The shot rang with deadly precision.
Evryn barely had time to react, the sound of Quinn's blaster echoing through the shipyard. His instincts screamed at him to move before the blaster bolt could hit him, but Cyrus acted in the nick of time, tackling Evryn to the ground.
The bolt grazed the upper back of Cyrus.
"Dammit… should've dodged that. Stay on your toes, kid."
"Im sorry.."
Helaine gritted her teeth visibly pissed off but concerned. "For fuck's sake.."
"No! Are you two okay?" Razek yelled with his eyes still locked onto Quinn.
Quinn's voice cut through the tension, calm and cold. "You really thought you could just walk in here and walk out, didn't you?"
He stepped back, motioning for his reinforcements to advance. They moved with precision, surrounding the group in an instant, their weapons raised, ready for anything. The sound of boots echoed through the shipyard as the reinforcements closed in.
The tension was thick as the police closed in, their weapons aimed at the group.
Razek stood in the open, facing down the officers, his usual smirk gone. His fist was raised, mirroring the spectral woman behind him, both ready to fight to the end.
Helaine's eyes scanned the area from her perch atop the nearby ship, searching for a way out of the situation.
Evryn was still on the ground, Cyrus still on top of him.
Quinn exhaled, shaking his head with a smirk. "You never had a chance." He turned slightly, giving a nod to the officers. "Do it."
The moment hung in the air for a second—just before the police were about to open fire.
BOOM!
Cyrus had shot a nearby cluster of Aether cell canisters, catching the officers off guard and killing others in the explosion.
"Damn it!" Quinn shouted.
Evryn, shocked by everything happening, looked at Cyrus—only to see that he had fired his blaster through his coat.
The explosion sent shockwaves through the shipyard, fire and smoke swallowing the officers caught in its radius. The moment of chaos was all Razek needed.
"No point standing around!" he shouted, already moving.
He launched himself forward, dashing straight into the fight with reckless abandon. His spectral companion mirrored his movements, its ethereal fist ready to strike.
From above, Helaine wasted no time. She jumped down from her perch, her spider-like Aether limbs propelling her toward the nearest officer. She landed hard, driving one of her spider-like legs straight into his chest, killing him instantly.
Cyrus gritted his teeth, pushing himself up off the ground. "On your feet, kid," he muttered, yanking Evryn up with him. "We're not out of the blue yet."
Evryn's heart pounded. His mind raced to catch up with the battle erupting around him.
Quinn, still reeling from the explosion, narrowed his eyes. "I'm going to kill every last one of them."
The air around them was thick with the acrid scent of smoke, the sound of blaster fire, and the screams of officers as they fell. Razek moved like a storm-reckless and unstoppable. His spectral companion mirrored his every move, fists smashing through bodies crashing to the ground. The chaos fueled him, a twisted grin stretched across his face as another officer crumpled under his punch.
"Is that all you've got?" Razek taunted, his voice laced with manic amusement.
He danced through the battlefield, dodging blaster shots with ease, his movements a blur. Each officer that fell fed his adrenaline, each one a reminder of his dominance in this chaos.
Helaine was the complete opposite-calm, precise, deadly. Her eyes never wavered from her target, calculating each step before she took it. one of her spider-like Aether limbs shot forward, impaling an officer in the chest. The sickening crunch of bone was drowned out by the chaos, but Helaine didn't flinch. There was no time for hesitation.
Her mind was sharp, focused solely on the task at hand. She didn't feel the satisfaction Razek did in every kill. Her heart didn't race with excitement. All that mattered was getting out alive. She scanned the area for threats-every movement deliberate, every decision tactical.
Cyrus's upper back screamed at him with every movement, the pain from his injury gnawing at him like an open wound. Blood stained on the back of his coat, but he didn't have the luxury of time to worry about it. He gritted his teeth and fired, the blaster shot landing squarely in the chest of another officer, sending him collapsing to the ground in a heap.
"Stay focused, kid," he muttered under his breath, his voice tight with the strain of fighting through the pain. His back burned where the Quinn blaster had grazed him, but the sharp sting kept his mind sharp. He couldn't afford to falter-not now. Not when they were so close to getting out of here.
With every shot, every kill, his resolve grew stronger. His body might be slowing, but his mind was still razor-sharp. "We need to get to the ships," he muttered, glancing over at Evryn. His gaze was fierce, his voice a commanding growl. "Now."
He staggered forward, taking cover behind a pile of scrap metal.
Evryn watched him from a distance, his heart hammering in his chest. Cryrus… The old man bearing through the pain after being grazed by the blaster shot, but there was no sign of him slowing down. If he can keep going so can I!
Evryn's thoughts were a storm, adrenaline crashing through his veins as he ran, his legs burning with the effort. The danger was real--every shot fired was a reminder of how close they were to death. But it wasn't just the fear. It was the fire in his chest, the uncertainty gnawing at him as he found himself more and more in the thick of this chaos. We're not out of this yet, he told himself. Not until we're gone from this damn planet.
Cyrus's eyes darted around the shipyard, scanning the rows of ships. Some were too damaged, others too far gone. But then he saw it--the perfect candidate. It was an older model, a little battered, but still spaceworthy. If they could just make it to the controls.
"This one should do it." Cyrus muttered under his breath. His pulse quickened as he sprinted toward the ship, his hand already moving to the control panel. The faintest tremor ran through his fingers as he typed in the commands, the ship's systems flickering in response.
"Come on, damn it!" His eyes wide with urgency. But the ship refused to cooperate, it's system blinking and sputtering. Every second felt like an eternity.
"Come on work damn it!" He slammed his fist onto the control panel, a few sparks flew, but the panel came to life. Opening the door to the ship. The ship wasn't perfect, but it could definitely fly.
Cyrus yelled out to them, "Come on, get in this ship and get the fuck out of here!" He headed into the ship, making his way to the cockpit.
Razek, knocking an officer out with his spectral companion still mimicking his moves, ran, following suit to where Evryn and Cyrus were.
Razek ran past Evryn. Then, Evryn saw it—a police officer with an XPG, aiming right at the area where he and Razek were.
"Razek, they have an XPG—!"
Before Evryn could finish his sentence, the rocket fired, hitting the ground near where Evryn was standing.
The rocket's blast detonated with a deafening roar. Evryn barely had time to brace himself before the shockwave hit, throwing him backward like a ragdoll. His body slammed into the rough concrete floor with brutal force, the impact knocking the air from his lungs.
The world spun as his vision blurred, a haze of smoke and debris filling the air around him. His ears rang, the sound of the explosion still echoing in his skull, drowning out everything else. He gasped for breath, but each inhale felt like fire in his chest, the sharp pain from the impact still radiating through his body. His stomach churned violently, nausea clawing at his throat as the ground beneath him seemed to tilt and sway.
His limbs felt heavy, as though they were made of lead. He tried to push himself up, but the dizziness made it impossible. His hands scraped uselessly against the concrete, struggling to find purchase as his head swam. The overwhelming nausea threatened to send him spiraling into unconsciousness, but he fought it, blinking rapidly to clear his vision.
His heart pounded in his chest, the sound deafening in his own ears as his body fought to stay conscious. "Damn it…" he muttered under his breath, a bitter taste of metal on his tongue. He finally managed to sit up, his head still spinning. He could barely focus as his vision wavered, everything around him a blur of motion.
"Evryn!" Razek called out to him, but the sound felt distant, almost like an echo.
"I hear you!" Evryn slapped his head, trying to pull his senses together before standing up.
It took everything in him to stay on his feet, but the nausea and dizziness were overwhelming. He had to keep moving. He couldn't afford to be out of commission now.
His ears were starting to clear.
As he pulled himself together, he heard Razek cry out, 'Helaine, no!' Evryn looked forward, his eyes shrinking.
Helaine was injured, having been hit and thrown to the ground by Quinn.
Quinn stepped on her wound, laughing. "This is where you meet your demise." A victorious smile spread across his face.
For some reason, Evryn couldn't move. His body was frozen in fear, something lingering in the back of his mind. A feeling? No, it was something from his past, something that shook him as a child—a fear he hadn't felt in years.
The air around him felt cold-absolute fear. His body trembled, his breathing shallow and unsteady. His mind was screaming at him to move, but when he looked down at his hands, they were small.
He was a kid again.
A sharp cry cut through the air.
"No! Stop it, please"
His mother's voice.
Evryn's chest tightened as he looked forward. His mother was on the ground, curled up, her arms desperately shielding herself as his father loomed over her, fists clenched. Another blow landed, and she cried out in pain.
Evryn stood frozen. His legs refused to move, his tiny hands trembling at his sides. His heart pounded so hard it hurt.
No, no, no, no…The words crashed through his mind like waves, suffocating him.
Not again…
A single tear slipped down his cheek. His vision blurred, but the scene before him remained burned into his mind.
Helpless. Just like back then.
His fist tightening, what feels as all his emotions are boiling over.
Like he's going to explode.
He felt a presence behind him—a woman's touch slow and deliberate, tracing down his side. A wet sensation tongue gliding up his neck. Then, a warm breath at his ear.
A voice, soft and velvety, whispered into his ear.
"Let it out, my Savior."
Evryn's breathing became heavy as purple electric zaps crackled from his fist. His eyes, once brown, shifted and swirled into a deep galaxy purple, cosmic energy sparking within them.
For a moment, everything seemed to slow. A torrent of raw power surged through him, but then—snap. His mind cleared, and in the blink of an eye, he shot forward, a blur of motion, charging at Quinn with a speed that seemed impossible.
Quinn's eyes widened, but before he could even react, Evryn drove a punch into his side, purple sparks crackling upon impact. The force completely shattered Quinn's ribs, sending him hurtling into the fire.
The purple galaxy glow in Evryn's eyes slowly faded, returning to their original state.
He looked down at his fist, unable to believe what had just happened, before suddenly coughing up blood, a trickle running down his nose.
Helaine stared at him in complete shock, struggling to process what she had just witnessed.
Evryn felt weak, but the building was collapsing, and it seemed all the police had evacuated the building. He had no time to waste.
Wiping the blood from his nose off, he reached his hand out to Helaine. "Come on!"
Still in astonishment, Helaine grabbed his hand. She muttered, "Okay," softly, a small smile forming on her face.
He put Helaines arm over his shoulder before heading to the ship.
