Chapter 47 – Chains of the Past, Flames of the Future

The silence in the fortress was deceptive. It wasn't the silence of peace, but of something waiting to break.

Kuragami sat on his throne, his posture relaxed, yet the air around him was suffocating. Shadows pulsed from his body, creeping across the dark stone floor like living things.

In front of him, kneeling, was the 6th Strongest Demon—Selphira, the Demoness of Greed.

Her golden chains had been shattered.

Her once-pristine form was ruined—blood dripping from her lips, her regal dress torn, her eyes staring at the ground. Yet, despite everything, there was still pride in her gaze.

Kuragami leaned forward, his violet eyes glowing with an unreadable expression.

"Tell me, Selphira… do you regret kneeling?"

Her lips curled into a smirk, even as blood dripped from her mouth.

"Regret? No. But I never thought I'd serve someone worse than the Demon King himself."

Kuragami's smirk mirrored hers.

"Worse?" He stood up, slowly descending the steps of his throne. The room felt smaller, darker, heavier with every step he took. "Selphira… you still don't understand, do you?"

Selphira met his gaze, her golden eyes narrowing.

"What don't I understand?"

Kuragami knelt before her, his face inches from hers. His eyes shifted—deep crimson.

"You think I'm worse than my father?" His voice was almost a whisper, yet it carried the weight of something monstrous. "You think this is cruelty?"

Selphira shivered. For the first time in her life, she felt fear.

Kuragami reached out and gently grasped her chin, forcing her to hold his gaze. His fingers were cold—too cold, too unnatural.

"I am not worse than my father." His grip tightened. "I am something he could never be."

The shadows in the room twisted violently, reacting to his emotions.

"A true demon is not one who conquers through fear alone. A true demon is one who bends even the strongest to his will and makes them call it their own choice."

Selphira's breath caught.

Kuragami released her. She collapsed forward, coughing, trying to understand why her body refused to defy him.

And then… she laughed.

A broken, breathless laugh.

"I see now." Her voice was hoarse. "You're not worse. You're just… beyond anything I've ever known."

Kuragami smiled.

He turned to Saphira, who had been watching silently.

"Take her to the training grounds. If she's to serve me, she must be reforged."

Saphira nodded, but before she could step forward, Selphira spoke again.

"Prince Kuragami."

He stopped.

Selphira raised her gaze, golden eyes burning.

"You are truly terrifying."

Kuragami didn't answer. He didn't need to.

He simply turned away.

The Gathering of the Nine

Deep within the fortress, Kuragami sat alone in his personal chamber.

A large black mirror stood before him, swirling with shadows. This was no ordinary mirror.

It was a gate.

A link to something far beyond this world.

Kuragami raised his hand, his golden eyes flashing—and the mirror rippled.

One by one, the Nine Strongest Demons appeared in the reflection.

They were the rulers of hell's factions. Each stronger than a god, feared by even the highest celestial beings.

And yet…

They all knelt.

"Prince Kuragami."

Their voices echoed through the chamber.

Kuragami's eyes burned with cold amusement.

"You all serve my father. That ends today."

Silence.

The demons did not move. They did not breathe.

"You will follow me." His voice was soft, but the weight of it made the very air feel like chains. "Or you will be erased."

One of the demons, the 5th Strongest, finally spoke.

"And what do you offer us, Prince?"

Kuragami's smile widened.

"The one thing my father never could." His purple eyes glowed—powerful, undeniable.

"Victory."

The mirror shattered.

And the room plunged into darkness.
