Chapter 6

Lavender hooked her arm through Dashiell's, speaking in a coquettish tone, "Faye really has high standards... Oh? Is this a gift for her sweetheart?"

She picked up the gift box from the coffee table, weighing it in her hand before casually opening it. "It's so light! If you ask me, one would usually prepare something more valuable, like jewelry or a cloth..."

Before she could finish speaking, Dashiell abruptly pushed her away and snatched the gift box, his face turning deathly pale.

It was then that he realized what was inside wasn't a gift at all.

It was divorce papers!

The A4 papers suddenly dropped to the ground, scattering everywhere.

Their names, date of marriage, and reasons for divorce were meticulously detailed on the documents.

Custody arrangements for the children and division of assets were clearly outlined.

Every minute detail was precisely laid out.

Dashiell's gaze fell on the section stating the reasons for divorce. Faye's neat handwriting seemed like a knife, cruelly stabbing into his heart.

[Infidelity, deception, betrayal.]

Dashiell's face turned ashen, and it took him a while to find his voice again.

"How is this possible?"

"No, she couldn't have found out..."

Even as he said this, Dashiell knew deep down that these words were nothing but self-deception. He dared not dwell on it.

The child's sudden cry snapped Dashiell back to reality.

His furrowed brow instantly relaxed.

Of course, even if Faye knew something, she wouldn't abandon the child.

This baby had nearly cost her half her life to bring into the world.

How could someone who loved children so much bear to file for divorce and give up this child?

But for some reason...

Dashiell recalled Faye's cold attitude towards the baby since its birth, and an inexplicable unease grew in his heart.

Mrs. Huntington picked up the divorce papers from the floor, her words dripping with disdain.

"Fine, if she wants a divorce, let her have it! But this child - she can forget about taking him!"

"Auntie, she can't take this child anyway!"

Lavender, already beaming with joy, chimed in eagerly.

"This baby is mine and Dashiell's! Faye has no connection to him whatsoever."

As she spoke, she cradled the child and nestled into Dashiell's embrace.

With a blissful expression, she said, "Besides, I don't plan on leaving this time. I've been drifting around for long enough. I want to settle down now." "Faye is willing to let us be together, it's like heaven is smiling upon us..."

"No!"

Dashiell dodged away, instinctively refusing.

"But I can't divorce Faye!"

Lavender looked at him in disbelief, wanting to continue speaking.

But he couldn't hear anything at that moment.

He didn't know why his emotions were out of control.

He had been hoping for this for so many years, but now, he didn't seem as happy as he thought he would be.

Just thinking about Faye no longer having any connection to his life made him feel an inexplicable emotion that almost suffocated him.

He frantically picked up the agreement and tore it to shreds.

That's it.

Faye loves him so much, she must be doing this out of jealousy.

He needs to go explain everything to her!

Dashiell got up and left.

On the way, he floored the gas pedal, running who knows how many red lights.

A journey that usually took over forty minutes, he forcibly completed in just twenty.

"Faye! I'm back!"

There was no response as he had expected.

The stone in Dashiell's heart sank once again.

He trembled as he opened every room, but couldn't find any trace of Faye.
