Chapter 3: The Scream

...After the villa's mistress left, the group returned to the main hall. Following brief self-introductions, they began discussing how to care for the elderly woman.

"Um... How did everyone end up on that bus? I... I was on a high-speed train, playing on my phone until I got sleepy. I took a nap and... woke up on the bus.""Same here. I was working overtime at the office when I suddenly felt exhausted..."

As the group compared notes, they discovered everyone had arrived on the bus in the exact same way. This eerie revelation amplified their already simmering dread."Damn... This is some real evil shit..." grumbled Liu Chengfeng, the man with the thick beard.

After a moment of silence, Yan Youping whispered again:"Do you think... maybe this is some reality show recruiting us through this method? Like those TV shows I've seen—"Before she could finish, Liu Chengfeng cut her off with a sneer:"Already forgot about that fat guy? Since when do TV shows skin people alive?"

Yan Youping shuddered but insisted:"What if... what if that was just a prop?""Prop blood?""Could've been chicken or pig blood—"

As Yan Youping clung to denial, Ning Qiushui's abrupt interjection shattered her last shred of hope:"It wasn't animal blood."The group turned to him. Calm and composed, he seemed to have accepted their grim reality."I used to be a veterinarian. I'm sensitive to smells. Animal blood—whether from cats, dogs, sheep, or chickens—has distinct odors. Human blood reeks of iron rust. I can confirm: the blood on that traffic light was 100% human... and freshly spilled."

Yan Youping hugged her knees, trembling as quiet sobs escaped her:"Stop... please..."Ning Qiushui softened his tone. He couldn't blame her—any normal person would be traumatized by what they'd witnessed. Only those accustomed to corpses might fare better. The scene was just too gruesome.

"Let's focus on surviving these five days," said Xue Guize, a plain-looking man with shadowed eyes. "There are seven of us. How should we split caregiving duties?"

When no one else spoke, Ning Qiushui suggested:"The three women handle cooking and laundry. The four men will care for the elderly woman."Wang Yuning, the gold-earringed beauty, immediately scoffed:"Oh, so women are just supposed to cook and do laundry for you men, huh? How convenient—you get to laze around 'caring' for some bedridden fossil!"

Liu Chengfeng shot back:"Something stinks here... Shame such a pretty face spews sewage.""You calling me shit?!" Wang Yuning snarled.

Ning Qiushui intervened:"If you prefer caregiving, take my shift—9 AM to 10 PM. The rest can handle chores after dark."Wang Yuning sneered, "Thanks ever so much," her voice dripping sarcasm. "Since it's past five o'clock, why aren't you cooking, Mr. Volunteer?"

As tensions simmered, the group split up—some to the kitchen, others upstairs. In the kitchen, Liu Chengfeng's culinary skills surprised Ning Qiushui. The burly man chopped and stir-fried like a seasoned chef.

Between mouthfuls of rice, Liu Chengfeng called upstairs: "Food's ready!" He devoured his meal without waiting.Yan Youping hesitated: "Shouldn't we wait for them?""Wait? Eat!" he garbled through stuffed cheeks.

When Wang Yuning descended, she mocked Liu Chengfeng's gluttony but froze mid-sentence. The villa had plunged into unnatural darkness."Lights!" Ning Qiushui flipped the switch. Outside, night had swallowed the sky—far too early for 7 PM.

Xue Guize snapped at panicked exclamations: "The mistress warned about early sunsets in rainy season. Calm down!"

Liu Chengfeng taunted Wang Yuning as she took a meal upstairs: "Hope you don't starve the old lady like you starve your manners."Her stiletto heels clicked angrily toward the shadowed staircase.

Later, as the group discussed strange bathroom arrangements in their rooms—each with private showers despite the villa's small family—a bloodcurdling scream tore through the villa.

"AAAAHHHH!!!"
