Chapter 13 Brother-in-law

"Brother-in-law?"

Jack was taken aback for a moment, and then he quickly realized that the man standing in front of him was Lucy's husband.

Jack quickly extended his hand and said with a smile, "Hello, brother-in-law."

Lucy's husband was named David. He reached out and shook Jack's hand, saying cheerfully, "You've had a hard journey."

"It wasn't hard at all. With Sister Lucy accompanying me on the way, it wasn't tiring in the least."

David was taken aback for a moment, and then he burst into laughter.

Just this simple address of "Sister Lucy" made the relationship between Jack and Lucy go beyond that of ordinary colleagues.

The three of them entered the private room. Jack saw that it was a room that could accommodate more than ten people for a meal. He thought that there would be other people coming, but David said, "Sit wherever you like. It's just the three of us."

Jack looked at this elegantly decorated private room and thought that it was quite a grand setting for just three people to have a meal.

Lucy seemed to be used to such a scene. She casually sat in the main seat and also invited Jack to sit next to her.

Jack declined for a while, but in the end, he was firmly pulled by David to the seat between him and Lucy.

With Lucy on his left and David on his right, Jack immediately understood that this meal today must have something to do with him.

As soon as the three of them sat down, two waitresses, who were elegantly dressed and had good looks and temperament, came in carrying dishes.

Jack looked at these two waitresses and thought that for just three people having a meal, having two waitresses was really showing off.

The dishes were indeed very good. Soon, Jack's table was filled with high-end dishes such as abalone, sea cucumber, and shark fin.

There were a few dishes that Jack didn't recognize. Fortunately, the two pretty waitresses would kindly announce the name of each dish as they placed it on the table.

At this time, David said, "Let me tell you a joke. Once, I went to the south with several bosses. When we were having a meal, a dish was served. But the waitress announced the names of all the other dishes except this one. Do you know why?"

Jack probably knew what the joke was going to be, but at this moment, he definitely couldn't show that he knew. So, he shook his head and said, "Brother-in-law, why was that?"

It was estimated that Lucy really didn't know, so she said, "You're the one telling the story. Why are you asking us?"

David smiled and said, "One of the bosses saw that the waitress didn't announce the name of the dish and asked her what it was. The waitress just smiled and refused to say. Then the boss got anxious and insisted that she tell him, and he even said that he wouldn't pay the bill if she didn't say the name of the dish."

Lucy asked, "Did the waitress say it?"

Seeing that the dishes were almost all served, David said, "Let's eat first. I'll tell you later."

Jack laughed when he heard this, while Lucy frowned and looked at her husband, acting coquettishly and saying, "Look at you. You've aroused my curiosity, and now you won't tell me."

Both David and Jack laughed, and the two waitresses also showed faint smiles.

"Tell it quickly. Look, these two girls are also waiting."

As she spoke, Lucy pointed at the two waitresses.

David smiled and said, "I think you're the one who wants to hear it, right?"

After saying that, David waved his hand and said, "Pour the wine."

When Jack heard that they were going to pour the wine, he quickly said, "I'm driving."

David took the wine glass in front of Jack and said boldly, "It's okay. It's all right to have a little."

Somehow, Jack blurted out, "Don't drink and drive. Don't drive after drinking."

Both David and Lucy were taken aback for a moment, and then they laughed.

After the laughter, David said, "Okay, don't drink and drive. Don't drive after drinking. Then we won't drive today."

As soon as Jack heard this and was about to speak, Lucy said preemptively, "We'll go back tomorrow."

Jack was stunned and seemed not to understand what she meant. But Lucy picked up her handbag from the adjacent seat and took out a mobile phone from it.

Jack took a look. It was a Motorola digital phone, which was much better than the two analog phones in the bank.

It was really unexpected that this woman who usually didn't like to joke around actually had such financial strength!

Digital phones had already come out. Although they were expensive, what was really troublesome was the high phone bill. For GoTone, the fixed monthly rental fee was sixty dollars, and it cost fifty cents per minute for both making and receiving calls.

It wouldn't be a big deal to impulsively buy a mobile phone, but having to pay sixty dollars every month whether you made calls or not didn't quite match the consumption concept of many people.

Di-di-di-di—

After pressing a few buttons, Lucy put the phone to her face. After a while, the call was connected. Just as Lucy was about to speak, David suddenly motioned for her to give him the phone.

Lucy didn't ask any more questions and handed the phone to David across Jack—

"Is that President Gao? It's me, David—"

After a few words of greeting, David said that he wanted Lucy to stay in the big city for one night. I don't know what President Gao said on the other end of the phone, but David smiled and said, "President Gao really understands his subordinates. I'd like to thank President Gao here first. When you come to the big city, you must let me know, and I'll treat you to a meal—"

After hanging up the phone, David said to Jack, "Now there's no problem. Can you have a drink?"

With things said and done to this extent, Jack couldn't refuse anymore. So, the aroma of wine gradually filled the room.

"Come on, for the first glass of wine, welcome Jack to the big city—"

A bottle of wine was quickly finished, and David asked someone to open the second bottle. At this time, Lucy said, "Don't just focus on drinking. You still haven't finished that joke."

At this moment, David's face was flushed. He rolled up his shirt sleeves and said, "Okay, I'll continue with that joke—"

David said, "The waitress was forced by that boss and had no choice but to say in not very standard Mandarin that this dish was called turtle eggs."

When Lucy heard the name of the dish, she was stunned for a moment, while Jack secretly laughed in his heart, thinking that it was indeed the joke he had heard before.

"Turtle eggs? How can there be such a dish name?"

As she spoke, Lucy picked up a live shrimp and put it on Jack's plate.

"Have you never heard of it? Listen to me. There's more. When the boss heard the name of the dish, his reaction was the same as yours. But the waitress said that when she used to announce the name of this dish, some people said it was an insult.

Our boss said that we shouldn't say 'turtle eggs' anymore and should say 'soft-shelled turtle eggs', but the customers still thought it was an insult. What could we do? We had to stop announcing the name of this dish."

It seemed that the joke was finished, but neither Lucy nor Jack laughed. David also seemed to know that this joke wasn't very funny, so he filled his glass and said, "After the waitress finished speaking, our boss said, 'Turtle eggs, soft-shelled turtle eggs, aren't they just bastard eggs? What's there that can't be said?'"

With a Puchi,Lucy finally burst out laughing. Jack also laughed and then picked up his glass.

After drinking two bottles of wine, the three of them were like real relatives.

Can we say that wine is not a good thing? After drinking the fine wine, Jack was already arm in arm with David, and he really seemed like siblings with Lucy.

It seemed that the atmosphere was just right. David clinked glasses with Jack again, his face flushed, and said, "Brother, I want to ask you something. You have to tell me the truth."

Jack looked at the face that was leaning close to him and smelled the strong smell of alcohol. He smiled slightly and said, "Brother-in-law, are you going to ask me about the stock market?"

David was immediately stunned. It was estimated that he didn't expect Jack to be so clear-headed even though he had drunk so much.

Lucy looked at Jack. Although her face was flushed, there was also a trace of doubt in her eyes.

"For stocks, you can buy them boldly and buy more. I can't guarantee what will happen in the future, but this time I can guarantee that you'll only make a profit and not suffer a loss."

Jack's face was red, and he shouted like a street vendor selling quack remedies who claimed to cure all diseases.
