CHAPTER 16 : Fractured Trust

Eve couldn't shake the feeling that she was missing something—something crucial about Alexander's past. She started digging, following the breadcrumbs he hadn't meant to leave behind. Bank records, medical reports, a list of underground fights. And then she found it—a direct connection between Alexander and Carver's criminal dealings. It wasn't just about the fights. It was bigger. Darker.

She confronted him that night, the apartment thick with unspoken words.

"You lied to me," she whispered, holding up the evidence. "You told me you fought to survive. But this… this is more than survival."

Alexander's expression darkened, torn between anger and resignation. "You don't understand what this world is, Eve. And you don't want to."

"Then make me understand," she pleaded. "Or is lying to me easier than admitting who you really are?"

Alexander clenched his fists. "Who I am is exactly why you need to walk away."

Eve shook her head, heart breaking. "You keep telling me you're broken, but all I see is a man too afraid to be anything else."
