1. THE RAIN AND THE SHADOWY FIGURES
The city remained bustling at night, neon lights flickering and reflecting on the rain-soaked streets. Xuan Xingli stood under the eaves of an old building, quietly observing the streaks of rainwater trickling down the glass. The downpour showed no signs of stopping, yet she was in no hurry.
In the distance, footsteps echoed. Faint but distinct—someone was approaching.
She didn't need to turn around to know who it was.
"You're still following me?" Her voice was calm, devoid of emotion.
Luo Chenxi chuckled softly. Her platinum hair was slightly damp from the rain, but she seemed unconcerned. "Can I not?"
Xuan Xingli didn't respond immediately. The wind swept past, causing her black-silver cloak to ripple. In the darkness, her ruby-red eyes gleamed with an icy sharpness.
"What is your purpose?" This time, her voice carried a slight edge.
Luo Chenxi tilted her head slightly, her deep violet eyes locking onto Xuan Xingli's. "Perhaps I just want to know—who you really are."
A simple question, yet it made Xuan Xingli tighten her grip slightly. Fragmented memories stirred within her mind, like shards of a broken mirror.
Who am I?
She couldn't remember.
2. A BRIEF CLASH
The atmosphere suddenly grew tense.
Luo Chenxi took a step forward. But the moment she moved, Xuan Xingli reacted instantly. In the blink of an eye, she dashed forward like a black lightning bolt, her crimson eyes cold and piercing, her fingers curled into a blade-like grip.
Yet, Luo Chenxi was gone.
A faint breeze brushed past her from behind. Before she could turn, a whisper drifted into her ear:
"You're fast, but not fast enough."
Xuan Xingli immediately retreated, re-establishing the distance between them. Luo Chenxi remained composed, her lips curled in a faint smile, though her eyes gleamed with undeniable intrigue.
"I have no intention of fighting you," Luo Chenxi said, stepping back into the shadows. "I simply wanted to test you."
"Test me?" Xuan Xingli frowned.
"Yes." Luo Chenxi nodded lightly. "To see... if you are the person I am searching for."
3. SHADOWS AND A WARNING
The night wind carried a biting chill. The city never slept, but in this secluded alley, only the two of them stood facing each other.
"What do you want?" Xuan Xingli repeated.
Luo Chenxi smiled, but this time, a hint of seriousness flickered in her eyes.
"A warning," she said slowly. "There are people searching for you. And they don't have good intentions."
"Who?" Xuan Xingli asked immediately.
"You'll find out soon enough." Luo Chenxi's voice was soft but firm. "Just... be careful. The darkness is approaching."
Xuan Xingli fell silent, a thoughtful glint in her ruby eyes. How much of this warning was truth, and how much was deception? Yet, she knew Luo Chenxi was not someone who spoke meaningless lies.
"And what about you?" she asked. "Whose side are you on?"
Luo Chenxi's smile turned enigmatic. "My side?" She shrugged. "Perhaps... my own."
The answer made Xuan Xingli frown. She disliked those without clear allegiances, yet at the same time, she couldn't deny that Luo Chenxi was an enigma worth paying attention to.
4. THE RAIN HAS NOT STOPPED
Luo Chenxi turned away, walking leisurely into the narrow alley. Just before vanishing into the shadows, she glanced back, her violet eyes gleaming with an unreadable light.
"We'll meet again soon, Xuan Xingli."
Her voice was light as the wind, yet it left a deep imprint in Xuan Xingli's mind.
Xuan Xingli stood still for a long while. The rain continued to fall, the cold droplets brushing against her skin, but they could not wash away the unease in her heart.
Who exactly was searching for her?
Why had Luo Chenxi appeared?
And had this game... truly begun?
She clenched her fist slightly. The rain fell endlessly, but within her, a quiet fire was beginning to burn.
The darkness might be drawing near, but she—
Would not retreat.
