Loraine raised her arm, wanting to ask a question but hesitated. "Excuse me, there's a rumor that a flying island of Aetheris has been completely covered in fog."

She hadn't even finished speaking when Chintya Badveil interrupted her. "Fog? There's nothing wrong here," she said gently to Loraine, flashing a grin.

Wein glanced between the two of them, silently weighing the moment before his gaze settled on Loraine, then back to Chintya Badveil. His expression was confused, and his trembling lips finally parted. "I can't believe this."

Loraine nodded in agreement, while Elena simply listened. Chintya Badveil seemed ready to explain. "I've heard the news, but for the past few days, the Arcveil residence hasn't experienced any such issue."

Wein was surprised, and Loraine tried to think it through. This was a phenomenon that couldn't be easily understood. Either this place had powerful mages capable of protecting the entire area from the fog, or the edge of the fog's reach had finally hit its limit.

"We can even breathe fresh air outside," Elena interjected. All eyes turned to her then—she seemed to understand the conversation they were having.

Pushing aside all the confusion, Wein turned toward Chintya Badveil, his gaze slowly drifting from his sister Elena. "I can't think of how this is even possible."

Then, he tried to send a telepathic transmission—the kind he usually used with Persephone. 'It's been a while since we talked, but I want to ask you about something.'

He waited for quite a while, listening in on the ongoing conversation at the table while continuing to eat the food that had arrived. Minutes passed before Persephone finally replied.

[I'm busy…]

[But there's no information about that, so I'll go check again.]

Wein cursed silently. The answer was unhelpful and left him no closer to clarity. He slowly picked up a fried fish and took a bite.

As the conversation drifted away from the topic of the fog, Loraine gradually relaxed and grew more comfortable with her surroundings. Wein had already finished around three plates and two whole chickens, roasted with a special seasoning.

"Wein, you're eating a lot," Chintya Arcveil teased playfully, flashing a grin as if trying to coax a laugh from Loraine.

Wein chuckled in response. "I haven't eaten this much in ages—being trapped in that torturous fog really does a number on your appetite."

Loraine simply observed. Elena leaned forward, eyes on her older brother as she asked, "What was the fog really like? You're all talking about it like it's something truly dangerous." She scratched her cheek in curiosity.

Wein gave her a bewildered look before replying. "Maybe you've never experienced it, but when you breathe that fog in, it feels like your lungs are on fire. And when it touches your skin, it's like an endless itch and flames roasting you from all sides. Your eyes water, your vision blurs, and it becomes hard to breathe." He might've exaggerated slightly, though the truth wasn't far off.

Elena looked at Loraine to make sure her brother wasn't lying. Loraine's first reaction was to nod in agreement, which made Elena believe him.

"Then how did you two survive?" Chintya Badveil asked, her curiosity piqued and worry creeping into her voice. Elena also seemed eager to hear the answer.

"If we stayed in sealed rooms, we'd be safe. So we just remained inside the dorms until the fog cleared."

"Wait," Elena cut in, her curiosity intensifying. "So… you just sat there doing nothing for that test?"

"'Doing nothing' sounds cruel for people like us who worked hard to defend the dorm from the fog, Devil Beasts, and everything else that attacked us—even vampires came to our dorm," Wein scoffed.
