How to Get Eaten By Monsters: A Guide by Harold, Part 3

Insects in this world were one of the highest threats and for a simple reason. Their overwhelming numbers and their strength.

Combining these two factors made them the deadliest threat in the world. If it was not for their love of caverns and deep places which meant humanity could easily pinpoint where they could be, there was a high chance that the world could have ended.

"Run!" Harold yelled and picked up the two people by his side and activated his skill.

"[Dash]" he breathed in and felt the MP leave his body and he instantly accelerated.

His reason for not worrying about the two other people was simple. They were stronger than him in close quarters.

To prove that, despite the head start he had when he started running away, Jade and Liam had already caught up with him and the three of them were now running side by side.

"Liam! What do we do?" Floria yelled and Harold risked turning back to see just what exactly they were running from.

Spiders. Extremely large spiders with jaws that could crush rocks and human bodies with ease from just the slightest grip.

Their bodies were large, probably up to a meter or two from his observations. A monster's size was not necessarily an indication of its strength but the bigger the monster, the more dangerous it was.

Luckily, their bodies were still partially buried under the rocks that made up the floor. But it wouldn't hold for long, that much Harold knew.

"Floria, used your magic to increase the strength of the rocks. That's the only thing stopping them. Jasmine, please buff us as much as you can; don't worry about MP consumption. Harold, run as fast as you can, Jade and I will do something if any monsters appear!" Liam yelled and Harold nodded before he sensed something that made his face go pale.

'Damn it. Why didn't I think of it? If a monster like the spider was forced aboveground, it obviously means that the other monsters in this floor would be panicking too.' Harold swore under his breath and called out to Liam.

"Liam! Monsters are closing in on us! We have to change directions!" Harold yelled and Liam nodded before accelerating to the front and swerved to the left.

Harold was a bit speechless as he did not even tell Liam what direction to move in yet he found the most suitable one by himself.

'He's impressive.' Harold noted the man's skills and closed his eyes.

The Perception stat was a stat that affected the user's senses, intuition and all other things related to those two. Those who increased their Perception to the max were said to be able to see into the future without any need for magic.

Harold's perception was the only special thing about him and he decided to use it to the fullest.

Splitting only a portion of his attention to running, the rest of his mind took in the surrounding environment and everything that was happening in it and sent the data to his brain.

"D-rank monsters approaching on our right! Floria, cast a binding spell. Jade, finish it off." Harold yelled and the two he called out were stunned but only for a moment.

"O woods of everlasting vitality. Heed my call and bind my enemies." Floria chanted and woods emerged from the ground and shot towards the approaching monster.

Floria felt her spell hit the target and was about to call out to Jade when he rushed forward and in a few quick slashes, the monster fell to the ground in pieces.

"Jasmine! We're coming up on a group of poisonous mushrooms, probably around C-rank. Please use all your detoxification spells." Harold called out and Jasmine nodded and a bright light rose from her staff and covered all of them.

Immediately after, a dark green fog emerged from nowhere and enveloped them. For a moment, Harold felt his insides swirl before a warm and pleasant sensation dispelled that feeling.

'Next' Harold was still cautious of the monsters that started the whole thing but since he had not sensed anything from them, he decided to leave them for later.

'Still, this is too much.' Harold did not see it with his eyes but it was almost like every single monster in the floor was swarming in their direction.

Worse, he could not sense any other adventurer asides from them so no possible help was coming.

'A C-rank Werewolf? We'll have to avoid it.' Harold detected a monster about a dozen meters ahead and opened his mouth to warn the others when his body felt like it had been soaked in a bucket of ice.

Death. Harold had faced it many times and he knew just how intense this one was. It was even superior to the time that he was almost killed by monsters when he was younger.

Under this pressure, Harold's body knew what to do and for a moment, it was almost like everything slowed down in his perception.

'What is this?' Harold thought for a moment before shaking it off and focusing his mind on the environment.

'First take in your current situation.' Harold and his party had run randomly so he had no idea where they were currently at.

Trees surrounded them from all angles but the fact that the fake sun was still shining meant that they had not accidentally ran into the wrong floor.

'If I'm still on the first floor, it means that we still have a shot at escaping.' Harold did not know why there where no other adventurers in the floor but there had to be some in the higher areas at least.

'Finally, what exactly is producing that threat of death.' He spread his mind into the surrounding area but found nothing that could produce such an intense fear.

'The only thing we've encountered that could do that was the spider and that-!' Harold realized something and checked the location where they left the spider at.

It was empty. The spider had crushed the rocks binding it and was nowhere to be found.

'Where is it?' Harold whipped his head around several times but still failed to find a trace of it.

'Arrrgghhh!' Harold was about to continue looking when a sharp pain assaulted his head and the stilled world slowly started to move again.

'No, not yet. I still haven't found it.' Harold blinked the stars out of his eyes and swept over the area but still did not see anything.

'I can't see it. Just where did it…' A faint breeze. That was what made Harold to locate the spider and he opened his mouth and yelled just as the still world disappeared.

 "DODGE!"
