Chapter 25: A Daughter Must Be Rich

Chapter 25: A Daughter Must Be Rich

A Fresh Start

When Shen Jiaoyue woke up, the first thing she noticed was the neatly arranged stack of contracts on the table in front of her. The very contracts that had consumed so much of her time and energy, the ones she had struggled to finalize, were now completely settled.

She blinked a few times, trying to process what she was seeing. It almost felt surreal. Had it really all been taken care of so easily? Just because of a few words from Xiao Cheng?

She turned her head slightly, realizing she had no idea that Xiao Cheng had also removed two people from the hotel earlier—people who might have soured her mood further.

"Now that everything is settled, do you feel relieved?" Xiao Cheng asked, leaning casually against the side of the table, his tone calm and reassuring.

Shen Jiaoyue exhaled deeply. "Yeah, much better..." She ran a hand through her hair, a hint of exhaustion still lingering in her expression. The past few days had been overwhelming, almost suffocating.

Xiao Cheng nodded, satisfied with her response. "What's your plan next?" He had been waiting for the right moment to bring up Sisi, their daughter, but he wanted to let Shen Jiaoyue speak first.

Without hesitation, she said, "I want to go to your place. See Sisi. I miss her so much."

Xiao Cheng was slightly surprised. He had been planning to invite her himself, but hearing her express it on her own made him smile slightly.

"Alright, let's head back. We can eat together too."

At the mention of food, Shen Jiaoyue's eyes brightened. "The food you cook... it's really something special. I've missed it too." She chuckled softly, but there was genuine nostalgia in her voice.

Xiao Cheng glanced at her, amused. "It's just food."

"You say that, but after tasting what you make, everything else feels so bland."

With that, Shen Jiaoyue quickly got ready, and they made their way down to the underground garage.

The Ride Home

As they walked toward Xiao Cheng's car, Shen Jiaoyue's steps suddenly slowed.

"You... you really..." Her voice trailed off as she stared at the vehicle in front of her—a sleek, black Lamborghini.

A sports car? She had suspected Xiao Cheng was more than he let on, but this was another level.

She recalled how, before all this, she had tried to investigate Xiao Cheng's background, only to find very little information. Now, standing here, it felt ridiculous that she had ever doubted his capabilities.

Without saying another word, she got into the passenger seat, shaking her head slightly.

Xiao Cheng didn't respond to her unspoken thoughts. He simply started the engine, the low rumble filling the underground garage. With a light press of the accelerator, the car glided out effortlessly.

But the moment they hit the road, Shen Jiaoyue felt her heart leap into her throat.

"Be careful!!" she shouted in alarm.

The Lamborghini had already surged forward, accelerating at a terrifying pace.

"Ah! Slow down, slow down!" she yelled, gripping her seatbelt tightly.

Xiao Cheng, on the other hand, remained completely unfazed. His hands rested lightly on the steering wheel as he smoothly maneuvered the car through the bustling city streets.

"You were the one who said you wanted to see Sisi as soon as possible," he remarked, a hint of teasing in his voice.

"Not at the cost of my life!" Shen Jiaoyue shot back, her knuckles white from holding onto the side of the seat.

Xiao Cheng sighed lightly but eased off the accelerator, bringing the car back to a more comfortable speed.

A few moments passed in silence.

Then, to Xiao Cheng's surprise, Shen Jiaoyue muttered, "Sorry... I didn't know you were such a good driver."

Xiao Cheng smirked but didn't say anything. He knew how hard it was for her to admit things like that.

After a while, she finally spoke again. "How is Sisi's place? If she's not comfortable or if she's having a hard time, I can make some arrangements. My daughter has to be rich, you know."

Xiao Cheng glanced at her out of the corner of his eye before shrugging slightly. "Oh."

It took Shen Jiaoyue a second to realize how ridiculous her concern was. Xiao Cheng had wealth beyond what she could imagine. Of course, their daughter would have everything she needed and more.

She shook her head, laughing at herself. Maybe it was time to start trusting him a little more.
