A Private Meeting
Later that night, Leon sat in the training hall, polishing his sword. The duel had drawn more attention than he expected, and he could already feel the shifting atmosphere around him.
Some knights looked at him with respect. Others, with jealousy.
But the most interesting reaction had come from Selene.
She had been watching him differently after the duel—less like a nuisance and more like someone worth considering.
And now, as the doors to the training hall creaked open, he turned to see her standing there, her silhouette outlined by the moonlight.
She wasn't in her usual training gear. Instead, she wore a deep blue dress, the fabric hugging her form in a way that was… distracting.
Leon smirked. "Princess, to what do I owe this surprise visit?"
Selene stepped forward, her expression unreadable. "You embarrassed Lord Edgar tonight."
Leon leaned back. "He embarrassed himself. I just gave him a little push."
She exhaled, shaking her head. "You don't understand the political mess you've created."
Leon chuckled. "Oh, I understand. I just don't care."
For a moment, silence stretched between them. Then, to his surprise, she smiled.
Not a mocking smirk. Not a cold, calculating expression. A real, amused smile.
"You're reckless," she said, walking closer. "But I suppose that recklessness has its uses."
Leon raised an eyebrow. "Is that your way of saying you're impressed?"
Selene stopped just a step away from him, tilting her head slightly. "Perhaps."
A Dangerous Proximity
The air between them shifted.
Leon could feel the warmth of her body, the faint scent of her perfume—something light but intoxicating.
She wasn't acting like the untouchable noble lady tonight.
No, tonight… she felt closer.
"You're different from the others," Selene murmured. "You don't grovel. You don't fear consequences."
Leon smirked. "And I think that's exactly why you keep coming back."
Selene studied him, and for the first time, her guard lowered.
"Maybe," she admitted softly.
Leon's eyes darkened. "Careful, Princess. You almost sound like you like me."
She exhaled sharply, as if realizing how close she had let things get. Immediately, her mask slipped back into place.
"This conversation never happened," she said, stepping back.
Leon chuckled. "Whatever you say."
But as she turned to leave, he caught something important in her expression.
A hesitation.
A moment of doubt.
Selene Valenford wasn't as untouchable as she pretended to be.
And Leon? He was going to shatter that icy exterior—piece by piece.
