Chapter 26: Group Training
Grey Wolf was completely covered in dirt. He was still just a half-grown wolf pup—why did he have to be the one to lure the wild boar? Just because he could run fast? Did that automatically make him bait? Had no one noticed how huge and powerful the boar was? One wrong move, and a single charge could shatter his bones!
But no—everyone, including his so-called master Kazama, had agreed to this absurd plan.
Someone explain to him why boars were so absurdly strong and fast.
He barely dodged another deadly charge, his heart pounding. He couldn't afford to slow down for even a second—he needed to reach Point 3, and fast. Usually, it only took a minute, but now, every second counted.
The wild boar, relying on sheer brute force, rampaged like a runaway tank, smashing through every obstacle in its path as if they were nothing.
Point 3 was finally in sight. Grey Wolf summoned all his remaining strength, focusing chakra into his legs to unleash his maximum speed. He locked onto the marker, pushed off with his hind legs, and leapt high into the air, clearing the designated point.
The boar, blinded by rage and vengeance, had only one thought:
You pissed me off. You're dead. Jump all you want—I'll still ram you out of the sky!
But boars weren't built for jumping—all it could do was charge forward with unstoppable momentum.
Then, suddenly—its front legs sank into nothingness.
The boar's massive body pitched forward, its own momentum dragging it down as it flipped through the air and crashed directly into the hidden pitfall trap.
Hundreds of pounds of raw muscle slammed into sharpened wooden stakes, impaling its body with a sickening crunch.
A bloodcurdling scream echoed through the forest, scattering flocks of birds into the sky. The boar struggled violently, but the deeply embedded stakes held it fast. Every movement only amplified its pain.
It was doomed.
Kazama lowered his bow, relieved. The plan had been executed perfectly, and he hadn't even needed to fire a single arrow as a safety measure.
He and his summoning beasts gathered around the pit, watching the boar's final moments without the slightest discomfort.
Meanwhile, the three wolf pups were already debating which part of the boar to eat first.
"Ears don't count," Black Wolf declared. "There's barely any meat. That's just an appetizer."
Kazama glanced at them and then addressed his team.
"Who's going to finish it off?"
He wanted his summoning beasts to develop their killing instincts. They would all see battle one day, and they needed to learn how to end a fight.
Kutarou had already mastered the clean kill—his metal claws could slice through flesh like butter. Yataro had honed his crossbow skills, ensuring if one shot wasn't enough, he'd fire another without hesitation.
The three wolf pups, however, hesitated.
They weren't sure how to deliver a fatal strike. Their teeth were still developing, good for chewing meat, but not sharp enough to pierce the boar's thick hide.
And the boar wasn't dead yet—it wasn't going to just sit there and let them bite it.
After a brief standoff, Grey Wolf stepped forward.
Even though he didn't know how to kill the boar, as the eldest of the three, he had to take responsibility.
Kazama could tell they were struggling. They were still young, and their natural weapons weren't fully developed. But they needed to start somewhere—even if they couldn't execute a perfect kill, they had to learn how to attack effectively.
"Use your teeth. Use your claws. It doesn't matter how—just learn how to harm your target."
Kazama had noticed that their reliance on him had softened their instincts. They never had to hunt for food, and they never had to fight for survival.
That had to change.
"You three—attack together."
No more discussion. It was time to act.
The wolf pups reluctantly leapt into the pit, first removing the unused stakes to avoid injuring themselves. Then, they lunged at the boar's hindquarters, sinking their teeth into its thick, muscular flesh.
The boar let out a pathetic whimper, its body barely able to resist anymore.
It wasn't a gruesome slaughter—it was more like three puppies gnawing on a massive ham.
Kazama sat down, watching their efforts with mild amusement.
"Focus your chakra into your fangs and claws. It'll increase your damage output."
They had awakened chakra, but their control was still crude. If they could concentrate chakra into their attacks, they would be far more effective hunters.
He had theorized about chakra control for years. His belief was that, much like taijutsu, chakra control was a skill that improved with practice.
Sure, people had different starting points, but hard work always paid off.
Even Naruto, whose chakra control was terrible, had managed to master the Rasengan—a technique that required extremely precise chakra manipulation.
So there was no reason these wolves couldn't improve.
Grey Wolf tried channeling chakra into his claws. He swiped at the boar's hide—only for the blow to glance off harmlessly.
All he accomplished was raising the boar's pitch by a few octaves.
"Again."
Clearly, Grey Wolf's chakra infusion was too weak. It boosted his strength, but not his sharpness. That would take trial and error.
Scratch!
Yelp!
Tear!
Whimper!
The sound of claws scraping against thick hide mixed with the boar's dying cries. The struggle continued until the boar finally succumbed to its wounds and blood loss.
Kazama hopped into the pit, sealed the corpse into a scroll, and sighed.
They couldn't waste time cleaning the area—other predators might smell the blood and come sniffing around. It was safer to process the meat back at the treehouse.
The wolf pups' paws and jaws were swollen from overexertion, but they would heal quickly—probably after a good night's sleep.
Kazama had seen plenty of puppies destroy shoes and furniture during their teething phase. This was just a training exercise to prevent future property damage.
Hunting had become more than just a way for Kazama to make money—it was now an essential training regimen for his summoning beasts.
Today's new training was fishing—but not just any fishing.
They would practice standing on water while catching fish.
Kazama had already mastered tree climbing, so he figured it was time to train on water walking. If he was going to rely on summoning beasts, he needed to be prepared for both land and water battles.
For Kazama, water walking wasn't too difficult—it just took some getting used to.
For his summoning beasts?
That was another story entirely.
Unlike humans, they had four legs instead of two. Kazama's experience wouldn't necessarily apply to them.
He could explain the theory, but ultimately, they had to figure it out on their own.
"Alright, everyone," Kazama said, standing on the surface of the lake.
"Time for the next phase of training—don't sink."
