Marcus lay on the cold, unforgiving floor, every nerve in his body screaming in protest. The metallic clang of the sealed doors above echoed in his ears. Emily's scream still reverberated in his mind.
He pushed himself up, the room spinning. The dim emergency lights cast long, distorted shadows. The countdown clock on the wall blinked ominously: 14:57… 14:56…
He had less than fifteen minutes.
Marcus scanned his surroundings. The room was massive — a sublevel he hadn't even known existed. Rows of servers hummed with power, and cables snaked across the floor like veins. At the far end, a control panel glowed faintly.
He stumbled toward it, his thoughts racing.
"You never could resist the chase," the Ghost's words echoed in his head.
"Focus," he whispered, his fingers dancing over the controls. If he could override the lockdown, he could escape — and find Emily.
But the screen flashed an error message: ACCESS DENIED.
"Damn it," he muttered.
A hiss of static filled the room.
"You really are persistent," the Ghost's voice slithered through the speakers.
"Where is she?" Marcus demanded.
"Safe — for now," the Ghost said. "But you… you're running out of time."
Marcus clenched his fists. "Why? Why go through all this?"
"Because the world isn't what you think it is," the Ghost said. "And when the truth comes out, it will burn everything down."
The countdown ticked lower: 12:34… 12:33…
Suddenly, a door hissed open.
Marcus spun, his gun ready.
A figure stepped through the shadows.
It was Harper.
"Thought you were dead," Marcus said, his voice cold.
"Not yet," Harper replied, his face pale and bruised. "But if we don't stop this, we all will be."
Marcus hesitated. "Why help me?"
"Because I finally see what's at stake," Harper said. "And it's bigger than both of us."
The ground trembled, another explosion rippling through the facility.
"We need to shut down the core," Harper said, moving to the panel. "It's the only way."
The clock hit 10:00.
"Lead the way," Marcus said.
They ran.
The corridors twisted and turned, the air growing hotter. The facility was tearing itself apart.
"This way!" Harper shouted.
They burst into the core chamber.
And the Ghost was waiting.
"Welcome," the Ghost said, his smile razor-sharp. "Right on time."
The room erupted into chaos.
Gunfire. Screams. Betrayal.
And the clock ticked ever closer to zero.
