CHAPTER 93

Three years had passed. It was strange how time could sweep everything up in its current and deposit it quietly into a new shore. Peaceful. Steady. Familiar. Things I once believed were impossible had slowly become my everyday reality.

The sun was soft that afternoon, filtering through the windows of the living room and casting golden patterns over the pale wooden floors. Carol and I had both just graduated. She had come over to celebrate, wine bottle in hand, wearing that broad smile I had grown to love over the years.

Life seemed... back to normal. That thought lingered sweetly as I leaned back on the couch, stretching out my legs and sighing in contentment.

The house was filled with laughter and the sound of little feet pattering across the floor.

"Elena! Dimitri!" Carol called, half-laughing, half-worried, as the two tiny whirlwinds darted into the room.
