Chapter 18 Brother

Jack placed the napkin with the numbers written on it in front of Harold, but Harold just glanced at it and seemed not to care much.

However, Jack thought he was just pretending. Now everyone in the sub-branch was as happy as if it were the Christmas. No, during the Christmas, people spend money, but now everyone was making a fortune every day, and they were all beaming with joy.

Harold couldn't possibly be unaffected. After all, almost no one would turn their back on money.

Money couldn't be said to be the most important thing, but it's better if the more the better.

Could Harold be so detached from the world that he didn't care about money?

Jack wouldn't believe it even if he was beaten to death.

Sure enough, while Jack was lowering his head to deal with a big crab, Harold poured a glass of wine for Jack and casually moved the napkin to a place where it wouldn't be easily wet by water stains.

Jack pretended not to see his little move, even though Harold did it very casually.

They had a very pleasant meal, and the two of them also drank a lot of wine. Taking advantage of the alcohol, Harold said to the waitress, "Take a good look. This is my little brother. Don't forget to give him a discount when he comes to eat in the future."

Jack pretended to be drunk, squinted his eyes, and said, "What kind of discount? A 99% discount or an 88% discount?"

The waitress didn't know how to answer and looked at Harold, saying, "Director Harold, I'll go and ask the boss how much of a discount we can give."

The waitress's words made Harold feel a bit embarrassed. So, he said simply, "What's there to ask? When he comes to eat in the future, just put it on my account directly."

It was a win-win situation. The two of them staggered out of the hotel and walked on the bustling street with colorful lights.

The city was now undergoing large-scale urban construction, and everywhere presented a thriving scene.

Harold put his arm around Jack's shoulder and said drunkenly, "Brother, it was the right decision to transfer you to the office. Talents like you should work in the office. What kind of place is the security department? That's a place for rough people."

Jack also followed his words and said, "Yes, thank you, Director, for taking me in and getting me out of that place. Don't worry. From now on, I'll follow you and charge forward for you."

Harold laughed heartily and at the same time patted Jack's shoulder, with a look of pride on his face.

Jack listened to his laughter and smelled the alcohol on his body, but he sneered inwardly.

Jack hated Harold. He had hated him since his first year of working in the bank.

When Jack first joined the bank, he met a college student who was interning in the bank.

This college student came from a poor family, but he was very smart, diligent in doing things, and worked very seriously. Many people in the sub-branch had a good impression of him and hoped that he could stay and work in the bank after his internship.

However, it wasn't easy to get a job in this bank. Just having good performance wasn't enough. A lot of work had to be done behind the scenes.

Of course, if his family was wealthy or he had a powerful relative, this matter would have been much easier.

The problem was that this intern, apart from being good at studying and working seriously, didn't have any of the above.

When his half-year internship was coming to an end, this intern was feeling down and went to chat with Jack, pouring out all his innermost thoughts.

Jack was naturally compassionate, but he couldn't help with such a big matter as getting this person to stay and work in the bank.

After thinking it over and over again, Jack came up with an idea for him, suggesting that he make some special contributions, the kind that others hadn't thought of.

The intern listened to Jack's words and thought for a long time but couldn't figure out what special contributions he could make. Instead, he remembered all the dirty, arduous, and tiring work he had done in the sub-branch during the past half year.

Just thinking about it made him feel wronged, and he couldn't help crying. While crying, he said how hard his mother had it, working two jobs to support him through college.

He also said that it wasn't easy to find a job, and if he could really stay and work in the sub-branch, his mother wouldn't have to suffer anymore in the future.

His words were so pitiful that Jack felt very sad. Although he was sad, Jack still waited until he had poured out all his thoughts before saying unhurriedly, "I came up with the idea. You haven't even asked me what the idea is, yet you're crying."

These words made the intern not know whether to laugh or cry for a moment, but at the same time, a glimmer of hope flashed in his eyes, thinking that this young security officer seemed to have a way to help him.

"Brother, if you can help me, you'll be my benefactor in the future. No, you'll be the benefactor of my whole family."

"Brother? I'm actually two years younger than you."

"Then you'll be my brother from now on."

Jack smiled and then told him the idea he had come up with.

So, the next day, this intern respectfully submitted a rationalization proposal to Office Director Harold.

Harold was overjoyed when he read it and thought that there was a lot of potential in this matter.

But on the surface, he was very calm. After putting down the proposal, he said to the intern, "Your internship is coming to an end soon, right? Don't worry. I'll write your internship report myself."

Just like that, an internship report sent the intern away.

When the intern left the sub-branch, he met Jack with a look of despair. Jack also felt very sad but didn't know how to comfort him.

Finally, the intern left pitifully, and Jack felt sad for a long time.

What Jack didn't expect was that not long after the intern left the sub-branch, a rationalization proposal signed by Harold and Chief Security Officer Old Henry was submitted to the city branch.

The city branch regarded it as a treasure and sent a special person to the big city that day to make a special report to the leaders of the provincial branch.

And the intern didn't know anything about all of this, and neither did Jack, who was working in the security department at that time. By the time Jack knew that the rationalization proposal he had come up with had some movement, it was already a week later.

That day, Jack suddenly found that a savings outlet was working overnight to replace the access door next to the counter. After Jack asked the outlet director, he learned that the leaders of the provincial branch were coming for an inspection.

What were they inspecting? They were going to see the buffer door mentioned in the rationalization proposal.

The buffer door? Jack was stunned and thought, Isn't this the idea I came up with?

So, after some investigation, Jack learned that the rationalization proposal had become the "achievement" of Harold and Old Henry.

The two of them were so shameless that they didn't even change the name of the buffer door, which made Jack very angry.

But what was the use of being angry? How could a young man who had just started working and an intern fight against crafty people like Harold and Old Henry?

After all, they were young and didn't know the dangers of the world.

Jack knew the inside story but couldn't tell anyone about his grievances. Because although the idea of the buffer door was his, in order to help the intern, he had asked the intern to say that it was his idea.

Watching Harold and Old Henry gain honors, Jack could only swallow his anger.

Fortunately, the buffer door was finally adopted by all financial outlets across the country and even became a mandatory requirement, protecting many bank clerks behind the counter from being hurt by criminals. Jack's goal was finally achieved.

It was originally a win-win situation, but it was ruined by this duplicitous Harold. How could Jack not hate him?

"Brother, if you have anything to say in the future, just say it."

Harold staggered and said this as if he were talking in his sleep.

Jack looked at him with disgust and said insincerely, "Don't worry. If I have something, I will definitely tell you."
