CHAPTER 16

SOPHIA'S POV

“I'll just get stuff that I am going to need. You can wait out here for me. I’ll be out quickly,” I said, stepping out of Garry’s car.

He nodded silently, his face unreadable, though I could tell he was on high alert. His presence outside the house made me feel a little safer. At least I knew that if he was still out there—lurking in the shadows, waiting for another opportunity—Garry would spot him before I did. And maybe this time, something could be done about it.

My hands felt cold as I reached for the doorknob, hesitating for a second before twisting it open. I took a deep breath and stepped inside. The house was eerily quiet. It always was, but tonight, the silence carried a weight that made my skin crawl.

I walked up the stairs, each step feeling heavier than the last. The moment I reached my bedroom, my heart clenched painfully. My eyes landed on my bed, and a sickening wave of nausea twisted my stomach.

Right there.
