The carriage man's story

As I stepped out onto the street, I noticed carriages rushing to their destinations which seemed far away.

Seeing a good carriage,

I hired it, I wanted to show Mr Samson, my new target. That I was a countryside naive noble lady.

The carriage looked descent and elegant.

It was large compared to ordinary ones. The carriage driver was dressed up decently. Just from one glance, anyone would guess it is a noble carriage.

I ordered in an arrogant tone" Take me to Mr Samson Martin's house."

[That was how nobles used to order commoners. As I was specially acting like a young girl who may be out by herself for first time, I had to speak like that.]

The carriage man looked me up to down

"Young Lady, do you mean Village elder, Mr Martin?" he asked in a polite voice.

"Yes, is there any other Samson Martin here? " I asked arrogantly, covering my face with the fan.

"No , no my lady . I just don't recommend you , a young noble girl to visit Mr Samson.

I know, I am not someone who can give you advice, but I too had a daughter ...." He looked sad and heartbroken. His face was filled with worries .

But In my situation, I could not consider his feelings. The only aim I had was to take revenge and return to my sweet Lusav and my Huge Manor.

I could understand just from a glance that his daughter was harmed by Samson, the same person who tried to harass Granny's daughter.

I spoke confidently looking into his eyes

" I am not changing my destination. Are you willing to drive me there ?"

The carriage driver looked hesitant, but he soon agreed to my request. (ahem ... order)

I stepped onto the carriage.

The insides were soft and warm .

I sat on the soft red pillowed seat .

Sitting there I could clearly see the back of my driver . He looked tired , but was good at his job .

The carriage ride started smoothly .

The doors were locked , and I was comfortable inside .

Once we travelled for few minutes, I called out the carriage man "Mister , why did you mention your daughter ? Is there something that Mr Samson did to hurt your family?"

I knew the man would be uncomfortable to share his personal matters with a completely strange young noble.

But, I could not stop being curious. Even though I knew it was a rude question to ask a stranger, I couldn't hold back my curiosity.

I wished to know, how many people these filthy men hurt. That would motivate me to take revenge on them the brutal way possible.

The carriage man was silent, I wanted to convince him to speak up. As I was going to speak again , the man spoke

His voice clearly sounded sad and angry.

His emotions were expressed through his words.

"Those, those people, they destroyed my Treasure, my Family, my everything.

Now I am all alone , I ..... I don't even have someone to tell how I feel ."

His voice was trembling, I didn't know what to say. I was never an expert to comfort people.

The only thing came from heart was "Speak to me then, I will patiently listen to your stories and worries.

Sir I may be a stranger to you, but sometimes telling how you truly feel to a stranger can be better than sharing how you feel to someone you know closely ."

The old man was again silent ...

Soon he stopped the carriage, turned back and peeped through the window .

His eyes were tearing up . Now that I look at him, he looked tired .

He spoke

"Young Lady , As a noble , do you wish to listen to a commoner's sad story?"

"mhmm , yes . I want to listen to your worries. I may not be able to comfort you. But I promise never to tease or insult you for what you experienced."

The man smiled.

He turned to his driving position. He started riding the carriage again.

"Young Lady, you are so kind.

There was no one who wanted to waste their time listening to a poor commoner's life story. I don't know how to tell you. I feel sad and anger thinking about it.

I had a daughter just like you . She was really kind and sweet child .

But now ... Now she is no more ." His voice was trembling in sorrow.

I silently listened to him .

He spoke again "She was 16 that year. She loved bread. She used to buy bread from Mr Roy who was a close friend of Mr Samson. Being a regular customer Mr Roy advised my daughter to apply as a maid at Samson's mansion. My child ... she wished to carry some burden away from me . She wished to help me with her hard-earned money .

She applied for a job in that hell.

I .... I still remember, the day she got accepted as a maid. She prepared herself , cake for me . We all both celebrated that day in joy .

I was reluctant to send my only daughter to a manor as maid . Since my wife's death , My child was my only hope in life. My only will to live... But they ... they took her away from me." The carriage driver chocked on his words . He could barely speak more . The sorrow he had hidden deep within was starting to pour out. I wished to comfort him.

"It must have been hard on you." I spoke in a soft voice. I intended to reduce his sorrow at least a little.

"Yes ...yes it was really hard . I wished I was the one who died instead . My poor child . She was tortured by that filthy beast.

He used her for his dirty desires."

He was angry .

I could hear his veins popping. I understood how hard it must have been for a single father to lose his only child, at a young age .

Before I spoke , he stopped the carriage again. Turned towards me. His eyes were red. His forehead veins were popping out.

Even in anger, his eyes were tearing up.

He spoke in a cold voice" If, I get a chance I will tear those beasts apart myself. That is what motivates me to live. ....

Does my these thoughts scare you young lady ?" He asked in a worried voice.

Helen who already was planning to tear apart those men just smirked and spoke.

" Well, maybe someone will fulfill your wish for you, mister."

The man was confused. He started the carriage again.

"I apologize for being rude earlier and stopping the carriage twice, Young lady." He apologized.

I was actually happy to know someone trusted me enough to tell me their true feeling. "It's okay. I was the one who told you to tell me your worries. I am happy you trusted me."

The man smiled while Helen rode the rest of the way in silence.
