What is Daisy doing here?
While bustling about preparing dinner at Cornwall Castle, I noticed a child and was surprised to find it was Daisy.
"Um..." "This is a battlefield. It's no place for a child. It's dangerous. Who gave you permission to be here?" I said angrily, thinking of Daisy's safety. "I received permission from Hans-sama."
"This place is dangerous." "But I heard that the lord here has pledged loyalty to Lady Victoria, so there won't be any fighting here." "Even so, you never know what might happen in a war zone. It's not guaranteed to be completely peaceful." "Hans, why did you allow this?"
I asked Hans, who was standing nearby. "Of course, I tried to stop her. But once Daisy decides something, she can't be stopped. And when I heard her reason, I couldn't refuse." "What reason?"
"I heard that the Land Kingdom has a climate similar to the northern part of the Burk Kingdom. I thought there might be crops that are resistant to cold, so I came to find them." "Do your parents know about this?"
"Of course. My father and mother have long since given up on me, so there's absolutely no problem. Besides, I'm the third daughter, so nothing will be an issue back home." Daisy smiled brightly and said this.
I started to get a headache. She must have caused all sorts of trouble. I feel terrible for her parents.
"Hans-sama said this is a battlefield, but I'm also fighting. It's a battle against famine. If there's a crop that could be a good weapon against famine, I don't mind some danger." I was taken aback by Daisy's strong determination.
"Well, since you're already here, I suppose it can't be helped. So, did you find anything?" Daisy's face clouded slightly.
"It turns out the crops in the Land Kingdom are almost the same as in the northern part of the Burk Kingdom. I did purchase some different types of wheat." "I see. I hope it turns out to be useful."
"But I found something else that I'm not sure will be useful. I recently obtained two types of potatoes from the Eastern Continent. However, they don't seem to have taken root well in the Land Kingdom." With that, Daisy held out two potatoes.
"This long one is called a sweet potato. They say it's delicious when eaten, but it doesn't seem to grow well in the Land Kingdom and isn't widely available. And this round, bumpy potato is called a 'twice potato'. While it grows well in the Land Kingdom, eating it can cause stomach issues or dizziness, so it hasn't really taken hold."
I stared intently at the two potatoes. I know these potatoes. They're sweet potatoes and potatoes! "For some reason, I recognize these potatoes. I feel like I've seen them in a book somewhere." "This sweet potato has no toxins, and you can eat the skin and leaves. It grows well even in poor soil." "However..." Daisy looked at me with expectation.
"It's sensitive to cold. That's probably why it didn't grow in this region. It might be difficult to grow in the northern part of the Burk Kingdom as well." Hearing this, Daisy visibly drooped.
"As for the 'twice potato', its skin and sprouts are toxic. It's a weak poison, but eating the sprout part can cause diarrhea or dizziness. However, if you peel the skin thickly and remove the sprouts from the indented part, it can be eaten without problems. This potato also grows well in poor soil." "Is that so?" I nodded. "And this potato is very resistant to cold."
Daisy's eyes suddenly lit up. "Then this 'twice potato' can be cultivated in the northern part of the kingdom?" "That's right." Daisy jumped up with joy.
"I'll buy as many of these two potatoes as I can and return to the kingdom. I must research them immediately." "Will you buy the sweet potato too?" "Of course. It grows in poor soil in warm places. I'll send it to Hans-sama's family home and have them grow it. The southern region isn't exactly abundant in food either. These potatoes might be a salvation. Of course, I'll also research if they can be grown in the north."
Daisy stomped her feet, holding the potatoes in both hands.
"I can't stay here. I'm returning home. I've found two such wonderful weapons against famine. I'll crush famine myself!"
"I'll provide a wagon and escorts, so prepare properly before leaving—" I could only shout this to Daisy's back as she ran off, waving the potatoes in her hands.
