The next morning, the academy courtyard was buzzing with excitement. Word had spread about Evan's "upgraded" summon, and everyone wanted to see if the tiny skeleton could live up to the hype. Even Professor Grimshaw was there, watching with a skeptical expression.

Our opponent was none other than **Liam Hartwell**, the academy's top summoner. His summon, a massive fire wolf named Ember, was the stuff of legends. Ember's fiery mane flickered as it prowled the courtyard, its glowing eyes fixed on Skully.

"You sure about this, Skully?" I whispered as we stepped into the dueling ring. "That wolf looks like it could swallow you in one bite."

Skully waved a bony hand dismissively. *"Relax, Master. I've got this. Just follow my lead."*

Liam smirked, clearly unimpressed. "This is your big challenge, Evan? A skeleton that looks like it fell out of a closet?"

The crowd laughed, but Skully didn't seem bothered. He stepped forward, his rune-covered bones gleaming in the sunlight. *"Let's see if your wolf can handle a little bone-rattling action,"* he quipped.

The duel began with a blast of fire from Ember. Skully dodged with surprising agility, his tiny frame darting between the flames. He retaliated by summoning a swarm of glowing bones that circled Ember like a whirlwind, forcing the wolf to retreat.

"What the—?" Liam stared in disbelief. "Since when can skeletons do that?"

*"Since I got an upgrade,"* Skully replied, grinning. He snapped his fingers, and the bones converged into a massive skeletal hand that swatted Ember like a fly. The crowd gasped as the fire wolf tumbled across the courtyard.

But Liam wasn't done yet. He raised his hand, and Ember's flames intensified, forming a blazing shield around the wolf. "Let's see how your skeleton handles this!" he shouted.

Skully tilted his head, seemingly unimpressed. *"Fire? Really? That's so last season."* He clapped his hands, and a wave of icy energy erupted from his bones, extinguishing Ember's flames. The wolf yelped in surprise, its fiery mane reduced to a few flickering embers.

The crowd erupted into cheers as Skully struck a triumphant pose. Liam looked stunned, but he wasn't ready to give up. He muttered an incantation, and Ember began to grow, its body expanding until it was twice its original size.

"Now what?" I asked, my heart racing.

Skully shrugged. *"Bigger they are, harder they fall."* He leaped into the air, his bones glowing with a golden light. For a moment, he looked almost… heroic. Then he slammed into Ember with a bone-crunching impact, sending the wolf sprawling.

The duel ended with Liam conceding defeat, his pride as bruised as his summon. The crowd erupted into applause, and even Professor Grimshaw looked impressed.

"Well done, Evan," he said, nodding approvingly. "It seems your summon has… potential."

Skully hopped onto my shoulder, looking smug. *"Told you I was stronger than I looked."*
