I cried into his soaked shirt. Into the collar of the man who broke me and somehow still made me feel whole.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered into my hair. "I messed up. I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought I was giving us a future. I didn't want to lose you."
"You lied," I said into his chest, my voice muffled, raw. "You didn't trust me with the truth."
"I know." He pulled back enough to look at me, his hands warm against my cheeks. "And I'll never forgive myself for that. But if you let me… I'll spend the rest of my life making it right."
I stared at him, the rain still falling hard behind us.
"I didn't want to hate you," I whispered.
"I wouldn't blame you if you did."
"But I don't." My voice broke again. "I can't."
His forehead rested against mine. "You and this baby… you're my entire world, Alora. There's no version of my life without you in it. I was stupid. I was desperate. But I never meant to hurt you."
