Taking control

I took a seat at the dining table. I didn't miss the surprise on Christian's face as I joined him for dinner.

We ate in silence, the awkwardness growing with ever minute. I still couldn't bring myself to talk to him.

"Do you have everything you need? What about the keys, did you receive them?"

I simply nodded. He had arranged a house for me near the school and even bought me a new car. I almost didn't want to accept them, but that would be a loss on my path. He was getting everything he wanted from this contract, so I deserved to get everything I had been promised too.

There was another long silence before I spoke, "I can't get through to Henry. Have you heard from him?"

Christian's jaw tensed. His grip on his fork tightened, and suddenly he dropped it onto his plate. The clattering sound echoed.

Without a word, he pushed his chair back and stood up about to walk out of the dining room even though I could tell he wasn't done eating.
