Chapter 18- Strength

[A week later]

An uproar rang up once the news of the ambush went out.

Every news channel was covering the incident of how a few assailants attacked the church that comes under the Ravenshade's jurisdiction.

Until now, whoever tried to trifle with the people under Ravenshade's command has never remained alive to sing their tales of achievement.

[As we all can see the church members are quite displeased about the security and the response from the Ravenshade family. They claim that something precious was stolen from the house of worship. They have been cursing the sinners without a break and seemed to have even made a complaint to the government.]

Hearing the news reporter, Carlisle wanted to scoff.

Naturally, they would be pissed since their dear resource was snatched away from them and the pitiful them cannot say that in front of others. After all, the fact that churches transfer vitality from one person to another is still a secret that only a few know.

Currently, Eve was kept at a place where no one could get their hands on her. It is a close friend of his elder brother who has arranged medical facilities for the young elf.

Other than her dried magical core and her weak state because of malnourishment, she was fine.

Naturally, they couldn't bring her here, and Shelly was also only allowed to meet her once a week, so no one suspects them.

Carlisle believed that if he requested his father, he would keep the girl safe, but he did not want to retort to that yet. It's better to keep her hidden until he could.

'So now, what should I do?' It would take some time for Shelly to prepare herself, so she can dive into the Lost Forest and bring him the book of spirituality.

The main character must still be living his life leisurely and using a fake identity to hunt monsters now and then.

He still hasn't realized that he is a dragon-born. The fact he possesses more mana than any other human being was something he considered as a result of his good karma.

'If I remember correctly, then at some point this year, a catastrophic attack by a rogue dragon would kill thousands of Ravenshade soldiers…' The only reason the Ravenshade family weakened and everyone got a chance to torment the bratty heir of the family was because of the attack.

Ravenshade would lose their title as invincible, and during that attack, the government and three clans would betray Ravenshade. Not only that, the Patriarch of the Ravenshade would be paralyzed for life and would exhaust his life essence to the bottom of the pit.

It was mentioned several times in the book since the one who kills the dragon in the future would be the protagonist.

To build the hype of how strong the enemy is, the Professor destroyed the strongest clan in existence—a laugh of mockery escaped his throat.

*KNOCK*

"Can I come in, young master?"

It was a familiar voice, so he didn't think before allowing her.

The blond elf stepped inside, wearing a green skirt and white shirt. She was holding a tray on which a glass of orange juice rested.

"I have told you to utilize your time in training rather than these useless duties."

The elf politely told him, "I have finished all three of my classes."

Carlisle was surprised upon hearing that, as he asked, "Then why are you not resting but serving me?"

"Because …I want to." Bold coming from a girl who majorly talks politely in front of others.

He has noticed that ever since he saved her sister, Shelly's affection, respect, and devotion has sky-rocketed. Well, the result was expected but he couldn't say it was welcomed.

Taking the cup, he told her, "You need to give proper rest to your body, or you won't recover for the next session."

"I understand." The smile on her face clearly said that she didn't.

Carlisle stopped trying as he slowly drank the juice and sat down on the chair.

His height had grown by an inch and he was now 5'6. Due to rigorous training, fortunately, his muscles have started to take shape. And his change of diet—increasing protein and focusing more on balanced carbs and fats—has helped him build the shape he desired.

"So, are you going to meet her today?" Carlisle asked after he took a few sips.

Shelly nodded, "I was informed that she has recovered and has gained consciousness." There was a delicate smile on her face, a subtle reflection of her royal bloodline.

Carlisle hummed and drank the rest of the content.

Shelly directed an upturned glance at her Lord, before she asked, "Young master…c-can you accompany me today?"

Carlisle was surprised, "This is your reunion, right? Don't you want to be alone with your sister?"

Shelly released a soft breath, as she said, "Whenever I felt sad or hurt, she held back her tears so I could cry as much as I wanted. But today, I need to be the brave one.." Looking at him shyly, she added, "…and my strength is you, young master. So…please, can you come with me?"

Carlisle felt a fuzzy feeling inside…something he couldn't define.

This was not the first time someone showed dependence on him. Being a commander, his cadets rushed to the battlefield with the confidence that if something happened, their Commander would finish the job.

Then why…when the little girl showed such confidence in him, he felt…

"Okay, I will come." Not giving much thought to such a fleeting thought, Carlisle told her, "When are you leaving?' Ignoring her infectious smile, he asked.

"I was told to be at the back gate of the mansion sharp at eleven."

Carlisle hummed, "Okay, I will be there." As he said, he got down from the chair before handing the cup to her.

Leading her to the door, he opened the door for her, when unexpectedly,

*Chu*

A kiss was planted on his cheek, before he heard her whisper, "Thank you, young master." Saying so, she dashed away, as fast as she could.

Carlisle sighed and closed the door.
