Chapter 59 – The Fire That Won’t Burn Out

Alex didn't let her go.

Didn't even hesitate.

His lips moved against hers with a hunger that had been simmering beneath the surface for too long, a fire that had finally been given permission to burn.

Emma matched his intensity, her fingers gripping his shirt like she needed something to hold onto, something to ground her. But nothing could ground her now—not when every nerve in her body was lit up, not when Alex was kissing her like he had been waiting for this just as long as she had.

The desk dug into the back of her thighs as Alex deepened the kiss, his body pressing against hers, heat radiating between them.

He wasn't gentle.

And she didn't want him to be.

His hands slid down, gripping her waist, pulling her closer, and Emma exhaled sharply against his mouth.

"Damn," Alex murmured against her lips, his voice rough, breath uneven. "I knew this would be good."

Emma huffed a soft laugh, her heart pounding. "Cocky and right. What a nightmare."

Alex smirked, his hands still firm on her hips. "You're not complaining."

She wasn't.

She should be.

She should be pulling away, regaining control, reminding herself that this was Alex—her rival, her enemy, the man who had infuriated her since the moment they met.

But right now, none of that mattered.

Because his hands were still on her. His lips still hovered close enough to steal another kiss if he wanted to.

And she wanted him to.

Emma swallowed hard, trying to steady herself, trying to think through the fog of heat and adrenaline.

"We shouldn't do this," she murmured, but her voice lacked conviction.

Alex chuckled, his fingers tracing slow, lazy circles against her waist. "Then stop me."

She didn't.

Instead, she met his gaze, challenging. "Are you always this relentless?"

His smirk deepened. "Only when I really want something."

Emma's stomach flipped.

She should tell him this was a mistake.

She should tell him this was just a moment of weakness, that it wouldn't happen again.

But instead, she just… stared at him.

Because for the first time, she didn't know if she wanted it to stop.
