Chapter 10: The Awakening

A pulse of raw energy rippled through the ruins as Belinda stepped forward, her heart hammering like a war drum. The shadows lunged, moving like a living tide, but she didn't falter. She raised her hand, and for the first time, she let the power within her rise freely.

A gust of silver light exploded from her fingertips, illuminating the night like a falling star. The air vibrated with an unseen force, and the shadows recoiled, hissing as if burned.

Callan turned to her, eyes wide with something close to awe. "Belinda"

But there was no time. The figures regrouped, swirling into an abyss of darkness, their cloaks fluttering unnaturally. Then, one of them stepped forward. Unlike the others, this one had form, a tall, imposing figure with a crown of black thorns and eyes that burned with an eerie blue light.

"You have awakened," the figure murmured, its voice a haunting melody of layered whispers. "At last."

Belinda clenched her fists, her breath unsteady. "Who are you?"

The figure tilted its head. "The question is not who I am, but who you are."

A cold chill ran down her spine. Before she could react, the shadows rushed her again. This time, she was ready. Instinct took over, guiding her movements like a forgotten memory returning to life. She dodged, spun, and unleashed another burst of magic that sent the figures stumbling back.

Callan was beside her in an instant, his blade flashing in the moonlight as he cut through the darkness. "We can't stay here," he warned.

The crowned figure didn't move. It simply watched. Waiting.

Belinda turned toward Callan, panting. "Then let's go."

Callan grabbed her hand, his grip firm, grounding her. Together, they ran, darting through the crumbling ruins as the shadows howled behind them. The archway they had stepped through only moments ago now loomed ahead, its swirling portal still open.

Belinda's pulse raced. She had no idea what lay on the other side. But one thing was certain.

The past she had forgotten was coming for her.

And this was only the beginning.!
