After Dinner.
After dinner, Dongbo Xueying sat together with his younger brother, Qingshi, along with Zong Ling and Tong San. Dongbo Xueying took out a crystal sphere, about the size of a watermelon, from a nearby bundle—this was something their mother had left behind.
"Brother, what is this? It's so pretty," Qingshi asked curiously.
Qingshi was an adorable child with delicate features. If Dongbo Xueying resembled their father more, then Qingshi took after their mother. It was easy to see that he would grow up to be a handsome young man—more so than Dongbo Xueying himself.
"Here, Shitou, place your hand on it," Dongbo Xueying instructed.
"Okay." Qingshi obediently placed his small hand on the crystal sphere.
As soon as his palm made contact, the natural mental fluctuations within his body triggered a reaction within the crystal. Immediately, a soft, crimson glow radiated from within, filling the entire room with its light.
Dongbo Xueying and the others all showed expressions of joy.
"Brother, why is it glowing?" Qingshi asked curiously.
"A Grand Mage! Come here, give me a kiss!" Dongbo Xueying laughed, hugging his younger brother and planting a happy kiss on his cheek.
Mages were different from knights.
Knights had to begin training from a young age—Long Wind Academy's admission requirement dictated that students could be no older than ten upon entry. Mages, however, followed the opposite path. They couldn't start training when they were too young. Those from well-off families typically began at ten, while some waited until they were sixteen or seventeen, or even over twenty. Long Wind Academy's age limit for mage admissions was as high as thirty years old.
Anyone under thirty could still be admitted.
This was because mages required deep thought and understanding, particularly when it came to the study of the soul. Training too early could be dangerous—if something went wrong, it could damage the soul, potentially leading to mental impairment. On the other hand, older students, with more life experience and maturity, had a stronger foundation. Some only began training at forty or fifty and still managed to achieve great success—even reaching the ranks of the Transcendent.
Time passed day by day.
In the blink of an eye, five years had gone by.
"Whoo, whoo, whoo~~~"
Goose-feather-like snowflakes drifted down from the sky.
A young man dressed in a simple black robe stood by the railing, gazing at the endless snowfall. His facial features were sharp and chiseled, like they had been carved by a blade. Years of rigorous training had given him an imposing aura—one that could make others instinctively uneasy. This was the presence of a true spear master.
"Brother!"
A boy bundled up in thick clothing called out loudly from a distance.
"Qingshi."
Dongbo Xueying smiled and leaped down from a height of over six meters, landing steadily in the thick snow below. Now that his younger brother had grown, Dongbo Xueying had changed the way he addressed him. Instead of using his childhood nickname, "Shitou," he now simply called him by his name—Qingshi.
"Brother, let's go to Yishui City for a bit! There's so much fun stuff to do there. Staying at home all the time is so boring," Dongbo Qingshi said excitedly.
"You can have Uncle Zong go with you," Dongbo Xueying replied with a smile.
"You always stay here in Snow Eagle Territory. You barely go into the city once a year. Don't you feel cooped up?" Qingshi muttered.
Dongbo Xueying simply smiled and said nothing.
His younger brother had almost no memories of their parents. He didn't remember the night they were taken away, and he lived a carefree life.
"I'm going to practice my fist techniques a little longer," Dongbo Xueying said as he took off his upper robe, revealing his bare torso. With clothes on, his strength wasn't as apparent, but the moment he removed them, his powerful, well-trained physique was on full display. Years of harsh training had honed his body to an astonishing level.
With that, he stepped into the snow and began practicing the Flame Three-Stage Technique—a battle qi technique that also incorporated a set of fist movements.

"Whoo, whoo, whoo~~~"
Goose-feather snowflakes drifted down endlessly.
A young man dressed in a simple black robe stood by the railing, watching the falling snow. His facial features were sharp and chiseled like a blade. Years of rigorous training had granted him a powerful aura—one that naturally unsettled others. This was the presence of a true spear master.
"Brother!"
A boy, bundled up in thick winter clothing, shouted from a distance.
"Qingshi."

His younger brother barely remembered their parents anymore. He didn't recall the night they were taken away. Now, he lived a carefree life.
"I'm going to train for a while," Dongbo Xueying said as he removed his upper robe, revealing his bare torso. With clothes on, his physique wasn't as apparent. But the moment he undressed, his astonishingly well-trained body was on full display.
Stepping into the snow, he began practicing the Flame Three-Stage Technique—a battle qi technique that also incorporated a set of fist movements.
Snowflakes landed on his skin, melting instantly.
Each move he performed sharpened his awareness of the world around him.
"Alright, you keep training! I'm going to play!" Qingshi called out as he ran off.
Dongbo Xueying remained in the swirling snowfall, practicing his techniques.
Each movement seemed slow, but his body's strength flowed like water—seamless and controlled.
At thirteen, his spear techniques had already reached the realm of "man and spear as one."
But that wasn't enough.
To become a true spear master, he had to achieve absolute control over every ounce of his strength. Only then could he finally master the first stage of the Ice Spear Technique—Drifting Snow.
For the past two years, he had focused heavily on refining his body—searching for that final breakthrough in complete physical harmony.
"I'm close."
Dongbo Xueying could faintly sense the threshold of true mastery.
He had been training with a spear since the age of six.
Now, in the winter of his fifteenth year, he had dedicated nearly ten years to his craft.
His relentless discipline surpassed what most warriors could achieve in twenty or even thirty years.
But something puzzled him.
"My spear technique is strong... but why haven't I generated battle qi yet?"
He picked up a long spear resting nearby and began to move.
The weapon seemed to become an extension of his body, moving as fluidly as a dragon.
Each thrust produced countless afterimages, and every sweeping strike carried an unstoppable force.
Based on normal training expectations:
He should have generated battle qi by age ten.By fifteen, he should have already reached the Earth-Tier Knight level.
But in reality?
He still hadn't awakened any battle qi!
Even so, neither Dongbo Xueying, Zong Ling, nor Tong San were disappointed.
Instead, they found the situation strange.
The fundamental principle of battle qi training was:
Absorb the world's natural energy to strengthen the body.
Once the body reached its limit, any excess energy would condense into battle qi.
Dongbo Xueying had already surpassed normal human limits by age ten.
Yet, for five more years, his body kept growing stronger—continuing to absorb energy instead of forming battle qi.
"Why is this happening?"
"My body is already ten times stronger than a normal person's… yet I'm still absorbing energy?"
Even Zong Ling and Tong San, who had seen many strange things in their lives, couldn't explain it.
Suddenly—
"BANG!"
Dongbo Xueying smashed his spear into the ground, striking the stone pavement beneath the snow.
The force rebounded, and with a swift motion, he thrust forward—
A terrifying whistle filled the air.
Then—he felt it.
Deep within his body—
A faint, itching sensation spread through his very bones.
"Huh?"
Dongbo Xueying immediately lowered his spear.
Every bone in his body felt strangely itchy.
Every muscle trembled as if something was changing.
Even with his immense endurance, the sensation made him feel unbearably uncomfortable.
Then, it turned to heat.
A searing, burning sensation spread through his entire body.
His bones felt like they were melting.
His skin turned deep red.
Beneath his skin—
A new layer of muscle fiber began to form—one stronger and more durable than before.
Around his bare torso, a crimson mist began to rise.
For a moment, within the swirling energy—
The faint image of a colossal, ancient giant emerged.
In that instant, Dongbo Xueying "saw" something.
A massive giant, clad in beast-hide, standing barefoot upon a desolate land—howling toward the heavens.
Then, the blood-colored mist vanished.
But inside him—
The transformation only intensified.
"ARGH!"
Dongbo Xueying could no longer suppress the pain.
He fell to his knees, hands pressing against the ground.
The heat radiating from his body was so intense—
The surrounding snow began to melt.
