Chapter 1: A Walking Anomaly

"Don't take this story seriously! It was never meant to have a plot or make sense—it's just for fun!"

"Huh? Where... am I?"

Maple blinked, her vision adjusting to a dimly lit alleyway. Just a moment ago, she had been in NewWorld Online, standing before a strange, swirling portal that had appeared out of nowhere during an event quest. Sally had warned her not to touch it, but curiosity—and Maple's usual habit of poking things that seemed interesting—had gotten the better of her.

Now, instead of the game's familiar interface and bright fantasy world, she was surrounded by towering stone buildings, the scent of freshly baked bread mixing with the faint metallic tang of something... unfamiliar. The air was heavy, charged in a way that made her instinctively alert, though not afraid.

She looked down at herself. Her beloved jet-black armor, Armor of the Black Rose, was still intact, its spiked limbs twitching ever so slightly as if sensing the environment. Her Loving Sacrifice shield was strapped to her arm, and when she checked her inventory—

It was still there.

Everything was still there.

"Whoa..." Maple murmured, tapping her gauntlet. "It's like I'm really inside the game!"

The realization hit her all at once. This wasn't NewWorld Online. This place felt too real—the warmth of the sun, the distant chatter of people, the slight ache in her legs from standing too long.

She was somewhere new. Somewhere real.

And judging by the way a passing merchant took one glance at her and promptly turned around as if seeing an armored demon was an everyday occurrence, she had no idea what kind of world she'd landed in.

The City of Orario

It didn't take long for Maple to wander into the open streets, and what she saw left her in awe.

A massive tower loomed in the distance, stretching so high that it seemed to pierce the clouds. The streets were bustling with adventurers clad in armor, merchants calling out their wares, and hooded figures who radiated a faint, almost divine presence. Every so often, she caught a glimpse of someone with animal ears or tails, their movements graceful and natural.

"Is this... a city full of NPCs? No, wait... Maybe this is an event town?"

Maple wasn't sure what to make of it. She had played fantasy games before, but this place felt different. Less structured. Less artificial.

She continued down the road, getting a few more confused glances. A few adventurers muttered to themselves when they saw her monstrous armor, and she even overheard a hushed, "What Familia is that from?"

"Familia?" Maple tilted her head. She had no idea what that meant, but it sounded important.

Just then, a sudden shout caught her attention.

"STOP, THIEF!"

Maple turned just in time to see a young girl sprinting through the streets, a loaf of bread clutched in her hands. Behind her, a burly shopkeeper gave chase, red-faced and huffing.

Maple blinked. Then, as if on instinct—

"[Cover Move]!"

With a burst of unnatural speed, she shot forward, her body moving faster than anyone expected. In an instant, she was in front of the fleeing girl.

"Eh?—" The girl yelped—

POOF!

Maple's armor activated Atrocity's effect, momentarily shifting into her monstrous, multi-limbed form. The girl skidded to a stop so hard she fell backward. The shopkeeper, seeing the armored monstrosity suddenly appear in front of him, let out a strangled yelp and nearly fainted on the spot.

"Oh! Sorry, sorry!" Maple deactivated the effect immediately, her armor shifting back to its normal state. "I didn't mean to scare you! I just—uh, well, you shouldn't steal, you know?"

The girl stared up at her, eyes wide. "You... you just turned into a monster!"

"I mean, kinda?" Maple scratched her cheek sheepishly. "It's just one of my skills! Oh, um, here—" She reached into her inventory and pulled out a random chunk of food—some meat skewers she had collected during an event. "If you're hungry, you can have these instead!"

The girl hesitated. Then, snatching the food from Maple's hand, she scurried away without another word.

"...Huh." Maple watched her go. "I guess she was really hungry."

A few adventurers who had witnessed the scene were now openly staring at her.

"That armor... those skills... is she some kind of high-level adventurer?"

"I've never seen a monster transformation like that. What the hell kind of magic was that?"

"Did she just summon food out of thin air??"

Maple, oblivious to their whispers, simply smiled to herself.

At least people here weren't attacking her on sight. That was a good start!

Meanwhile, in the Guild...

Inside a grand hall filled with books, maps, and clerks managing a constant stream of adventurers, a certain bespectacled half-elf sighed as she sorted through reports.

Eina Tulle was used to strange things happening in Orario, but today was particularly chaotic. Reports had been flying in about a mysterious armored adventurer who had appeared out of nowhere, displaying bizarre skills and abilities that didn't match any known magic.

"Someone who can transform into a monster mid-fight, summon food from thin air, and is completely unbothered by the crowd's reactions?" Eina muttered, rubbing her temples. "That sounds... unnatural."

"More like terrifying," one of her colleagues added. "Apparently, she blocked a pickpocket and scared an entire market district."

Eina sighed again. "Great. And where is she now?"

The clerk hesitated.

"...Heading this way."

As if on cue, the doors swung open—

"Hello~! Oh wow, is this a guild? I think I need some help!"

A black-armored girl with a bright smile and zero understanding of the chaos she was causing stepped inside.

Eina stared.

She had a very bad feeling about this.

Maple stood in the middle of the Guild hall, admiring the grand interior. High ceilings, massive bookshelves, and a bustling crowd of adventurers made the place feel like a fantasy game hub.

"Whoa~! This place is so fancy!" she said, her voice filled with excitement.

Around her, people turned to stare. Her Armor of the Black Rose armor, jet-black with ominous red accents, made her look like some kind of high-ranking adventurer—or worse, an elite Dungeon monster that had wandered into civilization.

Eina Tulle, the bespectacled Guild receptionist, took a deep breath and approached her. "Hello. My name is Eina Tulle, an advisor here at the Guild. How can I help you?"

"Oh, nice to meet you! I'm Maple!" she said cheerfully, her gauntleted hand waving excitedly.

"...Maple?" Eina repeated, unsure if she had misheard.

"Yup!"

Eina noted the girl's lack of any Familia emblem. That meant she was an unaffiliated adventurer, or worse—an unregistered anomaly wandering the streets of Orario. Given the reports of her terrifying transformation earlier, she needed to be questioned immediately.

"I see," Eina said, keeping her professional tone. "Miss Maple, are you a new adventurer?"

Maple tilted her head. "Um… I think so?"

"You think so?" Eina's brows twitched.

"Well, I was doing a quest, then I touched something weird, and poof! Now I'm here!"

A few adventurers who were eavesdropping muttered among themselves.

"Teleportation magic?"

"She doesn't look like she's from Orario."

"Wait, did she just say she appeared out of nowhere?"

Eina frowned. There were no known teleportation spells capable of transporting someone into Orario randomly. And what did she mean by quest?

"Where did you come from before arriving here?" Eina asked carefully.

"Hmm… well, it wasn't here, that's for sure!" Maple said, still smiling.

That told Eina nothing.

She decided to move on to a more pressing issue. "You don't seem to belong to a Familia. Are you here to register as an adventurer?"

Maple blinked. "Oh! Adventurer registration? That sounds fun!"

Eina let out a small sigh. At least she's cooperative…

She led Maple to a quieter part of the Guild, away from prying eyes. As she pulled out the registration forms, she glanced at the imposing armor.

"Miss Maple, before we proceed, could you remove your armor?"

"Oh! Sure, no problem!"

With a simple command, Maple unequipped her Armor of the Black Rose  armor, causing it to vanish into her inventory.

Eina's quill stopped mid-air.

The adventurers nearby who had been staring all froze.

The massive, horrifying suit of armor simply disappeared—no magic circle, no storage bag, no equipment change—just gone.

"…Did… did she just make her armor vanish?" someone whispered.

Eina kept her face composed. "That was… impressive. Is it a magic item?"

Maple nodded. "Uh-huh! I can store lots of things inside!"

She cheerfully tapped the air and summoned her shield, Loving Sacrifice. The massive, angelic shield appeared in her hands instantly.

More adventurers gasped.

"Did she just summon a divine-class shield?!"

"What is she?!"

Oblivious to the rising tension in the room, Maple happily continued her registration.

Once the paperwork was done, Maple was officially registered as an unaffiliated adventurer.

Normally, new adventurers were encouraged to join a Familia, but in Maple's case…

"Absolutely not."

Loki, the Goddess of the Loki Familia, had heard about Maple's existence within an hour of her Guild registration.

"An armored freak who can eat magic and transform into a monster? That's a headache waitin' to happen." Loki leaned back in her chair, staring at the report. "I ain't lettin' that thing anywhere near my kids."

"Loki…" Finn, her captain, sighed. "She doesn't seem dangerous—"

"Oh yeah? Tell that to the poor saps who saw her casually summon a divine-tier shield like it was nothin'," Loki shot back.

Meanwhile, Hestia had a completely different reaction.

"She sounds amazing!" the tiny goddess exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. "Maybe I should recruit her before anyone else does!"

Hephaestus, sitting across from her, gave her a deadpan look. "Are you sure? She might not be normal."

Hestia pouted. "Neither is Bell!"

That was a fair point.

Elsewhere, Ouranos sat within the Guild's deepest chamber, gazing at the reports.

"…An anomaly has entered Orario," he murmured.

Beside him, Fels adjusted their hood. "Should we intervene?"

"…Not yet."

For now, they would watch.

The next day, Maple eagerly entered the Dungeon, her excitement bubbling over.

"This is so cool!" she giggled, stepping into the first floor. "It's like a real game dungeon!"

Nearby adventurers glanced at her. Most assumed she was a clueless rookie who wouldn't last five minutes.

A trio of goblins emerged from the shadows, snarling.

"Oh! Monsters!" Maple's eyes lit up. "Let's see… I should try something fun!"

As the goblins lunged—

"[Cover Move]!"

Before anyone could react, Maple vanished and reappeared behind the goblins in an instant. The monsters skidded to a stop, confused—only for Maple to casually poke one with her finger.

CRACK!

The goblin's body imploded.

"…Huh?"

The remaining goblins panicked. They turned to run—

"[Atrocity]!"

POOF!

In an instant, Maple transformed into her monstrous form, spiked limbs twitching, glowing red eyes piercing through the dim light.

The goblins had no chance.

CHOMP.

The entire Dungeon floor went silent.

The adventurers who had been watching Maple assumed she was doomed against three goblins. Instead, they had just witnessed a nightmare unfold.

One adventurer muttered, "W-What in the name of the Gods…?"

Meanwhile, deep below the Dungeon, something shifted.

A force that had remained dormant for centuries stirred.

It had recognized an anomaly.

A being that should not exist.

The Dungeon WAS learning

---

The aftermath of Maple's first Dungeon dive spread like wildfire.

By the time she returned to the Guild, her Atrocity transformation and casual goblin consumption had already reached the upper ranks of Orario's adventurers.

Several advisors sat around a large conference table, expressions ranging from exasperation to outright horror.

"This… is a problem," muttered one advisor, rubbing her temples.

Eina, who had been assigned as Maple's advisor, sighed. "She's not dangerous—just… unconventional."

"Unconventional?!" Misha, another receptionist, exclaimed. "She turned into a giant monster and ate the Dungeon's creatures!"

"She also seems immune to magic and physical attacks," added another. "There were reports that a kobold managed to land a hit, and it… did nothing."

Royman, one of the higher-ranking Guild officials, grimaced. "We cannot allow this to continue unchecked. The Dungeon is reacting to her presence."

Eina tensed. "What do you mean?"

"The Dungeon has already begun modifying its floors."

The room fell silent.

That wasn't supposed to happen—at least, not so soon.

Deep beneath Orario, the Dungeon watched.

It had long existed as a self-sustaining force, an ecosystem designed to challenge adventurers, grow stronger, and maintain balance.

But Maple…

Maple had broken everything.

Normal adventurers fought, bled, and died.

She? She just stood there, invincible. Worse, she absorbed the Dungeon's creations—an act unheard of in its long existence.

The Dungeon could not allow this to continue.

And so, it began adapting.

On the lower floors, creatures stirred—monsters that had never been seen before. Traps altered their configurations. The very structure of the labyrinth started shifting.

This was no ordinary adventurer.

This was a threat.

The next day, Maple gleefully returned to the Dungeon, humming as she skipped down the stone corridors.

"Today, I'll go a bit deeper!"

Floor Two looked similar to the first—until Maple encountered her first new monster.

A large, armored lizard emerged from the shadows, its scales gleaming unnaturally. Unlike normal Dungeon creatures, this one's eyes studied her, as if analyzing her movements.

"Ohhh, a new enemy!" Maple clapped her hands. "Let's see what you can do!"

The lizard suddenly vanished.

Maple blinked. "Huh?"

Before she could react—

SLAM!

The creature reappeared above her, swinging its tail with enough force to shatter boulders.

BOOM!

Dust and debris exploded outward. Adventurers watching from a distance gasped.

"D-Did it work?"

As the dust settled, a figure stood in the center of the impact.

"…Eh?" Maple tilted her head, completely unharmed.

The lizard froze.

Then, she grinned.

"That was awesome!"

The lizard, realizing it had failed, immediately turned to flee.

Maple blinked again. "Aw, don't go! I haven't tried eating you yet!"

Before it could escape—

"[Cover Move]!"

She teleported in front of the lizard.

The creature panicked.

"Nom~!"

One bite.

That was all it took.

The lizard, a creature specifically created to counter her, was erased in an instant.

Maple beamed. "Mmm! It tastes kinda like chicken!"

The Dungeon screamed.

The Loki Familia, already keeping an eye on the growing anomaly, received the report soon after.

Finn read the message in silence before pinching the bridge of his nose.

"She ate the Dungeon's new countermeasure?"

Bete nearly choked. "Wait, you're joking, right? That was supposed to be an anti-cheat monster!"

Riveria sighed. "It seems the Dungeon underestimated her once again."

Loki, sitting with her feet kicked up, just laughed. "This is gettin' interestin'~."

Elsewhere, Hestia read the report and pumped her fist.

"Knew it! Maple's amazing!"

Meanwhile, Ouranos remained seated in his chamber, deep in thought.

"Fels."

The hooded mage appeared at his side. "Yes?"

"…Prepare for an audience."

Fels hesitated. "With whom?"

"…With her."

Ouranos needed to understand exactly what Maple was—before the Dungeon decided to escalate even further.

---

The Dungeon had never been angry before.

It had faced legendary heroes, gods in disguise, and even monsters of its own creation turning against it.

But never had it encountered something like her.

The lizard experiment had failed spectacularly. Instead of defeating Maple, it had become food.

The Dungeon refused to accept this.

It needed something stronger. Something Maple couldn't simply eat.

Something… unstoppable.

Deep within the Dungeon, in the shadows of the unexplored floors, something stirred.

A creature unlike anything before. Not born from the normal processes of monster regeneration, but forged by the Dungeon's will.

A Juggernaut… but worse.

The original Juggernaut was an executioner, a force meant to purge threats.

But this one…

This one was designed for a single purpose.

To counter Maple.

Its exoskeleton was layered with an anti-magic field. Its claws radiated the concept of absolute piercing, designed to ignore defense entirely.

And most terrifying of all—

It could not be devoured.

Maple skipped along, humming to herself.

Today had been fun! She'd met some new adventurers, traded snacks with them, and even found a cute little slime!

Now she was on Floor Five, eager to see what else the Dungeon had to offer.

And then… she felt it.

A pressure. A presence so overwhelming that even she noticed it.

From the far end of the corridor, the walls split open as something emerged.

It was massive. Bigger than anything she'd seen so far.

A sleek, black exoskeleton gleamed under the Dungeon's dim light, its elongated claws dragging against the ground.

Glowing red eyes locked onto Maple.

Then, without hesitation—

It moved.

Most monsters lunged. Some roared before attacking.

This thing?

It was instantaneous.

One moment, it was across the corridor.

The next—

BOOM!

Maple barely had time to register movement before something smashed into her torso.

For the first time since entering the Dungeon—

She felt impact.

Her body skidded backward, tearing through stone. Dust exploded outward as she crashed into the opposite wall, leaving a crater.

Adventurers watching from a distance froze.

Eina, observing from a scrying orb at the Guild, nearly dropped her tea.

"…Did… did Maple just get hit?"

Maple blinked.

Then she beamed.

"Oooooh! That was so cool!"

She leapt to her feet, completely unharmed.

The Juggernaut twitched.

It had attacked with full force.

Why was she fine?

Maple, on the other hand, was thrilled.

"No one's ever knocked me back like that before! Let's see if you can handle this—"

She raised her hand.

"[Hydra]!"

A massive storm of purple poison exploded outward, consuming the entire corridor.

The Dungeon reacted instantly.

The Juggernaut leapt vertically, flipping off the walls with inhuman speed. Poison splattered against the stone, melting it instantly.

But the monster? Untouched.

Maple gasped. "Woah! You dodged it?!"

The Juggernaut didn't answer.

Instead, it vanished again.

BOOM!

Before Maple could react, the Juggernaut reappeared behind her, claws flashing.

A dozen slashes in the blink of an eye—

CLANG-CLANG-CLANG-CLANG!

Sparks flew as its blades scraped against Maple's armor.

The attacks should have ignored defense.

But Maple's defense was beyond reason.

"What the—?!"

The Juggernaut leapt back, for the first time in its existence, experiencing something close to… confusion.

Nothing should have survived that.

Nothing should have withstood those attacks.

Yet this girl just stood there, completely fine.

Maple tilted her head.

"That tickled!"

The Juggernaut twitched.

Maple, ever excited, lunged forward.

"Okay! My turn!"

She activated [Cover Move], instantly teleporting in front of the Juggernaut.

The creature tried to dodge—

Too late.

"[Savagery]!"

Her body transformed.

Arms morphed into monstrous, clawed appendages. Her maw expanded, filled with rows of jagged teeth.

Then—

She pounced.

The Juggernaut reacted instinctively, swinging its claws.

But Maple was faster.

Her jaws snapped shut

CHOMP!

The Juggernaut screamed.

For the first time, the Dungeon's executioner felt fear.

A pulse surged through the Dungeon's walls.

A message.

A desperate command.

"Emergency Override—RETREAT! RETREAT! RETREA—"

Too late.

Maple's teeth sank into the Juggernaut's arm.

And then—

She bit down harder.

With an ear-splitting crunch, the Juggernaut's limb was torn off.

A monster designed to ignore defense.

A creature built to counter her existence.

And Maple just… ate it.

The Juggernaut shrieked, leaping backward, trying to escape—

Maple's eyes shone.

"Wait! That tasted amazing!"

She activated [Cover Move] again—teleporting directly onto its back.

The Juggernaut froze.

"…Hehe."

CHOMP!

The Guild advisors watching the battle fainted.

The Dungeon screamed in horror.

By the time Maple emerged from the Dungeon, humming happily, news had already spread.

She had eaten the strongest executioner the Dungeon had ever created.

The Loki Familia stared at the report in silence.

Finn: "…We're doomed."

Bete: "I—I think I'm in love."

Riveria: "…This shouldn't be possible."

Meanwhile, Ouranos sighed.

"Fels."

"Yes, Lord Ouranos?"

"…Summon her."

Fels hesitated. "Her?"

Ouranos nodded.

"I need to speak with Maple… before the Dungeon tries something even worse."

---

The Guild Hall was silent.

Not the normal kind of silence, where people paused between conversations.

No, this was the kind of silence that followed world-shaking news.

Eina, trembling, read the report again.

"Adventurer Maple has successfully slain the Dungeon's Juggernaut."

"Subject proceeded to consume said Juggernaut."

"Dungeon activity shows signs of severe agitation—an evolving threat response is expected."

The paper slipped from her hands.

"...We're doomed."

Orario's strongest gathered.

Loki Familia. Freya Familia. Ganesha Familia. Even Hephaestus and Takemikazuchi had sent representatives.

At the center of the table, Ouranos sat in silent contemplation.

Loki was the first to break.

"Alright, what the hell did you people bring into my city?!"

Hestia, arms crossed, huffed. "I didn't bring her in! She just showed up!"

Loki slammed the table. "She ate the Juggernaut! Do you have any idea what that means?!"

Finn cleared his throat. "It means the Dungeon will escalate further."

Mikoto, representing Takemikazuchi Familia, frowned. "The Dungeon treats threats accordingly. If it sees Maple as a predator, it will evolve to counter her."

"And that's exactly what worries me," Finn muttered. "If it creates something worse than a Juggernaut… Orario might not be able to handle it."

Silence.

Then, Freya chuckled. "I think you're all missing the point."

Everyone turned.

She smiled.

"That girl… is absolutely fascinating."

Maple, completely unaware of the crisis she'd caused, cheerfully strolled through Orario.

She'd gotten a bunch of new abilities from the Juggernaut!

[Executioner's Reflex] – Increased reaction speed and movement.

[Pierce-Proof] – Resistance to anti-defense attacks.

[Abyssal Hunger] – Ability to consume creatures with high magical resistance.

"Oooh~! That last one sounds delicious!"

Behind her, adventurers scattered in terror.

She smiled, unaware of the fear she spread.

Then—

A cloaked figure appeared before her.

"Lady Maple."

She blinked. "Oh! Hi!"

The figure gestured.

"Lord Ouranos wishes to speak with you."

Maple tilted her head. "Who?"

Silence.

Fels sighed.

"…Just follow me."

Maple sat across from Ouranos, happily swinging her legs.

The ancient god studied her.

"You are not from this world."

Maple nodded. "Nope!"

"You devour what cannot be devoured."

She beamed. "Yup! It's super tasty!"

"The Dungeon is adapting to you. If you continue, it may produce something even worse than the Juggernaut."

She tilted her head. "Ooooh. But that one was fun!"

Ouranos sighed deeply. "...Maple."

She blinked. "Yes?"

He chose his words carefully.

"Would you be willing to… not eat everything you fight?"

Maple gasped. "But why?!"

"Because if the Dungeon escalates again, it might threaten all of Orario."

She pondered. "Hmm… but what if it makes something really cool?"

Ouranos stared.

This child…

This creature

She wasn't a hero. She wasn't a villain.

She was…

A walking natural disaster.

"…Hestia."

The small goddess perked up.

"Take responsibility for your adventurer."

Hestia pouted. "Oh, now you want to shove her on me?"

"Yes."

"…Fine."

Maple clapped. "Yay! More Dungeon time!"

Everyone in the room shuddered.

The Dungeon trembled.

The Juggernaut was supposed to be its trump card.

It had failed.

Now, it had to create something new.

A being that would counter Maple entirely.

Deeper… deeper… something stirred.

The next nightmare was being born.
