Chapter 18: The First Strike

Kael's fist connected—not with the Eradicator's body, but with the space it occupied.

Aetheris flared, sending a shockwave rippling outward.

The Eradicator's form wavered. Just for a moment.

But that moment was enough.

The stranger's voice cut through the tension. "That confirms it. Your mark disrupts the fabric of existence itself."

Kael barely had time to process that. The Eradicator shifted, flickering back into focus.

It hadn't been damaged. But it had been interrupted.

A voice echoed in his mind. Cold. Absolute.

"Anomaly persists. Adjusting parameters."

Kael's heart pounded. It was adapting.

The stranger's stance shifted. "If we're doing this, let's do it properly." They flicked their wrist, and in an instant, a name burned into Kael's thoughts.

Aelyth Varian.

The stranger had a name.

And Kael had a feeling it wasn't their real one.

Aelyth smirked. "Try not to die, kid."

Before Kael could respond, they moved.

Their body blurred, twisting through the air with inhuman precision. A golden sigil burned at their fingertips—an ancient crest Kael didn't recognize.

"Sundered Veil: Fifth Invocation."

The air tore apart. A fissure of golden energy lashed out, aimed directly at the Eradicator.

For the first time, it reacted.

A ripple of distortion shredded the ground as it countered, colliding with Aelyth's attack. The resulting shockwave obliterated everything within meters.

Kael barely managed to shield himself. Dust and debris rained down, but his gaze never left the battlefield.

This wasn't just a fight.

This was a battle between forces that shouldn't exist.

And somehow, he was at the center of it.

The Mark of Aetheris pulsed again, a whisper echoing in his mind.

A name. A place.

Veyrith's Fall.

The words sent a shiver down his spine.

He didn't know why.

But something told him he'd find answers there.
