Lucien stared at Aeris, trying to decide if this was a trap. "You… want me to train with you?"
"Yes," she said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Unless you'd rather keep getting humiliated by everyone."
[She's got a point, you know.]
"I didn't get humiliated—" Lucien started, then stopped when Aeris raised an eyebrow. "…Okay, maybe a little."
Aeris crossed her arms. "I'll make this simple: I hate wasting time. You have potential, but you're sloppy and undisciplined. If you want to survive here, you'll need more than luck and reckless bravery."
Lucien narrowed his eyes. "And what do you get out of this?"
"Someone competent enough to be a proper sparring partner." She shrugged.
[Oof. She's not wrong.]
Lucien sighed. "Fine. When do we start?"
"Now."
"…What?"
Two minutes later, Lucien found himself dragged to the academy's training grounds. The place was mostly empty at this hour—probably because everyone else valued their lives. Aeris tossed him a practice sword.
"Let's see how bad you really are."
Lucien caught the sword and immediately regretted everything.
For the next hour, Lucien learned the true meaning of pain.
Aeris moved like lightning—every strike precise and brutal. Lucien barely kept up, parrying and dodging like his life depended on it. Which, honestly, it probably did.
"Your stance is terrible," Aeris snapped, knocking his sword aside and sweeping his legs out from under him.
Lucien hit the ground with a groan. "Noted…"
"This is amazing. I haven't seen you this pathetic in days."Ignis said.
"Shut up, Ignis," Lucien muttered.
Aeris tapped his fallen sword with her foot. "Get up."
Lucien dragged himself to his feet, lungs burning. "You know… I'm starting to think you just enjoy beating me up."
Aeris's eyes glinted. "Maybe a little."
[Oh no. She's one of those.]
They went another round. And another. By the time they finally stopped, Lucien was ready to collapse.
"You lasted longer than I expected," Aeris said, sounding almost… impressed.
Lucien tried to glare at her but was too tired. "Glad I could entertain you."
"Same time tomorrow," she said, already walking away.
Lucien watched her go, wondering what kind of nightmare he'd just signed up for.
[On the bright side, if she kills you, at least it'll be quick.]
"…Comforting."
