Preface
The decade following the First Marauder Incident represents the most profound transformation of human society in recorded history. What began as an isolated incident would fundamentally reshape our understanding of civilization, consciousness, and survival. As nations struggled to respond, the world witnessed an unprecedented technological leap and the formation of new power structures. Within a decade, the world saw the dissolution of borders, the rise of global supercontinents, and the emergence of supernatural forces in the form of Revenants.
Timeline of Events
2025
March 15: Popular Televangelist becomes the first documented Marauder in Harare, Zimbabwe. His rampage leaves 75 dead before military forces barely neutralize him. Autopsies reveal neural corrosion unlike any known disease.
April - May: As isolated cases of similar incidents appear globally—Paris, Beijing, São Paulo, and Johannesburg—scientists and governments scramble to identify the cause. Early theories point to a viral outbreak, but there is no conclusive evidence.
June – December: Mass panic and public unrest spread as Marauders—humans transformed by an incomprehensible madness—begin terrorizing cities worldwide. Conventional military responses fail, as standard weapons prove ineffective against the newfound creatures.
2026
April: The United Nations convenes an emergency session in Geneva, establishing the Global Crisis Coalition (GCC). A multinational task force is formed to coordinate efforts against the Marauder threat. However, this structure quickly proves ineffective in the face of rapid escalation.
June: As the first Marauder hordes destroy large urban centres, major powers begin abandoning national borders. Nations consolidate their resources, focusing solely on survival and the immediate threat posed by the Marauders.
September: The Fall of Moscow, with over 12 million people lost to Marauders, marks a key turning point. The dissolution of the Russian Federation and the crumbling of the European Union are the first signs of the global shift away from traditional state systems.
At this point, everyone assumes the worst. "It's the apocalypse!" the headlines read.
2027
January: In the wake of the collapse of national governments, regional coalitions form across the globe. The GCC officially disbands as military and governmental powers realign.
April: The concept of the Three Continents emerges: Western Continent (formerly the Americas), Central Continent (Europe, Africa, and the Middle East) and Eastern Continent (Asia and Oceania).
Some nations rejected continental rule in favour of administrative autonomy. These were called Independent Towns and the Continents ruled to not touch them.
Also, the Marauder Syndrome was non-existent in less populated areas.
August: A picnic in Kenya's Aberdare Range ends in tragedy as a spatial rift (later termed Abyssal Zone) swallows a family of four. Global media dubs it a "hole to hell."
November: Min-Jun Park, a missing Seoul office worker, reappears with luminous runes snaking across his skin. He demonstrates electro kinesis, becoming the first Revenant.
2028 – 2029
January - July 2028: The occurrence of Abyssal Zones grows sporadically in various parts of the world. These zones are believed to be distortions in the fabric of space-time, and those caught inside are presumed lost forever. Only a few (0.8%) ever return with mystical powers ranging from pyrokenisis to strange abilities that cannot be categorized.
January 2029: In response to the need for specialized Marauder suppression, private companies begin forming around the use of Revenants as military contractors. These companies offer their services to the Three Continents, engaging in Marauder combat and offering protection for high-paying clients.
April 2029: One company, Wayne Company, emerges as a major player in this new world order. Led by the enigmatic Adam Wayne, Wayne Company quickly climbs to the top of the Company Rankings, despite having no prior influence or capital backing. Wayne's in-depth knowledge of Revenant powers raises suspicions about the origins of his understanding.
Around this time, Adam Wayne published a paper titled The Essence of Eshe that briefly explains Revenant powers and Marauders. Nothing substantial though it did help in Revenant development.
2030 - 2035
November 2030: The Tokyo blackout occurs where an Abyssal Zone swallows 12 city blocks in Tokyo.
December 2030: The Federal Guardian Authority (FGA), a government-backed Revenant company, is formed as a military and support organization. Unlike its profit-driven counterparts, the FGA focuses on civilian protection, humanitarian efforts, and stabilizing regions devastated by the Marauder outbreak. However, its emphasis on support and relief leaves it at the bottom of the Company Rankings, lacking the resources of the private companies.
July 2032: Tensions between the private companies and the FGA increase as the former criticize the latter's lack of efficiency and focus on "profitless" goals. At the same time, the FGA's influence in regions that prioritize human welfare grows, though it struggles with funding and limited support from the Three Continents.
January 2034: The conflict between private companies and the FGA intensifies as the demand for stronger action against the Marauders grows. However, the private companies' focus on efficiency and profit leads to moral and ethical dilemmas, with some companies resorting to ruthless tactics.
July 2035: The global situation remains fragile, with the Three Continents entrenched in a precarious balance of power. The future of humanity depends on how these new superpowers navigate the challenges of an increasingly unstable world.
Conclusion
Currently in 2036, the world has been irrevocably altered. National borders have been replaced by vast, autonomous continents. The rise of Revenant-based corporations has created new power structures, while the FGA remains the last bastion of traditional government-supported military action. The appearance of Abyssal Zones and the unpredictable nature of the Marauders ensure that humanity's survival is still in question. The next decade will likely determine whether civilization can rebuild or if the Marauder threat will claim what remains of the world.
