Chapter 19

Varian walked out of the library with Hugo, Quirin and Rapunzel behind him, his blue hair streak and eyes glowing with fury toward Ulla. "Mother!" He demanded angrily in the courtyard of the library, seeing she never made it past the gates. Ulla turned in terror, she thought she would never hear his son's voice again after leaving him to die. "Moonlight!! How did you survive??" She asked nervously. "I had the Sundrop, now it's your time to fall, for good." Varian enunciated in frustration as his hair turned completely blue. "You want me to be the bad guy? Fine, now I'm the bad guy.." Ulla declared. The showdown was thrilling, Varian's moon powers, Hugo's alchemy, Quirin's knight skills and Rapunzel's frying pan clashed beautifully with Ulla's dark magic, Varian even managed to trap Ulla in a cage of black rocks. But since Ulla was unbreakable due to the Moonstone in her possession, none of the blows from Varian's black rocks, Hugo's alchemical solutions or Quirin's sword affected her, she could defend herself, she just waited for the perfect moment to strike. She was able to shatter the cage and now, it was her turn. "Wither and decay, end this destiny, break these earthly chains, and set the spirit free." Ulla began to chant as the blue moon above them blackened and the ground around her began to die, everyone except for Varian started to gasp for air with the effects of the Hurt Incantation in play. Ulla repeated it and his friends just got weaker. Hugo even collapsed from the Incantation's power, and all of Varian's friends began becoming encased by black rocks. "Um.. Varian??!" Rapunzel called out. Varian looked around him and was consumed by his fear, the black rock turning red. "No! Stop it!" He cried. "It's not my presence that's hurting them Moonlight, it's yours." Ulla told him. "N-No, I don't want to hurt them!" Varian argued. "That is something you can't control Child, the Moonstone's purpose is destruction and pain." Ulla persuaded, "This is all you Son, I told you, you were made to be evil since the beginning.." Varian looked back at Hugo in horror as he watched the black rocks consume him. His heart sank at the sight, realizing that all he causes is death. But he knew that Ulla was trying to get into his mind again, and he fought it this time. "GET. OUT. OF. MY. HEAD!!!!" Varian screamed as he imprisoned Ulla in a spiral of black rocks, his moon powers surging as his eyes turned black. "Crescent high above, evolving as you go, raise what lies beneath and let the darkness grow, bend it to my will, consume the sunlight's glow, rise into the sky and let the darkness grow, let darkness grow!" Varian chanted as he made his mother extremely weak and took the shard of the Moonstone from her. He crushed it and Ulla fell unconscious as the moon turned blue once more and the sun began to rise. Varian's hair turned black again with his blue strand, as well as his normal eyes returning. In that moment, Varian fell to his knees in exhaustion, Hugo standing before him with a triumphant grin and he ran to embrace Varian. "Goggles, you were so fricking awesome!" Hugo commented as they hugged. "It was nothing!" Varian joked as they laughed while Hugo slightly pulled away. But Hugo's guilt took over as he became a little vulnerable, "Varian I.. I'm so sorry, I didn't plan to truly become your friend, but when I did, I didn't want to go through Donella's stupid plan after, but she threatened to leave me on the streets again and I just, I was such an idiot and.." Hugo explained, but Varian interrupted and admitted, "I love you too.." TO BE CONTINUED..
