Chapter 2- Rebirth

A knife.

Pointed at the tip and sharp enough to stab someone.

Ed never expected that the first thing he would see upon opening his eyes would be a knife.

The throbbing of his eyes and the fact that his body failed to respond was something he didn't care about at the moment.

He looked at the knife and then at the person holding it.

He was crying. Sobbing as if he was about to point the knife at himself rather than Ed.

'That Doctor...he definitely used some kind of magic on me...' Ed couldn't believe that he failed to dodge the old doctor on time. Based on his knowledge about the Doctor he shouldn't have moved like that.

However, his swift hand tore his Energy Core and killed Ed...but then, what was that magic? And why was Ed still alive.

"I can't move, so if you want to kill me, make it quick."

The man flinched upon hearing Ed's voice, the grip from the knife nearly slipping as he did so.

Ed narrowed his eyes; this man looked familiar...and this situation kind of reminded him of the incident written in the bland novel he read.

Ed looked around the place and found himself in a dark room, which had only a bed and a table on the left.

Ed spotted another person in the room. A woman.

She was crying as well, her eyes were trembling as she kept covering her mouth and her eyes never leaving Ed's face.

'So...they both have kidnapped me and are regretting it now?'

Ed looked down at himself and found that his body was bound by ropes...but what made him actually astonished, was how short he seemed. And more than that,

'My NeuroCore is absent...' A frown marred his face. Ed couldn't remember if he had lived a single day without his NeuroCore. However, even after commanding it to respond more than twice, Ed couldn't connect with the Core.

"We don't want to...harm you..." The man began, redirecting Ed's attention in his direction. His eyes were full of tears and the man looked quite pitiful as he said,

"...but to save our daughter...we need to kill you...young master, Carl."

Carl.

...that name.

"Agh!" A painful sensation assaulted Ed as he groaned in pain.

His head was throbbing violently, and the sudden movement caused the old man to drop the knife.

"Y-Young master ..."

Ed couldn't hear anything at the moment, as he felt thousands of needles piercing his head and overwhelming his mind.

Left with no space to think about what he could do to get rid of the pain, Ed fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

....where am I?

Ed's eyes opened at some strange place. He still couldn't move, but the headache was no longer there.

He moved his head around and found that he was no longer in the same room with the two people, nor was he back in the laboratory as he thought he would.

He still was in the strange person's body and currently standing in the middle of nowhere.

Everywhere he saw, it was dark.

"Hello?" He called out, but all he heard was his own voice echoing; no response.

*Click*

Hearing the clicking sound, he turned towards the source and found a screen—almost like a film reel—appearing in front of his eyes.

"A baby..." He saw. A baby is being hugged by a woman he has never seen before; however, looking at the film, he suddenly feels quite closeness to her.

"Your name would be Carlisle. My little Carl." A man appeared on the frame, lifting the baby and moving him around.

Carlisle...was the name of the person, he woke up as, huh?

'So am I watching the memories of the person? This is quite strange.' Regardless of the situation, he found it utterly nonsensical to panic.

As such, Ed decides to stand still and go through all the memories of the person who goes by the name Carlisle Ravenshade—the son of Lord Darkshade.

By the time Carlisle turned three years old, Ed knew that it wasn't like he was feeling the familiarity with the name and the face for nothing.

This, indeed, was the world of the novel, which the Doctor wrote.

'If I had known something like this could happen, I would have focused more on the details.' Well, he remembers almost seventy percent of the story, so there was not much of a problem.

The memory of Carl going through his childhood phase, being doted on by his family members a little too much, made him quite the problem child.

Someone with a foul mouth who can say something pretty rude to make an adult awkward.

The one who doesn't hesitate to speak his mind and often hurts others because of his unrestrained behavior.

A rich spoilt brat who looks down upon others and only cares about his selfish desires.

'If I remember correctly, because of this attitude, Carl dies in the story.' Carlisle wasn't a significant part of the story, but his family was.

'If I really had to become someone, I wish I could have been a little more insignificant to the story though...' Being not important to the world would have allowed him to weave his own thread of fate. However, now, it all depends on where in the timeline he stands, and based on that, Carlisle's fate might have already been decided.

'No, wait...those two elderly people...' Ed suddenly had the realization that he still might have time to save himself from needless drama.

Time to change Carlisle's fate.
