A Brutal Reminder

The captain of class D Nicholas Violet a tall-looking fellow with deep black hair and a pair of gleaming gray eyes, on his arms were plain onyx black gauntlets, he was supposedly the strongest among the whole of class D. As for his ability Seth was still unaware of what it was.

Seth had been observing different people during the past nine days in other to choose the most trustworthy and talented people whom he could bestow a cultivation art upon.

But among all the people Seth had been observing few of them stood out the most, and Nick was among them, right from day one Seth could sense a familiar aura from this said individual but he had never been able to figure out what it was as nick had barely done anything to stand out.

But now was a perfect chance for him to glimpse at whatever Nick was hiding, afterall he wouldn't hold anything back in a duel right?

Very quickly an individual stepped out from the class he was Syron Chace of class C, the one who was challenged.

As he walked forward rubbing his hands together while also wearing an insidious smile "This is the third time you're challenging me, Nick, do you really believe you could defeat me?" his voice cackled maliciously.

"well you never know, as they say, the third time is a charm," Nick replied unperturbed at his opponent's attitude.

Dong!

A sound rang out signaling the start of the battle.

Chace still wearing a disdainful expression got into a stance as a long silver spear appeared in his hands "Let's get this over with".

Swoosh!

In a blink of an eye, he had already pounced towards Nick, as swift as the wind his spear had already arrived in front of Nick inches away from piercing his forehead when…

Bam!

Chace tripped falling unto his face, with Nick still standing in the same spot unperturbed.

Standing back up instead of being furious or ashamed of what just happened, instead Chace chuckled ominously "A new ability?" shaking his head Chace warned, "You know you're not the only one who got stronger".

And just then he did something weird, even though there was still quite a bit of distance between him and Nick, he swung his spear at the empty air. While the spectators were confused at this act, Nick meanwhile suddenly sensing something leaped to the left.

Swish!

A blade-cutting sound rang out, the position Nick was previously standing in now had a blade mark, if he had been any slower he could have gotten a serious injury. If one looked closely at Nick's face a thine line of blood had just been drawn on his cheeks, touching his cheeks and feeling the warm flow of blood Nick's demeanor seemed to change as he got into a stance.

Chase who still hadn't moved had an unnerving smirk on his face, "You're not the only one who has new tricks" Just as this statement left his mouth the two immediately burst into a flurry of attacks.

Chase's battle style seemed to be geared mainly towards control and mid-range attacks which could be seen in his swift decisive strokes and measured strikes.

Meanwhile, Nick seemed to be the agility close combat type, with his crazy inhuman quick reflexes and power-packed punches.

Boom!

A full-powered clash rang out and at this moment thin cracks began to spread through Nick's gauntlets, but as though he didn't care Nick continued with his furious onslaught, it was as though the more he was injured the more ferocious he became, and what was an even match quickly began to tilt in his favor.

Chace meanwhile seemed to have finally accepted that his opponent wasn't as easy as he expected, as his expression became more serious and a light acrane hue seemed to shine on his spear as he started fully using his two abilities.

Chace had two abilities the first was what allowed him to send cuts through space giving him an advantage in a mid-range battle, as for his second ability… it was a weird ability of sorts that allowed him to attack at two different angles simultaneously and that wasn't all he seemed to be able to transmit a cut to any direction regardless of where his blade was pointing…..

His abilities could only be described as annoying and overpowered, and even at this such an individual was merely a class C student…

This made Seth recall what Dayo told him when he first resumed, that he wouldn't even be able to defeat the weakest of class C. Though it was painful he had to admit Dayo was right.

Bang!

Chace finally found an opening as he slammed the shaft of his spear against Nick's abdomen flinging him backward.

Skrrrrrr!

Even with how much power was behind that blow Nick still landed on his feet if it wasn't for the trickle of blood flowing from the edge of his mouth everyone might have thought he tanked the attack without taking any damage.

Ting! Ting! TIng!

The gauntlet on his hands finally gave up as they fell onto the floor in pieces, but Nick not even giving the pieces a glace pounced back into action this time a reddish aura could be seen warping around his hands, while others were assuming that this was an ability, in the crowd only one person had a shocked expression on his face.

It was no wonder he felt a familiar aura within Nick, it turned out that though not completely, Nick seemed to have started condensing his qi, Seth immediately activated his sixth sense and there he could see it clearly.

Though not as condensed and refined as his, Nick seemed to have still condensed his qi, His eyes gleamed as he remembered when the manual said though rare, it was possible for a human to condense his qi unconsciously, and it seemed Nick was such a person.

It was also said that such individuals had an extremely high talent for cultivation, in fact, their talent was so high that just breathing eating and sleeping was enough to allow them to condense their qi.

A fervent light gleamed in Seth's eyes, he had decided, he was definitely going to be having a talk with Nick after this.

BOOM!

After a series of relentless clashing, Nick finally collapsed in defeat, leaving the battered and bleeding figure of Chase to stand as the winner.

Even after a winner was decided there was no cheer of any kind as one would expect, instead the somber atmosphere was just filled with dead silence, as the students were once again reminded of the fact that advancing to a higher class was almost impossible in this academy of geniuses…
