Chapter 2

In her heart, I apparently held no place at all.

After four years of marriage, having given her so much, I couldn't even compare to a long-lost childhood sweetheart.

I spent several days in the hospital, and during that time, Scarlett even didn't make a single phone call to me.

It seems she's been having a great time with Nash these past few days, completely forgetting about her husband.

Just as I was about to get some rest, my phone suddenly rang.

The word "darling" on the caller ID felt like a stab in my eyes.

After hesitating for a while, I finally answered.

As soon as I picked up, her sobs came through the receiver.

I anxiously asked her what was wrong.

Scarlett said she wanted to make soup for me, but burned her hand, and it was hurting badly now.

In that moment, I forgot about my recent surgery and immediately went out to catch a cab home.

When I got home, I saw her lying on the couch, not looking injured at all.

"Honey, you're home? I'm craving your chicken soup. What's that on your eye, is it a new look?"

As she spoke, she put an apron on me and pushed me into the kitchen.

In all the years I've been with Scarlett, I've never let her cook. All I needed was her to crave something, and I'd go learn how to make it from others, then prepare it for her.

The doctor said I shouldn't be exposed to cooking fumes for a while, as it could hinder my wound healing.

I came out of the kitchen and explained to Scarlett that I had just had surgery and couldn't cook.

As soon as I finished speaking, her expression changed abruptly. Still, she held back her anger and said coyly that she just wanted to drink some soup I made.

Then she touched my face and gave me a kiss.

I can never resist her when she's like this, so I put on an apron and went into the kitchen.

As soon as I lit the stove, my eyes started stinging and tearing up non-stop.

Enduring the discomfort, I finally finished making the soup for her.

As I was about to bring it out, I heard her on the phone outside.

"Nash, I've made your favorite chicken soup. I'll bring it over to you in a bit, just wait for me."

My hand slipped, and the scalding chicken soup spilled all over the floor.
