Chapter 16 The Exciting Moment Has Arrived

There is a situation in which people can easily become restless and anxious. That is when they know that something good is about to happen but keep waiting without it arriving. This kind of waiting is the most torturous.

Jack had already seen this anxious look on the faces of several people. Jack was certain that these people must have bought a lot of stocks, and maybe they had even taken out the money they had hidden away at home and invested it in the stock market.

But no one asked Jack when the stock market would soar. Because they thought that if Jack really knew when the stock market would skyrocket, then Jack would be like a god.

So far, people still believed what Jack had said.

In fact, people were increasingly believing Jack's words. Because during this period, on the large screen in the securities hall, among the sea of green stock prices, some stocks had gradually turned red.

The scattered red spots dotted the "green grassland", and when people saw this, an indescribable joy welled up in their hearts.

So, Jack once again saw that look of anticipation on the faces of some people, just like that of a young girl longing for love. Jack still maintained a smile and was busy going up and down the building every day.

The exciting moment was about to come. Although he was extremely excited inside, Jack still looked calm on the surface.

One should remain calm in the face of great events. Jack couldn't remember which wise man had said such a thing, but he had deeply engraved it in his heart.

Just when people were feeling uneasy, the stock market finally soared, and it happened suddenly.

When the stock market opened on this day, the large screen in the business hall of the securities company suddenly turned completely red, as bright as a red flag being unfurled.

It was a pity that not many people saw this miracle. Because at this time, there were still only a few people in the hall.

But then, people gradually poured into the business hall from all directions.

For every stock investor, they were constantly concerned about their own stocks at all times.

But for Jack, the sudden soar of the stock market was already within his expectations. So, after learning that the stock market had soared, Jack just smiled and then continued to do what he should do.

Also, all of a sudden, the atmosphere in the sub-branch became somewhat mysterious. People all had happy expressions on their faces and were whispering to each other.

And Jack had become the most popular person in the sub-branch. Wherever he went, people greeted him with smiles, and they would watch him leave with looks of admiration and gratitude.

There were also some more interesting looks, and most of these looks came from some young female colleagues, such as Emily, Lucy's assistant.

In response to this, Jack just smiled, looking calm and detached.

Of course, not all the looks were friendly. Jack saw unfriendly expressions on the faces of some people.

Jack knew that these people had either bought few stocks or hadn't bought any stocks at all.

In fact, it was still not too late to buy now, except that the stock prices were a little higher than before, and they hadn't bought at the lowest price.

Jack didn't have any money left in his hands. If he had money, he would definitely buy some more stocks.

As for the person who hadn't bought any stocks, there was actually only one, that was Harold, the office director. He had become the only person in the entire sub-branch who hadn't bought any stocks.

At this time, when people in the entire sub-branch met, they all asked in a mysterious and low voice, "Did you buy any stocks? Did you buy any?"

And the answers of many people were almost the same: "Yes, I bought some, but just a little bit."

Only Harold seemed to have been abandoned by the whole world and had become the most pitiful person.

To make matters worse, there were some people who were insensitive and asked him the same question. This made Harold very angry.

So, after his anger subsided, Harold went to see President Gao and said that in previous years, the superior had specifically issued a document strictly prohibiting financial practitioners from trading stocks.

He also said that now, stock trading had become a common practice in the sub-branch, and everyone was not focused on their work. He was worried that problems would arise.

After hearing these words, President Gao asked him to find that document and then draft a notice according to the regulations in the document.

After saying this, before Harold left, President Gao asked him if there was anything else.

Harold was holding a notebook and recording President Gao's instructions. When he heard President Gao's question, he looked up at President Gao and asked with a puzzled look on his face, "Is that all?"

President Gao seemed a bit unhappy and said, "What else can we do? Fire them all? If we fire them, will you be a teller and I count the money? Is that okay?"

When Harold heard that President Gao's tone was wrong, he quickly said, "No, no. I mean, should we hold a meeting to emphasize this..."

President Gao waved his hand and said, "A meeting? What kind of meeting? Don't I have enough meetings every day?"

When Harold saw that the situation was not good, he quickly closed his notebook and slipped away.

Harold was not stupid. Before he went out, he saw that the computer on President Gao's desk was showing the stock market quotations.

Was President Gao also trading stocks? Thinking of this, Harold broke out in a cold sweat.

When he returned to his office, Harold shakily picked up his water cup and took a sip of water. After calming down a bit, he began to think of a countermeasure.

The notice that President Gao asked him to issue definitely couldn't be issued. Since President Gao was also trading stocks, issuing such a notice would just embarrass President Gao.

After thinking about it over and over again, Harold thought that he was really a fool.

Just sitting there was of no use. Harold was going to do something to make up for the bad impression he had left on President Gao just now.

But just then, Tom, President Gao's driver, came in with a big smile on his face. "Director Harold, these are the receipts for my recent business trip. Please sign them."

As he spoke, Driver Tom placed a stack of pasted receipts in front of Harold.

When he saw that it was Tom, President Gao's driver, Harold's expression softened a bit. He picked up the stack of receipts on the table and started looking through them.

In fact, Harold did this every time. On the one hand, it showed that he was serious and responsible, and on the other hand, it allowed him to know President Gao's general itinerary.

But no matter which receipt Harold saw, and no matter if there was a problem with the receipt or not, he wouldn't ask any more questions and would directly sign it.

He knew that asking was useless, and he had to sign it in the end. Why bother to make himself look stupid? Besides, Tom had a tight mouth. Even if he asked him, Tom would shift the responsibility to President Gao.

But for some reason today, Harold looked at the receipts particularly carefully, which made Tom very unhappy.

"Director Harold, President Gao is still waiting for me to drive the car." As he spoke, Tom picked up the pen on the table and made a gesture as if he was going to hand it to Harold.

Harold didn't take the pen. Instead, he held the two receipts at the bottom and said, "Did President Gao go to the big city a few days ago?"

Tom glanced at the two receipts and casually said "Hmm".

Harold looked at him, then flipped through the desk calendar on the table and said, "That's not right. President Gao was having a meeting at the city branch those two days. How could he have gone to the big city?"

Tom knew that it was pointless to lie anymore. After all, the person in front of him was the office director. So, Tom pretended that he hadn't seen clearly just now, took the receipts and looked at them, and then said, "Oh, I remembered wrongly. These two expressway receipts for the trip to the big city were for Jack's reimbursement that I helped with."

"Jack went to the big city?" Harold said in surprise.

If he remembered correctly, President Gao had told him a few days ago to ask Jack to do something, but he hadn't said that it was to go to the big city!

"Yes, he drove my car there."
