The Prophecy Tablet

"How much longer do you plan to hide?"

Moss stood staring at the spot where the red bat mask had been shattered. She had intended to completely destroy Myotismon, but his undead resilience had exceeded even her expectations.

Thinking about it, it made sense. In the original story, Myotismon was destroyed and still managed to resurrect as VenomMyotismon. And even after VenomMyotismon was eliminated, his spirit possessed Yukio Oikawa, eventually becoming BelialMyotismon in Adventure 02...

His immortality rivals even the undead demons of the Jackie Chan Adventures universe!

While many Digimon are classified as undead-types and possess exceptional durability, most can still die if their Digicores are destroyed. Moss had obliterated Myotismon's body and his Digicore. By any standard, he should have perished.

And yet, he lived on.

"Is Myotismon still alive?" Lucy (Angewomon) asked, stunned.

DemiDevimon cackled: "Of course! Lord Myotismon is the immortal king of Digimon! No matter what you angels do, you can't kill him!"

As he laughed, a swarm of bats flew out of the castle, and gray mist emerged from the shattered mask—merging into a dark silhouette.

"Holy Arrow!"

Lucy instantly drew her bow and released an arrow of light.

Thud!

The shadow was struck and scattered into countless black specks.

But a moment later, the specks gathered again—reforming the dark silhouette.

Though still non-corporeal, the shadow spoke: "Heh heh... destiny is on my side. No one can destroy me!"

Lucy gritted her teeth. "This can't be happening..."

They had come so far, yet they couldn't completely eliminate him. And if left alone, he would surely come back—stronger and even harder to defeat.

What now?

Lucy could handle a standard Myotismon, but this one wasn't normal—he was the apex of his kind.

Moss spoke calmly: "If normal holy powers can't erase him, then let's use the power of time."

Lucy perked up in hope: "You have control over time?"

Shadow Myotismon shuddered at the idea. This cocky angel might look weaker than Lucy, but could she actually possess time-based powers?

If so, even his undead immortality wouldn't help him.

Moss shook her head. "No."

"Ugh..." Lucy's face fell.

Shadow Myotismon sighed in relief. Whew. That was close. Once he fully revives, he'll make them pay!

"Give me a bottle," Moss said to Astamon.

Astamon rummaged through his bag and handed over a pouch of Digimon jelly. "This all right?"

"It'll do."

Moss downed the jelly in one gulp.

Now! Myotismon lunged—thinking to take Moss hostage to buy time for his full revival. If Lucy kept shooting arrows at him, it'd delay his return to full power.

So he had to stop her.

Whap!

Moss lashed out with one of her wings, smashing Myotismon's shadowy hand mid-air.

"What!?" Myotismon was stunned.

Lucy had needed a special attack to hurt him earlier—but Moss had done it with just a wing!?

Was she actually stronger!?

No—impossible.

While Myotismon reeled in disbelief, Moss finished drinking and raised the empty pouch. She extended her finger and traced glowing characters in the air: Great Demon King Seal.

The glowing letters imprinted themselves onto the pouch.

Myotismon had no clue what she was doing, but instinctively sensed danger. If she was stronger than he'd thought and wielded such unknown techniques, he had to flee. He abandoned his castle and bolted for the nearby forest.

Once I recover, I'll return stronger than ever! he thought.

"Heh heh heh—"

"Evil Containment Wave!" Moss suddenly shouted behind him.

A chilling wind surged from behind, catching the shadow in a vortex.

"Wha—nooo!"

He spun uncontrollably before being sucked into the narrow opening of the pouch.

Click!

Moss screwed the lid shut.

"Sealed?" Lucy blinked—then burst out laughing.

The all-powerful, self-proclaimed king of Digimon had just been sealed… in a snack pouch?

Ultimate humiliation.

Which meant—ultimate satisfaction.

"Nice work," Lucy said. "Let him stew in there for eternity."

Moss nodded. "Endless time in that seal will wear down his mind and strength. Perhaps even immortality fades when years stretch infinitely."

"So that's what you meant by the power of time!" Lucy said, enlightened.

She then turned toward DemiDevimon.

The little bat trembled. "I surrender!"

Lucy, now in Gatomon form, narrowed her eyes. "You're not faking surrender so you can rescue Myotismon, are you?"

He broke into a cold sweat. That was his plan.

"You are!" Gatomon growled, claws raised.

"N-no—I swear!" DemiDevimon begged.

"Let him go," Moss said with a soft smile.

Gatomon hesitated. "Seriously?"

DemiDevimon was overwhelmed. "Angel of mercy!" he cried, almost in tears.

Gatomon remained skeptical. "Why?"

Moss answered: "His loyalty to Myotismon is… admirable. He'd even die for him. Right?"

DemiDevimon nodded fiercely. "Yes, absolutely!"

"Touching," Moss said. "And for that loyalty, I'll leave Myotismon's fate in your hands."

"What?!"

"If you behave, I'll give him to you. His freedom depends on your performance," Moss said sweetly.

"Y-you'd really trust me with that?!"

Moss beamed. "Can you carry that responsibility?"

"I can!" DemiDevimon said with conviction.

Gatomon and Wizardmon exchanged bewildered glances.

What is going on?

Moss smiled. "Good! That's the spirit! You're already 1% closer to rescuing Myotismon!"

Progress bar: 1%

DemiDevimon lit up.

"By the way," Moss added, "Myotismon kept rambling about destiny. I didn't know he was that into prophecy. You know what that's about?"

"Oh yeah," DemiDevimon said. "He had an ancient prophecy tablet!"

Gatomon's eyes narrowed. I knew nothing about that. And he did?

Soon after, DemiDevimon led the group to Myotismon's study in the castle.

Moss browsed the shelves—filled with ancient texts, bestiaries, even magical books—until she found a thick tome. Tucked inside was a sheet of parchment.

It was Myotismon's translated prophecy:

"Myotismon shall turn the human world into darkness and merge it with the Digital World, becoming king of both."

"Though opposed by angels, when bats fill the skies and the people chant the name of the Undying King, and when the number of Digimon reaches 666, Myotismon will resurrect and reign supreme."

Lucy's voice sounded in Moss's mind: "No wonder he kept saying destiny favored him."

Moss replied via telepathy: "But this ending is different from the prophecy I know."

"Oh? What's yours say?"

Moss answered: "It says: When the angels shoot arrows toward those whom their partners love, miracles will occur."

That miracle referred to the birth of Omnimon from WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon.

This was recorded in Digimon Adventure.

Clearly, both the Digidestined and Myotismon had access to prophetic visions—yet the contents they received were different in subtle but crucial ways.

Which begs the question… Who originally wrote the prophecy on this tablet?

Was it an ancient Digimon with prophetic powers?
