Chapter 1

Our Story begins on a dark stormy night sometime around the

year 300 bu (before unification) somewhere near the the edges of the verdineian

Forrest. The storms raged outside the small tent made from the hide of the

large poisonous reptiles that scatter the valley, inside a young woman, who

even in her rough state exudes an aura of beauty, screams out in pain as

another older woman places her glowing hands on the young woman's stomach

hopefully easing the girls pain. Thunder crashes outside illuminating the small

camp of no more than a hundred tents, the wind and rain battering the quite

tribe with only small fires and the flashes of lighting illuminating the small

valley. The woman screams again inside the tent, suddenly there's a second

scream this time it's the scream of a newborn. The older woman places her

glowing hand on the woman's head and whispers to her, "rest now child you've

done well" as she says this, the young woman goes silent as she passes out from

exhaustion. The Older woman then turns to the newborn and does the same, the

child soon falls into a deep slumber like his mother as the storm continues to

crash around the small tribe. Unknown to most this new born would change the

world.

 The next

morning as the storm subsides and the tribes people leave their tents for the

night and set off for the days task, the young woman with beautiful dark hair

and a fair complexion with eyes like emeralds holds her newborn in her arms.

The baby making little noises as she rocks him.

"My little prince" she whispers as she continues to rock the

baby in her arms. Just as the baby is about to fall back asleep the curtain

door is thrown open and a small elderly woman with green tinged skin enters the

small tent.

"It's time" the older woman says as she reaches for the now crying

baby

"But he's not ready" the young woman says as she places her

hand over the child protectively

"This is the way of our people child" the older woman says "this

is the journey that all Bloodshades must take, its only due to his fathers sacrifice

that we even let this half bread take part in our path" she spits out the last

part

"if he passes he will be one of us and by extension so will

you, but that is many years away right now,

child, you have no say and no opinion on how we due things especially not after

you got my son killed you romana filth"

"Do you understand" the older woman says with more force as the

air seems to twinge with a toxic aura and her pale green eyes briefly glow

The young woman pulls her hands back and looks away tears

forming at the corners of emerald eyes, "I understand"

"Good" the older woman replies as she reaches dow and picks

up the newborn and carries him out of the tent Leaving the young woman alone as the tears

fall from her face.

"Did you have to be that hard on her ?" The older woman

hears from her right as she exits the tent, turning she looks at the new

arrival. A strong well built young man with dark black hair and green tinged

skin like the old woman. Unlike the old woman his eyes were a deep green that

matched his skin color.

"Son" the old woman growled the baby still in hand "How

would you like me to treat the woman who cost me my son, you a brother?"

"It's not like she killed him mother" the young man replied

"Kufu loved her and her him but her family killed him because they though some

tribesman wasn't good enough for their little princess"

"She knew how her family would react and she still went

through with this little affair" the old woman replied bitterly

"Kufu was a grown man and knew the consequences for his

actions mother the blame does not lie with her and it certainly doesn't lie on

the last piece that we have of him" the young man motions to the child in his

mothers arms

"Until he passes his awaking this half breed has to

connection to me or to you do you understand?"

"Yes mother," the young man looked less then pleased but

knew better then to argue with her

"Good now take him to the growhus with the other children"

the old woman says as she passes the newborn to the young man.

The young man, The boys uncle, takes the new born to the growhus

and hands him over to the nursemaid.

"Here's another one" he says gruffly "hows the supplies

looking do we need to go on another run?" He asks the nurse maid

"It's looking good for now we have still have a few rare

plants remaining and most of our common grade supplies have been restocked but our

high grade poisons and plants have been used up in your brothers war" she replies

"Good,"the young man says "we have an group set to head out

and gather from the verdina Forrest's in the next couple days hopefully we can

find something interesting.

"Hopefully" the nursemaid replies "do you want me to place

him next to the rest" holding the baby in her arms

"One second" he says as he approaches the baby "Hey there

little one, I know that I can't help much but this should help get you stronger,

think it of a gift from your father" as he says this he takes off the locket

around his neck, a small golden locket with the engraving of a emerald basilisk

on it

"this should help you draw in more poison" he says as he

places the locket around the baby's neck

"All good, just stick him next to everyone else" he says to

the nursemaid

The nurse Maid take the child into the tent and lays him in

a crib made from the manichineel tree as she lay the child down she expected

the child to start crying as the bark and sap are poisonous to the touch. Most babies

take at least a couple of hours to get used to the pain and for their bodies to

adapt to the poisons. But this child didn't he was in obvious discomfort, tears

forming at the edges of his little eyes but he did not cry out not once even

when his skin started to blister.

"He will be strong" the nurse maid whispered as she went to

check on the other children and the other plants that needed tending.
