Chapter 52 Why Should I Forgive?

The moment Xie Yan raised his hand while standing at the door, Xie Xiuyi's face suddenly changed. His delicate features twisted together as if he couldn't breathe. He widened his eyes and tried to turn his head to look at Xie Yan, but he couldn't move at all.

What was going on?

I didn't have time to think much. I rushed out of bed and walked to Xie Xiuyi's side. Seeing Xie Xiuyi's appearance, I thought he was having an attack. I hurriedly checked his symptoms.

His eyes were protruding, but there were no bloodshot eyes. I tried my best to recall the first aid methods I had seen in videos with my remaining rationality.

But as soon as my hand landed on Xie Xiuyi's neck, suddenly Xie Xiuyi's whole body relaxed and he fell back onto the chair.

"Xie Xiuyi?" I called out.

Xie Xiuyi closed his eyes, and his thick eyelashes were trembling. His originally light pink lips were now deathly pale.

"Xie Xiuyi."

I called out again, and then I heard Xie Yan's voice.

"This isn't a place for you. Mianmian, come with me," Xie Yan said as he extended his palm towards me.

I turned to look at Xie Yan and felt a sense of unfamiliarity.

Wasn't he my landlord?

Wasn't he my neighbor?

Why was it that yesterday we were making a cake together, and today Xie Yan had completely become someone I didn't know?

Perhaps, as Xie Xiuyi had said, there were still many things between Xie Yan and me, but I had just forgotten them?

I slowly straightened my back and walked towards Xie Yan.

I stood in front of Xie Yan and calmly looked at his handsome face, which was as good-looking as that of a male model. I saw a hint of relief flash across Xie Yan's face the moment I approached.

"Xie Yan, was it you who caused Xie Xiuyi's condition just now?"

They were on the same side.

From the attitudes of everyone towards Xie Xiuyi and Xie Yan since I entered this place, I clearly saw that they were familiar with each other.

He could even take action against his own people. I didn't know what else Xie Yan couldn't do.

After my cold voice, which even sounded strange to myself, fell, I saw the relief and softness on Xie Yan's face disappear instantly. Xie Yan raised his eyes and looked at me with some confusion.

His gaze passed over me and looked behind me.

"Mianmian, are you accusing me?" Xie Yan said in disbelief.

Xie Yan's questioning words made my heart feel even more sour. I swallowed the

grievance in my throat, took a deep breath to calm myself down, and nodded at Xie Yan.

At that moment, I saw the ink-colored pupils in Xie Yan's eyes suddenly shrink.

The next second, I felt a pain in my wrist, and my whole body left the ground uncontrollably. I didn't know when a hand had appeared on my waist, forcefully restraining me.

I looked up in a daze and immediately saw Xie Yan's cold and resolute side face.

What was Xie Yan trying to do?

"Let me go," I shouted and punched Xie Yan, but Xie Yan didn't seem to notice and strode towards the depths of the corridor.

In my panic, I seemed to hear what Xie Xiuyi was saying. He seemed to be calling my name. I couldn't care about anything else. I struggled desperately until I was pressed onto a chair by Xie Yan.

"Xie Yan, what are you doing?" I loudly questioned Xie Yan, but Xie Yan locked my hands to the back of the chair even more forcefully.

The cold sound of metal rang in my ears. I watched as the silver chains wrapped around my wrists, and despair instantly filled my mind.

Xie Yan locked me in a strange room. I twisted my body, but it was of no use at all. The chains on my wrists tightened more and more, and the sharp pain spread throughout my body.

I was in so much pain that tears welled up in my eyes, and my throat was too hoarse to speak.

"Xie Yan, please let me go. I know I shouldn't have said those words," I was extremely aggrieved. I had accused Xie Yan only because my parents had been kidnapped by Xie Xiuyi.

Those words weren't what I really meant.

I wanted to explain clearly. Choking back my sobs, I continued, "I know you didn't want to kill Xie Xiuyi, but I..."

When I said this, Xie Yan suddenly raised his eyes and looked at me. There was a look of confusion written all over his face.

At that moment, I suddenly realized that I couldn't tell the truth.

Xie Xiuyi was still outside. He had kidnapped my parents once, and he could do it a second time. Before Xie Xiuyi got what he wanted, I couldn't tell the truth.

Xie Yan just looked at me like that. There was an expectation hidden between his heroic eyebrows. I stared at Xie Yan's eyes without moving, and the next second, I slowly looked away.

As long as my parents were safe, I didn't care.

I suddenly let out a sigh and slumped back in the chair, lowering my eyes and stopping struggling.

A sudden coolness came from my chin. Xie Yan's fingers gently lifted my chin, and he asked, "Why did you stop talking? But you, but what about you?"

But I had no choice.

I had no choice for the sake of my parents.

I could only say these words in my heart. I was too guilty to look into Xie Yan's eyes and just said indifferently, "I just shouldn't have accused you of treating Xie Xiuyi like that. After all, I didn't actually see you take action."

I said each word clearly and indifferently.

The moment I finished speaking, Xie Yan's fingertips suddenly turned into a palm. He

squeezed my face hard, forcing me to look into his eyes, but I refused.

"Gu Mian, have you forgotten what kind of person Xie Xiuyi is? Have you also forgotten about Xu Qiang?"

I was stunned when I heard the name Xu Qiang. The police officer had also mentioned this name to me, but why couldn't I remember anything about this person?

Some images suddenly flashed through my mind, but I couldn't see them clearly no matter how hard I tried to grasp them.

"Whoosh!"

Xie Yan suddenly increased the strength in his hand. I was in so much pain that my eyes turned red, and tears fell uncontrollably. A teardrop landed on Xie Yan's fingertips with a soft sound, and he was stunned.

Xie Yan's palm stiffly released my chin. His brows were tightly furrowed, and his face was gloomy and troubled. When he retracted his palm, he suddenly lowered it again.

"Sorry."

Xie Yan said softly. As the words fell, his fingertips gently stroked my reddened chin.

Sorry?

I was shocked by Xie Yan's apology. I suddenly raised my head to look at Xie Yan. The moment my eyes met Xie Yan's face, I felt a pang of heartache.

He furrowed his brows, his eyes were dark and gloomy, and his originally indifferent lips were now tightly pursed, as if he had done something terribly wrong.

Actually, it was okay.

It was just that my wrist hurt a bit. I instinctively reached out my hand, wanting to wave it to tell Xie Yan that it was okay.

But as soon as my hand moved a little, I gasped in pain from the injury on my wrist.

It wasn't okay at all.

I turned my head away and didn't look at Xie Yan. I saw Xie Yan sit down beside me.

There was an inexplicable dullness in the air. The morning light was blocked by the thick curtains. I looked at the overlapping shadows of Xie Yan and me on the ground, feeling sour and wronged in my heart.

Actually, I was really okay.

I really wanted to tell Xie Yan, but my rationality wouldn't allow it.

Xie Yan had locked me to the chair with chains. No matter what the reason was, I couldn't forgive Xie Yan.

We just sat there quietly until someone knocked on the door again after a long time.
