Haruto vs. The Goddess of Surveillance (Maximum Suffering Edition)

Haruto had faced many hardships in his life. Accidentally becoming the Demon King? Sure. Surviving divine smites from a literal Goddess? Been there, done that. Being constantly pursued by a crazy harem he never wanted? Unfortunately, yes.

But this—this was the worst.

Vellaria. The Goddess of Order. Was watching him.

Every. Single. Moment.

Haruto woke up in his bed, something immediately feeling wrong. He was being watched. He could feel it. Slowly, hesitantly, he turned his head.

Vellaria was sitting two feet away, arms crossed, staring at him.

"AAAAAAAAAHHHH!!"

"Good morning."

"WHY ARE YOU HERE?!"

"I am conducting divine surveillance."

Haruto threw a pillow at her. It passed through her like mist.

"I have no physical form at the moment. It is more efficient this way."

"IT'S CREEPY, THAT'S WHAT IT IS!"

Haruto scrambled out of bed and sprinted to the bathroom, locking the door behind him. He pressed his back against it, breathing heavily.

Safe. Finally safe.

…Or so he thought.

Vellaria appeared next to him.

"WHAT. THE. HELL?!"

"You locked the door. That was illogical. I am an omnipresent deity."

"THEN WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE HERE?! IN HERE?!"

"Your anomaly could manifest in new ways at any moment. I must observe all conditions."

"I SWEAR TO EVERY GOD, GET OUT!"

"No."

She did not blink.

She did not look away.

She was witnessing everything.

Haruto screamed.

---

After finally escaping the horror of divine bathroom surveillance, Haruto thought he could at least find privacy elsewhere. He was wrong.

The moment he stepped into the toilet, Vellaria appeared behind him.

"I WILL JUMP OUT THE WINDOW."

"That is unnecessary."

"THIS IS THE ONE PLACE I DESERVE PRIVACY."

"Incorrect. Privacy is irrelevant to anomaly monitoring."

"I REFUSE TO LET A GODDESS WATCH ME DO THIS."

"You are being overly dramatic."

"I AM BEING NORMAL! YOU ARE BEING A DIVINE PEEPING TOM!"

From outside, Lilia's voice called out.

"Oh my~! My dear husband, are you struggling in there? Shall I assist you~?"

"GO AWAY!"

Vellaria remained standing there. Unmoving. Unrelenting.

"You are already under my observation. There is no need for additional monitoring."

"THAT IS NOT THE POINT!"

---

Haruto was exhausted. He just wanted to sleep. He dragged himself to his bed, ready to collapse, only to realize something was wrong.

The bed was occupied.

Vellaria was already lying there.

"You have returned. Good."

"…No."

"This is my observation post."

"THAT'S MY BED."

"Correction. It was your bed. It is now optimal divine monitoring space."

"I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE."

Haruto grabbed his blanket and moved to the floor.

Vellaria watched him silently.

"That location is inefficient. You will suffer discomfort."

"I WOULD SUFFER MORE IF I SLEPT NEXT TO YOU!"

The door slammed open.

Lilia stood there, beaming.

"Oh my~! My dear husband is finally taking women into his bed~!"

"GET OUT, LILIA!"

"This is not a romantic arrangement. It is divine surveillance."

"That's what they all say~."

Haruto screamed into his pillow.

---

That was it. He was done.

Under the cover of night, Haruto grabbed his bag and ran for the mountains.

He ran past the palace guards.

He ran past the marketplace.

He ran past the forest and into the wild.

Finally.

Finally, peace.

He collapsed onto the grass, looking up at the sky.

"She can't find me here… I am free."

A shadow loomed over him.

He slowly turned his head.

Vellaria was sitting beside him.

"Your behavior was anticipated. I arrived before you did."

Haruto let out the longest, most soul-crushing scream in human history.

---

Haruto lay face-down in the dirt, completely defeated.

Vellaria sat next to him, watching. Unblinking.

"I HATE EVERYTHING."

"This was an expected outcome."

"THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU STOP ME?!"

"Observing your inevitable failure was more efficient."

Haruto gave up on life.
