The penthouse felt colder than usual when Bella arrived. She stepped out of the elevator, her heels clicking against the marble floors. Marco stood near the entrance, giving her a nod as he gestured towards the office where Roberto waited.
"Good luck," Marco muttered as she passed him. She didn't respond, her focus solely on the man waiting behind the door.
Bella pushed the door open and found Roberto standing by the window, his back to her, staring out over the city he controlled. The silence stretched between them, heavy and tense. Neither spoke for several long seconds.
Finally, Roberto broke the silence, his voice quiet but deadly. "Why are you here, Bella?"
Bella crossed the room, her heart pounding but her resolve firm. "We need to talk."
He turned slowly, his eyes meeting hers with a coldness that sent a shiver down her spine. The man she had married was long gone, replaced by this calculating figure, this monster she had helped create.
"So talk," Roberto said, his voice laced with disdain.
Bella took a deep breath. "I know about Sofia. I know she's dead."
Roberto's expression didn't change. "She was a traitor. I did what I had to do."
Bella's fists clenched at her sides. "She was only a traitor because you used her. You pushed her, just like you've pushed everyone else. And now it's caught up with you."
Roberto's eyes narrowed. "Is that why you're here? To lecture me about morality? Don't pretend you're innocent in all of this, Bella. You've been playing your own game this entire time."
Bella's heart raced, her anger bubbling to the surface. "You think you can control everything, Roberto. But you're losing control. You've already lost."
Roberto took a step closer, his presence overwhelming, but Bella didn't flinch. "You've always underestimated me," he said, his voice a low growl. "You think you're in control, but you're not. You never were."
Bella's breath caught in her throat as the tension between them thickened, but she stood her ground. "You're right," she whispered. "I wasn't in control. But I am now."
For the first time, uncertainty in Roberto's eyes, but it was gone as quickly as it had appeared. "What are you talking about?"
Bella stepped closer, her voice calm but deadly. "Everything you've built, everything you think you've secured, it's all coming down. Vito, my family, the alliances you thought you had? They're gone. You're standing on a crumbling empire, and you don't even realize it."
Roberto's jaw tightened, his eyes flashing with anger. "You think you can take me down? I've survived worse threats than you, Bella."
Bella's lips curled into a bitter smile. "It's not just me, Roberto. You've made too many enemies. And now, they're all coming for you."
Roberto took a step back, his mind racing. For the first time in a long time, he felt something he hadn't allowed himself to feel, fear.
Bella saw it, and it gave her strength. "You should've seen this coming. You should've known that betraying me was your biggest mistake."
Roberto's fists clenched, his face a mask of barely contained rage. "You're playing with fire, Bella. And you're going to get burned."
Bella's eyes didn't waver. "Maybe. But at least I'll take you down with me."
The silence between them was electric, the tension almost unbearable. Bella could feel her pulse racing, but she didn't back down. She wouldn't. Not now.
Finally, Roberto spoke, his voice low and dangerous. "Get out."
Bella didn't move. She stood there for a moment longer, letting the weight of her words sink in. Then, without another word, she turned and walked out of the room, leaving Roberto alone with his crumbling empire.
As the door closed behind her, Roberto stood there, staring at the empty space where Bella had stood. The woman who had once been his ally was now his greatest threat. And for the first time, Roberto realized that he might not survive this war after all.
