Chapter 023 Small Business

Old Tom was now willing to run errands for Jack.

The place where Jack asked Old Tom to go was the largest electronics market in the city.

But what was sold the most here now were BP pagers. Digital mobile phones came second, and although there were still analog mobile phones, their numbers were obviously decreasing.

At this time, the price of BP pagers had dropped significantly. It had reached the stage where a pager was given for free as long as the service fee was paid. Analog mobile phones still had a market, but few people were interested in them.

The digital mobile phones were the most popular at this time. No matter what brand it was, there were more or fewer people standing in front of the counters.

Jack had been here a few days ago and had also taken a look at these digital mobile phones that seemed too bulky in his eyes.

Jack knew that 1999 was a year of great change.

In terms of communication means, digital mobile phones would dominate the world.

However, the purpose of Jack's visit here was not about mobile phones. What he wanted to see was a computer. But the computers at this time made him angry when he saw them.

The bulky CRT monitors, the heavy computer cases, and the processors with a speed as slow as a snail immediately made him think of investing in computers a few years later.

Jack also had another purpose for coming to the electronics city, which was to find a place that could process the door-closing reminder device. Finally, in a computer repair shop, Jack met a person.

Jack thought he looked somewhat familiar, but this person was rather indifferent.

Jack really couldn't remember who this person was. Looking at his deserted shop, he had to say, "I want to talk to you about a business deal."

After saying that, Jack pointed to the electronic accessories written on the window glass of his shop.

This person looked at Jack. He probably thought that Jack was too young, and even if there was a business, it wouldn't be a big one.

So, this person said, "This shop only does wholesale. For retail, turn left at the corner."

Was he being so arrogant? There was no one in his shop either!

Jack smiled and said, "My business deal is very big, but the requirements are also very high. If you can take it on, one hundred thousand, two hundred thousand, or even one million dollars are all possible. It depends on your ability."

When this person heard this, he sized Jack up a few times and then said somewhat sarcastically, "Are you bragging? I have the ability. It depends on what kind of business it is."

Jack didn't care. He just looked around his shop. Finally, looking at the computer and those messy accessories on the counter, he said, "Just looking at the state of your desk, I guess you're not the kind of person who can do big things. Goodbye."

After saying that, Jack turned around and was about to leave. This person wasn't willing to let him go and blocked his way, saying, "You make it clear. What's wrong with my place that you say I'm not the kind of person who can do big things?"

Jack said, "Your shop is not big in area, and the location is not good either. And your service attitude is not very good. Also, if you're repairing computers, just repair them. Why make the desk so messy? People will definitely doubt your skills when they see it."

The person was stunned by Jack's words. He thought, Isn't this how computer repair shops are? It's normal to be a bit messy!

Jack added, "People with a broad vision and ambition will definitely do things in an orderly manner and be polite. A person as arrogant as you will definitely only be able to run this small shop for the rest of your life."

After saying that, Jack was about to leave.

The person was even more unwilling to let him go. He grabbed Jack and said, "Are you here to pick a fight today? Make it clear, or you won't be able to leave."

Jack smiled, then turned around and sat on the dirty chair.

The person stood opposite Jack and looked at him in a daze. He really didn't understand what this young man was trying to do today.

When Jack was looking around the person's shop, he had already seen the business license placed on the table by the person and also saw the name on it. Seeing that name, Jack remembered why he thought this person looked familiar.

So, Jack said those words that seemed inexplicable to others to this person.

This person was known for his arrogance. But he was the founder of the first computer company in this city.

However, it was also because of his excessive arrogance that his computer company finally went bankrupt in the tide of the proliferation of computer companies.

Jack planned to remold him, starting from breaking his arrogance.

Jack sat on the chair and didn't say a word. The person became a bit anxious. He looked at Jack but didn't know where to start.

What Jack said was right. People with a broad vision and ambition should do things in an orderly manner and be polite. But he couldn't change his bad temper. Moreover, his skills were among the best in this electronics city, so it seemed okay to be a bit arrogant.

However, his business here was really not good. It was only the jobs that his peers couldn't handle that were given to him. And very few customers came into his shop.

This gentle-looking young man's words were really hurtful, but he also seemed to be a capable person.

"What do you do?" the person asked.

"I work in a bank," Jack said.

When he heard the word "bank", the person knew that Jack must have some business deals in hand.

Banks were among the first units to use microcomputers. If he could do business with them, he would definitely be able to make money.

"What do you want from me?"

As soon as these words were spoken, Jack knew the reason why his business was scarce.

"Boss, I'm here to talk about business. Shouldn't you pour me a glass of water and offer me a cigarette?"

The person looked at the smiling Jack and actually went to pour a glass of water. Then he said to Jack, "I don't smoke. How about I go and buy a pack?"

Jack smiled and said, "I don't smoke either."

The person was taken aback. He thought, Are you looking for trouble?

Jack continued, "When doing business, you should treat customers like gods. Greet them with a smile, pour them tea and water, all for the sake of making money. With your arrogant attitude, who will pay attention to you?"

The person held back his anger and didn't flare up in the end. Such arrogant people knew that those who dared to scold them must have something they wanted in their hands.

Otherwise, if someone scolded and then left, they might get beaten up.

After Jack finished speaking, the person didn't say anything. Jack didn't want to scold him anymore either. He took out a piece of paper from his pocket, unfolded it, and said, "This is the drawing I made. See if you can understand it."

The person took the drawing and looked at it, then said, "This thing is simple. But your drawing is really bad."

Jack smiled and said to him, "You have one day to come up with a sample. Can you do it? If not, I'll find someone else."

The person put away the drawing and then looked at Jack somewhat contemptuously and said, "In the whole city, there are only two people who can make this thing in one day. I'm one of them."

Jack smiled and said, "Then who's the other one?"

"My master. But he's seriously ill now and doesn't take on any jobs."

Jack nodded, knowing that he had found the right person.

The person that Old Tom was looking for today was this arrogant guy.

Old Tom found this person smoothly according to the place Jack had said and then got a hand-made door-closing reminder device.

Looking at the thing in his hand, Old Tom wondered if Jack had already planned to make this door-closing device or had only found someone to process it after putting forward the suggestion.

However, no matter what, Old Tom knew that Jack's business deal would definitely make money.

The buffer door had been popularized across the country, and the demand for this door-closing reminder device must be very large. And there was no such thing on the market before. Jack had someone make this thing, so it was a unique business.

"What's the cost of this thing?"

The arrogant person replied, "Ten dollars. But if it's mass-produced by an electronics factory , the cost is estimated to be halved."

Old Tom was stunned. He thought that if this thing was made more refined, banks would definitely be willing to pay tens of dollars for one.

But before he came, Jack had told him that this was a small business.
