Chapter 13: A Deal with the Devil

The Crimson Pavilion

The air inside the Crimson Pavilion was thick with the scent of incense and perfume. Lavish red curtains draped the walls, and elegant noblemen and dangerous figures sat in dimly lit corners, whispering secrets over expensive wine.

Leon walked in confidently, but Iris stayed tense at his side.

"This place stinks of trouble," she muttered.

Leon smirked. "That's what makes it fun."

At the center of the grand hall sat Seraphina, reclining on a silk-covered chaise. The Crimson Madame of the Black Vipers was as alluring as she was dangerous, her golden eyes watching Leon like a cat sizing up a meal.

She tapped her glass. "You walked into my house like you own it, Leon. Explain why I shouldn't hand your head over to the nobles for a fat reward."

Leon smiled, stepping closer. "Because I have something better than a bounty."

She raised an eyebrow. "And what would that be?"

Leon leaned in. "An opportunity."

Seraphina chuckled. "You always did know how to talk, but I'm getting impatient."

Her fingers flicked, and two armed men stepped forward, gripping their daggers.

Iris tensed. "Leon…"

Leon didn't flinch. He had expected this.

The Gamble

Leon took a slow breath and said, "You already know I failed to kill Lord Cross. You also know that I've pissed off both the nobles and the underworld."

Seraphina smirked. "You make it sound like a talent."

Leon continued, "What if I told you I could finish the job and give the Black Vipers control over Cross's territory?"

That made Seraphina pause.

"Cross is powerful," she said. "But he's not stupid. He'll be expecting you."

Leon grinned. "That's why I need your help."

She studied him, her fingers tracing the rim of her glass.

Then she laughed softly. "Oh, Leon… you really are reckless."

She leaned forward, her golden eyes gleaming. "Alright, let's make a deal."

Leon stiffened. Deals with Seraphina were never simple.

She smiled. "I'll give you protection. But in return… I want you to do something for me."

Leon exhaled. "What is it?"

Seraphina leaned closer, her lips near his ear.

"I want you to seduce and destroy a noblewoman."

Leon blinked. "…What?"

Seraphina grinned. "A noblewoman stands in the way of my plans. You're going to get close to her, win her heart, and then shatter it."

Iris muttered, "This is insane."

Leon stared at Seraphina. "Who's the target?"

Seraphina's smirk deepened.

"The Cold Princess—Selene Valenford."
