The bright sunlight that penetrated through the classroom turned dull a heap of books on the table that separated Sophie and Jaxon. Sophie was deeply immersed in the book she was reading while Jaxon on the other hand had completely lost interest in his own book his eyes aimlessly lingering around the room in boredom.
"Why are we reading this again?" Jaxon asked.
Sophie sighed her head slowly tilting upwards. "Because... we need to gather as much info on the topic we chose."
"You mean the topic you chose. I had no say in the matter." Jaxon said.
"Well I asked you to chose and you said 'whatever you choose I'll be okay with it' "
Jaxon sighed. "That does sound like something I'd say. Okay fine can we at least take a break I'm completely fired out."
Sophie heaved a deep sigh of frustration. "Okay fine but only for 10 minutes and then we'll get back to work."
Jaxon smirked. "That's fine by me."
Sophie's head tilted towards the window staring outside with her arms crossed.
Jaxon's gaze lingered around trying to think of a way to commence his operation. "So... you're a Belmont right ?"
Sophie's head slowly tilted staring back at him. "Yes."
"Got any siblings or... ?"
"No just me actually."
Jaxon smirked "Ohh... pretty cool being the only child huh ?"
Sophie smiled softly slowly beginning to resonate with Jaxon "Well I would have really loved to have siblings but yeah it's pretty cool though."
"Of course... I mean your Dad is the richest man in Gotham after all"
Sophie chuckled softly. "So what about you?"
Jaxon's smirked. "I really don't know much about my family. Who my parents are, or whether I even have any siblings at all? That's why I don't have a second name."
Sophie's expression turned grave. "Really?"
"Yeah"
"So how have you been surviving your entire life."
Jaxon's face turned grave as an image of Jack flashed in his head immediately switching it to a smirk. "I grew up in a foster home."
"Wow I didn't really know."
"Not a lot of people do."
A deep silence hung over the room for a moment.
"So... your Dad what's he like?"
"My Dad? My Dad is a good person he's very kind and generous and–"
Jaxon cut in. "What makes you think your Dad is a good person?"
Sophie's brow furrowed. "Well because he's been there for me my entire life and he's the main reason why Gotham is still standing in one piece."
"Yeah but why hasn't he said anything about the attack at his own unveiling ceremony ?"
"Honestly I don't know but I'm sure he's still gonna say something about it and besides he was the one in highest shock after all it was his own unveiling ceremony that got attacked."
"Yeah but I really think He should have–"
A buzzing sound from Sophie's phone vibrated the table immediately drawing both their attention.
Sophie immediately grabbed her phone switching it on, her brows squinted. "It's my Dad" Her head tilted towards Jaxon. "He's going public."
Belmont's face was on every screen in Gotham from phones to laptops to big screens. His esteemed voice blasting from different corners of the city simultaneously.
"Dear people of Gotham, I know that I haven't said anything since the recent attack at my own unveiling ceremony and quite frankly I have no excuse so many died, so many got injured which was all my fault and in the middle of the attack I fled like a damn coward.
But a brave man arose from the shadows protecting as many as he could and taking down multiple criminals I'm talking about the one popularly known as Black Mask honestly speaking I can't thank him enough for what he did that day and what he has been doing ever since and after hearing what the Mayor said the other day I must admit I was highly disappointed but as a fellow citizen of Gotham I would like to say that I am in full support of the masked hero Black Mask and the city of Gotham especially myself will be forever indebted to you.
And as for all the casualties I promise to provide enough support to help you with what you had to go through on that day because of me. I forever remain Belmont, Gotham's number one ally."
The city of Gotham burst into a lively shout all cheering Belmont on immediately forgetting about the grudge they held against him.
Jaxon's face lited up in surprise his head slowly drifting from the phone to Sophie's face. "I guess you were right."
Sophie smirked victoriously.

Later that evening - Inside an abandoned warehouse
The sound of rapid gunshots filled the air, followed by agonizing screams of men, immediately a black car drifted out of the warehouse with a screeching turn immediately tearing down the road the headlights illuminating the dark streets ahead at the same moment a black silhouette bursted out of the warehouse it's piercing blue eyes glowing against the night.
With a single stomp of his foot he zoomed across the street heading straight for the car.
Three men stuck their head and arm out from the back seats and the right front seat shooting at the black silhouette using the red rear light for vision. Their bullets chipped the road as Jaxon swiftly sidestepped from the left to right evading the shots they kept on firing but still no luck.
Jaxon's feet struck hard against the pavement his entire momentum channeling towards his arm with powerful force his arm shot forward launching his blade through the air at blinding speed instantly the sword broke through the rear glass piercing through the back of the driver's seat piercing through bone and flesh before bursting out from his chest in a gruesome spray of blood.
Immediately he went limb his arm drifted the steering leftward sending the car crashing into a building violently releasing a burst of steam that hissed into the air like a pressure valve unleashed.
Jaxon stood firm on the ground not paying much attention to the car as he continued in his conversation with Milo. "I mean we all heard what he said right which means he's actually on our side."
"So what do we do now?" Milo asked.
"For now... we keep moving."
