Facing Nolan's plea, I didn't soften.

Instead, I mocked without hesitation, "Now you realize you can't live without me?"

"Why didn't you think of that when you let Serenity kiss your cheek?"

Nolan's voice faltered, followed by a long silence.

We both knew this silence meant Nolan felt guilty.

I didn't stop, and continued.

"You knew perfectly well that seeing that scene would break my heart and upset me."

"It would even cause me unbearable pain."

"But you did it anyway."

"Because you were so sure, so certain that I wouldn't leave you."

"But you seem to have forgotten that for the past six years,"

"It's not me who needs you, but you who needs me."

"Ask yourself honestly, how many times have you been involved in company affairs?"

Nolan tried to explain urgently, but realizing this was the truth, he stopped.

"Sloane, I..."

I smiled coldly, leaving no room for argument: "Am I wrong?"

"Do you know how scared I was when I faced those men's ill-intentioned gazes?"
