Chapter 28 A Real Dream

The furnishings in the house were simple and tidy. After I got injured, Xie Yan had put away all the fragile items. Frowning tightly, I thought of the storage room.

I tiptoed to Xie Yan's room first to get the key. Then, the moment I twisted open the door of the utility room, I was stunned by the sight in front of me.

There was a door opened on the wall of the narrow utility room. The door was ajar, and inside was a huge space. The walls were white, the lights were white, and even the floor was white.

The lights inside were blinding. I looked at this suddenly-appeared space in confusion, feeling a sense of unease in my heart.

I walked in slowly. The moment I entered the space, I saw a black shadow flash past in front of my eyes, and finally freeze-framed in a corner of the room.

There was a row of huge iron boxes similar to refrigerators. The black shadow was crouching on the ground with its back to me, and its shoulders were trembling constantly. Under the black robe, I could clearly see two arms operating something.

The person who could be here must not be an outsider.

"Xie Yan?" I called out uncertainly.

The moment my voice came out, suddenly the black shadow stopped moving. I frowned and stood at the door in fear, not daring to go in. But after seeing his reaction, I became even more flustered.

"Xie Yan, is that you?" I tried to confirm his identity for the second time.

After I finished speaking, the black shadow suddenly stood up from the ground and flew towards me. I closed my eyes in horror. But when I opened my eyes again, I felt as if I had fallen into an ice cave, shivering with cold.

That person was Xie Yan.

But also not Xie Yan.

Xie Yan's face was pale. His originally black-and-white eyes were now filled with blood-red, and even his thin lips that usually wore a gentle smile were now bared in a snarl.

And in his blood-red lips, I saw a pair of sharp fangs like those of a wild beast.

"Ah!"

I let out a scream. This wasn't my Xie Yan. How could Xie Yan have turned into this look?

It couldn't be.

It must not be Xie Yan. I turned around and tried to run, but Xie Yan behind me suddenly flew over and grabbed my neck. I was forced to look at his face, feeling extremely terrified.

My whole body was shaking continuously, and my throat was being squeezed so hard by him that

I couldn't make a sound at all.

Looking down, I suddenly saw blood gushing out from Xie Yan's chest. There seemed to be a huge wound under his black robe. As Xie Yan held me tightly, I clearly saw a pitch-black knife inserted into his chest.

Was Xie Yan murdered?

"Xie Yan, it's Gu Mian." I was choked by Xie Yan's hand around my neck, and my voice was almost inaudible.

Xie Yan's pale face was cold and gloomy as he looked at me. When those eyes looked at me, it seemed as if he was looking at a delicious meal. I was so scared that I was about to die. I shook my head and tried to break free from Xie Yan's hand.

"Xie Yan, let me go."

I said with difficulty, and I desperately tried to pry Xie Yan's hand away with my hands.

The bright red blood soaked the white gauze, and the sweet smell of blood filled the air. Xie Yan's cold and gloomy face suddenly changed. His eyelids drooped slightly, and his empty gaze slowly moved down and fixed on my hand.

His blood-red eyes seemed to be filled with my blood. Under the blinding light, I saw that Xie Yan's eyes were so red that they glowed.

"Xie Yan..."

The air in my chest was almost exhausted, and my voice became weaker and weaker until my vision began to blur and I finally lost consciousness completely.

In my dream, it seemed that my home had been transported into a movie. Xie Yan once said that he had watched that movie many times, but I had never finished watching it even once. I was always too scared to continue watching.

But in the dream, I seemed to have seen the end of the story.

Dracula had found the lover he had been searching for for a thousand years. However, after hundreds of reincarnations, Dracula's lover was no longer the same person as a thousand years ago. In the dead of night, Dracula kept climbing through the window, expecting the look in his lover's eyes. But his lover had eventually become a stranger.

In front of the black floor-to-ceiling windows, I seemed to see Dracula calling out his lover's name outside the window. The candlelight in the room flickered, but no one ever answered.

Dracula turned around with a desolate look, and I was suddenly stunned.

Why was it Xie Yan's face?

I covered my mouth in surprise, unable to believe it. I didn't understand why Dracula in the movie had become Xie Yan. I shouted Xie Yan's name loudly, "Xie Yan."

Suddenly, I sat up abruptly. The cold sweat on my body had soaked my white dress.

"Mianmian?"

Xie Yan called my name. I turned to look and saw that Xie Yan seemed to be cooking in the kitchen.

Did I actually fall asleep on the sofa?

Was everything that just happened a dream?

The warm yellow light fell on Xie Yan's face. In the dream, his pale and gloomy face was now warm and beautiful. When he saw me wake up, he casually turned off the fire, took off his apron, and walked towards me.

"Don't fall asleep on the sofa next time." Xie Yan said in a deep voice.

He squatted down in front of me and picked up the blanket that had fallen on the ground. When he saw the cold sweat on my forehead, Xie Yan frowned, "What's wrong? Did you have another nightmare?"

I stared intently at Xie Yan's face. His sharply-defined face kept overlapping with that of the man in black, and in my moment of trance, it also overlapped with Dracula's.

Could it be that everything that just happened was really just a dream of mine?

For a moment, I couldn't tell the difference between reality and a dream.

My hand!

That's right. My injured hand had its wound torn open when I was struggling. Ignoring Xie Yan's inquiring gaze, I raised my hand and looked at my hand wrapped in white gauze.

"Mianmian, what on earth is wrong with you?" Xie Yan asked with concern.

Without looking up, I tore off the gauze on my hand. Xie Yan noticed my movement and grabbed my wrist. The gauze on my left hand had already opened a gap, and through the gap in the gauze, I could see that the scabbed wound was now slightly torn.

In the dream, my hand was bleeding profusely, not just slightly torn like this.

I raised my eyes and looked at the alarm clock on the wall. It was not yet twelve o'clock, which meant that only two or three hours had passed since Xu Xin left.

Even if I were exceptionally talented, my wound wouldn't heal instantly.

So it was a dream.

After confirming that it was a dream, my tense nerves relaxed a little.

"Mianmian?" Xie Yan spoke again.

I was stunned for a moment and vaguely remembered that Xie Yan was cooking. In order not to bring up that terrifying nightmare again, I subtly changed the subject, "Why did you come back so late?"

As I spoke, I glanced into the kitchen, "Haven't you eaten yet?"

"No." Xie Yan frowned, and his gaze swept over my hand. His ink-black eyes were filled with pity, "Why did you tear off the gauze?"

Because I wanted to see if it was really a dream just now.

I didn't want to tell the real reason. Facing Xie Yan, I could only say, "The wound was so itchy just now that I couldn't help but want to scratch it."
