Chapter 44 The Strange Police Officer

Countless possibilities flashed through my mind, and finally, I resolutely decided to call the police.

A few minutes later, the doorbell of my house rang. The two police officers were taken aback when they saw me.

"It's you again?" A younger police officer spoke up.

I raised my eyebrows in confusion. "Do we know each other?"

"I'm Chen Xiaodong. Last time you came to me and talked about the matter of Xu Qiang. Have you forgotten?" Chen Xiaodong said with great certainty.

Looking at Chen Xiaodong's affirmative expression, I was suddenly shocked. What on earth had been going on recently? Why was everyone talking about things related to me, yet I couldn't remember any of it at all.

Seeing that I didn't say anything, Chen Xiaodong scratched his head and muttered to himself suspiciously, "Did I remember it wrong?"

He turned his head and looked at his colleague. His colleague shook his head, indicating that he had never seen me before. Only then did Chen Xiaodong take out his ID and apologize to me. "Sorry, I probably remembered it wrong. There was a girl who looked a lot like you. I might have made a mistake."

Hearing what Chen Xiaodong said, I pressed on, "What was that girl's name?"

Although police officers meet a lot of people every day, they are professionals and don't mistake people easily. I waited nervously for the name that Chen Xiaodong would say.

Chen Xiaodong tilted his head and thought for a moment, then shook his head. "I can't remember."

Although it was the answer I had expected, I still felt a faint sense of disappointment in my heart. Next came the routine questioning and recording.

Just as the two police officers were about to leave, I stopped Chen Xiaodong.

"Can I have your contact information?" I was worried that Shen Yue and that person named Xu Qiang would show up again.

"Of course."

Chen Xiaodong said as he took out a business card from his pocket and handed it to me. "The phone number on this is my personal number. If you need anything, you can contact me at any time."

After thanking them, the two police officers left. I went back to my bedroom and stared blankly at Chen Xiaodong's business card.

Chen Xiaodong seemed to be in his thirties. He didn't look like an inexperienced rookie police officer. I recalled the surprise on Chen Xiaodong's face when he saw me and the tone of his voice, and I was almost certain that Chen Xiaodong had seen me before.

Moreover, we were not just people who had met once.

The next morning, I went out early. Last night, I had searched the Internet for all the information about the serial killer, including the crime scenes.

The taxi stopped at a place I was unfamiliar with. I casually walked into a store and

pretended to buy something while chatting with the store owner about a homicide that had occurred there.

The store owner told me, "That person specifically targets single women. I was there at the time. The woman's body was all dried up, as if all the blood in her body had been drained. It was really terrifying."

It was about blood again.

I had read the news report last night. Although it didn't mention the way my neighbor had died, I had also heard similar statements from her family members.

That meant that from the first case to the death of my neighbor last night, it was all the work of that person named Xu Qiang.

After paying, I left the store. I held the newly bought mobile phone in my hand and wanted to call Chen Xiaodong. My fingertips were touching the screen when suddenly a dark shadow loomed over me.

I looked up and saw it was Xie Yan.

"What a coincidence." Xie Yan said calmly.

It was really an incredible coincidence to meet Xie Yan here.

"Hello." I raised my hand to greet Xie Yan. When Xie Yan saw that I was dialing a number, he asked, "Are you meeting someone?"

"No."

I shook my head and put the phone away.

After all, this was my own business and I shouldn't involve Xie Yan. Moreover, Xie Yan had almost strangled Shen Yue to death yesterday.

I needed to tell Chen Xiaodong about my discovery now, but Xie Yan in front of me showed no sign of leaving. In desperation, I could only say to Xie Yan, "I still have something to do. Goodbye."

"Wait a moment."

Xie Yan stepped in front of me and raised his hand, placing it on the top of my head. I wanted to dodge, but by then he had already put his hand down.

"It's a leaf." Xie Yan said as he showed me the leaf in his palm.

I was taken aback and remembered that it probably had stuck to me while we were chatting. So I thanked Xie Yan. But when I was speaking, I noticed that Xie Yan's gaze wasn't on me but behind me.

I suddenly stopped talking and instinctively turned around to take a look.

Unexpectedly, Xie Yan suddenly pinched my chin with his hand. I opened my eyes wide in disbelief and looked at Xie Yan. He, however, smiled faintly and then rubbed his slightly cool fingertips across my cheek.

It was too intimate.

Especially when facing a handsome guy like Xie Yan, my ears turned red immediately, and my heart started beating faster.

"Don't look."

Xie Yan's fingers guided me to look at him. His deep eyes were as bright as jewels in the sunlight, and his sharply contoured face was both delicate and gentle.

My ears were buzzing, and my hands involuntarily clenched into fists.

Xie Yan let out a soft laugh. His fingertips slowly moved upward to cup my face. The cold touch on my skin made my brain jolt in surprise, and my mind became clear instantly.

"Why can't I look back?" What was behind me?

Why didn't Xie Yan want me to see?

I frowned and looked at Xie Yan in confusion. Xie Yan smiled and released my face. Just then, I suddenly heard bursts of screams coming from a distance.

It was a woman's voice.

When I distinguished it clearly, I was stunned for a moment.

That voice belonged to Shen Yue.

What had happened to Shen Yue?

Or had Xie Yan done something to Shen Yue?

I didn't dare to think and suddenly turned around, searching around with my eyes for the source of the sound. I found a man wearing a black robe flashing past the street corner. It seemed that he was even holding someone in his arms.

That man had kidnapped Shen Yue.

I struggled to figure out what was going on, but I was stopped by Xie Yan. Xie Yan stood in front of me, looking calm as if he hadn't seen what had happened at the street corner.

"What are you doing?" I asked Xie Yan.

Xie Yan glanced over my shoulder towards the street corner and then smiled, coaxing me in a soft tone, "Is this also something you want to meddle in? I just saw them talking, chatting quite casually."

He was talking about the man in the black robe and the missing Shen Yue.

By now, I finally realized something was wrong. It seemed that no matter where I went, I would either meet Shen Yue or Xie Yan.

There must be some kind of connection between them. Could it be that Xie Yan was also one of them?

What on earth did they want to do to me?

A sense of fear welled up in my heart. My fingertips rubbed against Chen Xiaodong's business card in my pocket. Since I wasn't sure of their relationship yet, I couldn't anger Xie Yan for the time being.

"All right." I shrugged and said indifferently, "You're right. What they're doing has nothing to do with me."

After saying that, I took a step back and moved away from Xie Yan. I was now going to head home.

I walked slowly towards the bus stop. I could hear faint footsteps not far behind me. I didn't even need to turn around to know that it was Xie Yan.

A few minutes later, the bus arrived. I got on without hesitation. But when I took my seat, I found that the man sitting in the seat beside me was none other than Xie Yan.
