"Seraphina's back! Come on, try the salmon Mom made. It's delicious!"
Mrs. Frost ran out of the kitchen excitedly, wearing an apron.
They looked like such a happy family, as if they were the real deal.
I felt a bit nauseous and couldn't help but rush to the bathroom to retch.
Jade was shocked.
"Seraphina, you're not pregnant, are you?"
"Don't joke around, Jade," Mrs. Frost said, then fell silent.
The air suddenly became awkward. Fletcher stood up.
"Mom, I'm going out to buy some cigarettes."
I wiped the corner of my mouth.
"This is my house. You get out. All of you, get out."
"Fletcher and I are getting a divorce. Aunt, please know your place."
"Seraphina, what nonsense are you talking about now? You and Fletcher should live happily together. After Jade has the baby, she'll even help take care of it for you."
Jade looked uncomfortable.
"Seraphina, I don't have much time left. After five years, I'll give Fletcher back to you." I stepped forward to speak, but Dane's voice came from behind. He appeared at my doorstep, holding a carton of milk in one hand and a gift box in the other.
"You left these at my place. I'm here to return them to you."
"Seraphina, so you're divorcing Fletcher for him! You fickle woman, how could you do this to my son?"
"Aunt, maybe Seraphina really is pregnant. That baby in her belly might just be this homewrecker's!"
Jade chimed in with her snide remarks, adding fuel to the fire.
Mrs. Frost, upon hearing this, lunged at me. I couldn't dodge in time and fell to the ground.
The pain made me black out. When I regained consciousness, there was a ringing in my ears.
"The patient is out of danger now, but she'll need to stay for observation."
I opened my eyes slightly, staring blankly at the ceiling above me.
"Cutie pie, you're awake!"
It had been a while since I'd heard that name. My eyes instantly welled up with tears.
I turned my head, trying to speak, but no sound came out.
"Seraphina, don't worry. Mom and Dad are here now. No one will ever bully you again!" Back then, I gave up the chance to study abroad in order to stay in the country and attend the same university as Fletcher.
I had a huge argument with my family. Dad didn't approve of me being with Fletcher, but still let me inherit the family business.
Even so, they continued to support me as always.
The ones who love you most will always be your family.
Seeing my dejected expression, Dane repeatedly tried to comfort me.
"Seraphina, don't be heartbroken over that guy anymore."
"The doctor said you fainted from emotional distress. Your liver qi is stagnant from the sudden shock and you couldn't handle the stress."
"If I had known you were struggling so much out there! If I did, Mom would never have let you stubbornly marry him!"
I didn't say anything, intending to close my eyes and rest a bit more, when an unexpected visitor barged into the hospital room.
