Chapter 2: Garry

Chapter 2: Garry

Sam sat on his bed, sorting through his belongings. He had read plenty of apocalypse novels, so he knew that the most important thing for survival right now was food.

After taking inventory, he realized he had:

3 bottles of water2 chocolate bars3 packs of chips5 servings of instant noodles

"This isn't good... I need to find more supplies."

THUMP! THUMP!

Loud banging sounds echoed from outside.

The noises from his earlier fight had attracted more zombies, and now they were slamming against his door.

Taking a deep breath, Sam pulled out the silver chain he had obtained from the green orb. He had no idea what it did, so after a brief glance, he put it away and grabbed his folding chair instead.

Carefully, he shifted the table just enough so that only one zombie could enter at a time. Then, he unlocked the door and took his position.

As soon as the first zombie staggered inside, Sam swung the chair straight at its head. He kept striking, landing blow after blow.

By the third strike, the second zombie had already pushed its way inside.

Sam quickly switched targets, alternating his attacks between the two. He kept his distance, continuously slamming the chair downward, ensuring neither of them got too close.

The battle lasted for half a minute before:

DING! Killed Level 2 ZombieDING! Killed Level 1 Zombie

Hearing the notifications, Sam exhaled sharply and tossed aside the now-broken chair. He shut the door and pushed the table back to block it.

"Haaah... haaah..." he gasped for breath before taking a long gulp of water.

On the floor, another orb had appeared—but this time, it was black.

Curious, Sam picked it up and crushed it.

The orb dissolved into particles, and in its place, a black hammer materialized. One side was flat, while the other had a sharp, pointed edge.

Sam grinned. This is exactly what I needed.

His fight with the zombies had taught him a valuable lesson—the folding chair was too bulky, and it lacked a focused point of impact.

THUMP! THUMP!

The earlier commotion had attracted even more zombies.

In the room next to Sam's, a boy was listening intently.

He sat in silence, his door barricaded with a table, his window covered by thick curtains to prevent anything from seeing inside.

"Sounds like Sam just fought off some zombies..."

This boy's name was Garry.

What Sam didn't know was that Garry had always admired Emmy. In fact, it was Garry who had tipped off Roy about Sam's friendship with her.

His plan had been simple—if Roy bullied Sam enough, Sam would start avoiding Emmy. Then, Garry could swoop in and tell her about Sam's "cowardice", without revealing the real reason behind it.

But now, that plan no longer mattered.

Like Sam, Garry had also received a white card.

15 Minutes Before Sam Woke Up

Garry had been in his room, watching Futa porn when, suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his chest.

The pain lasted only a second, but it was excruciating.

He gasped for air and decided to open his window for fresh air—only to see something shocking.

All across the campus, students were clutching their chests in pain.

Then—

DING! Mana Integration CompleteDING! Initial Reward Received

A white card materialized in his hand.

Garry was stunned.

But then, he noticed—everyone had a card.

Before anyone could process what was happening, some students suddenly started attacking others.

Seeing the chaos unfold, Garry instinctively clenched his card, and in an instant—it transformed into a heavy bow.

His mind raced. He didn't understand what was happening, but one thing was clear—if he wanted to survive, he needed to adapt.

Quickly, he closed his window, shut the curtains, and examined his new weapon.

'Long Bow (EPIC Rank): ?,?,Can fire mana shots.'

Garry squinted. That's it? No instructions? No user manual?

But before he could experiment with the bow, he heard loud banging from the hallway.

Sam's Discovery

Meanwhile, in the next room, Sam was admiring his new hammer.

As he focused on it, information appeared in his mind:

'Hammer.'

That was it.

Sam blinked. That's all?

He then pulled out the silver chain he had received earlier and concentrated on it.

'Storage Chain (RARE): ? ,+ Mana Manipulation'

Sam's eyes widened.

"Storage"? Did I just hit the jackpot?!

If this was what he thought it was...

Excited, Sam quickly put on the chain and tried something he had read about in novels.

He grabbed the hammer and imagined storing it.

At first, nothing happened.

But then—he felt something shift inside his body. It was an odd sensation, like an itch that wasn't quite an itch.

THUMP! THUMP!

The door rattled again, but Sam ignored it.

He focused entirely on the new tingling sensation inside him.

After multiple failed attempts, he finally succeeded on the 12th try.

He repeated the process 30 more times until he was completely exhausted.

Finally, he collapsed onto his bed, keeping a watchful eye on the suitcase blocking his window.

Another Battle

For 30 minutes straight, zombies continued banging on his door.

Eventually, the door latch broke, but the table still held firm.

Sam gritted his teeth. He had no choice—he had to fight again.

Taking the same position as before, he gripped his hammer tightly.

The first zombie peeked through the gap in the door.

Sam swung the hammer downward, using the pointed edge

CRACK!

Blood splattered as the zombie's skull cracked open.

DING! Killed Level 3 Zombie

Sam had no time to celebrate. He yanked his hammer free with some difficulty, then swung at another zombie, this time using the blunt side.

The battle continued.

DING! Killed Level 2 ZombieDING! Killed Level 2 ZombieDING! Leveling UpDING! Killed Level 1 ZombieDING! Killed Level 2 ZombieDING! Killed Level 3 Zombie

Sam stood among the corpses, breathing heavily.

The world had changed, and he was changing with it.
