"The simplest example is that even after Dumbledore died, he still didn't know the locket was a fake."
This alone is enough to prove that Dumbledore wasn't omniscient. He wasn't a god; he had his moments of oversight.
Moreover, Dumbledore had a fatal weakness—his sister.
It was precisely because of this weakness that Voldemort managed to trick Dumbledore into wearing the ring embedded with the Resurrection Stone, subjecting him to a horrific curse.
"However, if Dumbledore had discovered the locket was a fake during his lifetime, he might have actually felt more at ease."
It would have meant he wasn't alone in his quest to destroy Horcruxes.
"Of course, until I develop into a wizard on par with Dumbledore, Voldemort, or even Grindelwald, it's better to lay low and bide my time."
Dylan felt that as a first-year wizard, laying low didn't mean much. At most, it showed he was cautious.
After mastering the counter-curse to Fiendfyre, Dylan opened his system panel.
He had tried almost all the system functions except one—the Spell Refinement function under the wand icon.
Initially, Dylan didn't have any spells to refine.
And after acquiring the three Unforgivable Curses at max level, he didn't see the need for refinement.
But now, as he learned more spells, many of them could benefit from this function.
The reason Dylan hadn't used it before was simple:
"It's ridiculously expensive!"
---
**[Name]**: Dylan Hawkwood
**[Spells Eligible for Refinement]**: Levitation Charm, Transfiguration, Fiendfyre, Scouring Charm, Incendio, Lumos, Crucio, Imperio, Inferi Summoning, Parasitic Possession, Avada Kedavra, Tickling Charm
**[Refinement Cost]**: 10,000 Galleons per refinement
**[Note]**: When a spell reaches level 7, the refinement function is automatically unlocked. At levels 8, 9, and 10, you gain one additional refinement opportunity each.
---
Seeing the cost of refinement, Dylan couldn't help but sigh, even though it wasn't the first time he'd seen it.
10,000 Galleons for one refinement? Who could afford that?
This was far more expensive than any wand or robe customization!
A single spell could be refined four times from beginner to max level.
That's 40,000 Galleons!
If he wanted to refine ten spells, that would be 400,000 Galleons!
And the wizarding world has far more than ten spells.
If he wanted to refine a hundred spells, that would be 4 million Galleons!
Is this spell refinement?
This is practically robbing Gringotts!
The number is terrifying.
A cheap wand costs only 7 Galleons, so 4 million Galleons could buy 570,000 wands.
You could use a new wand every day for over 1,500 years without repeating.
Even if you used one wand and threw away ten every year, you'd never run out!
Additionally, based on Dylan's conversations with Professor McGonagall during private lessons, a butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks costs only 2 Galleons.
4 million Galleons could buy 2 million butterbeers!
You could drink until you turned into a giant and still not finish them all!
Fortunately, Dylan hasn't mastered a hundred spells yet, and only the spells listed on his panel are eligible for refinement.
At 10,000 Galleons per refinement, he could still afford to refine a few spells.
After all, in just half a school year, Dylan had managed to earn a considerable amount of pounds through his parents' help.
He then exchanged all of it for Galleons at Gringotts.
Perhaps because the goblins at Gringotts looked down on Muggles and never expected a Muggle-born wizard to deposit large sums of money, they didn't set any exchange limits for pounds or even rubles.
After several attempts, Dylan discovered that the goblins really hadn't imposed any restrictions on exchanging Muggle currency for Galleons.
Dylan still had a lot of pounds on hand, but he didn't dump them all into Gringotts at once.
He was afraid that if he exchanged a massive amount of Galleons in one go, the goblins might notice and patch this loophole.
So, whenever Dylan exchanged money, he did it in small, frequent amounts, and not just for Galleons. He also exchanged for Sickles and a few Knuts.
By exchanging for these smaller denominations, he could then convert them into Galleons without limits.
Every time the goblins saw him, they only exchanged a small amount of Galleons, and even some Sickles, for him.
As a result, even though he had already exchanged nearly 100,000 Galleons, they still looked down on him.
They thought he was just a poor kid who could only bring in a pitiful amount of pounds each time.
But their arrogance worked in Dylan's favor, filling his pockets with profit.
Dylan didn't mind this at all. In fact, he hoped the goblins would continue to underestimate him.
This way, he could keep exchanging for more Galleons until he had enough capital to pursue other plans.
But for now...
"Most of my spells are at levels 3 to 5 in proficiency. Even with a few max-level spells as a foundation, I've learned too many spells, and they're too varied."
Dylan's philosophy was that at this stage, he should learn as many spells as possible rather than focusing on refining just a few.
After all, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't easily max out every spell he learned.
So, instead of specializing in a few spells, he decided to dabble in as many as possible.
And because he had a few max-level spells as a foundation, his starting proficiency for other spells was much higher than others', making it easier for him to pick up new spells.
He often started at level 2, 3, or even 4 proficiency.
With this advantage, Dylan naturally wanted to learn as many spells as possible. He was greedy and never easily satisfied!
Steady progress was another one of Dylan's life principles.
"I have twelve spells eligible for their first refinement. Six of them are Dark spells, which can be refined four times each. The Tickling Charm is the same. Lumos, Incendio, and Scouring Charm are already at level 8, so they can be refined twice. Levitation Charm and Transfiguration are at level 7, so they can only be refined once."
Since this was his first time using the Spell Refinement function, Dylan had to carefully consider which spell to refine.
"For the first refinement, it's best to choose the most useful spell."
And which of his spells was the most useful?
Of course, it was...
Avada Kedavra!
After deciding on the spell to refine, Dylan glanced at his panel.
**[Money]**: 94,508 Galleons, 8,600 Sickles, 10,000 Knuts, 100,000 pounds
"10,000 Galleons for one refinement. I wonder if Sickles or even pounds can be used instead of Galleons?"
