Chapter 41: The Hidden Skeletons
Crow walked through the bustling streets of the city, his thoughts consumed by the recent addition of the Abyssal Shadow Dragon. He was eager to test its power, but something had caught his attention earlier that day—a pet shop in a corner alley, old and overlooked, with a sign that read: "Exotic Pets & Unseen Potential".
Curiosity piqued, Crow stepped inside, immediately struck by the musty scent of the shop. The dim lighting barely illuminated the shelves stacked with ordinary beasts and creatures, most of which were common pets for those of low rank. There was nothing here that seemed of particular interest to him. However, as he passed by a dark corner at the back of the shop, something caught his eye—a faint shimmer that only his SSS-ranked Eye of Insight could detect.
---
The Weak Captured Skeleton
Tucked away in a small cage, almost hidden under a pile of rags and dust, was a skeleton. At first glance, it appeared nothing more than a mundane creature—just a regular skeleton with no flesh or vitality to speak of. However, with the Eye of Insight, Crow could see something different about it.
There was a faint glimmer of divine potential within its hollow eye sockets, something that made Crow's heart race with excitement.
"Divine potential…?" Crow muttered under his breath, stepping closer.
The skeleton, despite being a low-level creature, had untapped potential—divine potential that could be awakened through proper nurturing and taming. Its bones were thin, brittle, and fragile, and its aura was weak, but Crow could see it. This skeleton could evolve into something more than it seemed, maybe even become a divine undead.
---
Taming the Skeleton
Crow crouched down in front of the cage, focusing his Taming Aura on the skeleton. The creature shuddered as if sensing the power coming from Crow.
His Beast Tamer Mastery activated, but rather than taming a beast, it was binding a soul to the creature. He could feel the energy coursing through him as the Soul Chain Mastery allowed him to link with the skeleton, awakening its dormant potential.
"Tame," Crow whispered, using his command. A faint pulse of power surged through the skeleton's bones.
---
[You have successfully tamed a Skeleton (Divine Potential).]
[The Skeleton's ability has awakened: Necromantic Revive.]
Abilities:
Necromantic Revive: Revives dead creatures as undead skeletons bound to the tamer's will.
Undead Servitude: Can command the undead that it revives, though they are weaker than normal.
Soul Drain (Passive): Absorbs a small portion of the energy of any revived creature, increasing its power temporarily.
---
"Interesting," Crow murmured, his fingers gently brushing the skull. The skeleton now had the ability to revive the dead, a powerful necromantic ability that would be invaluable in battle.
But Crow didn't stop there. He turned to examine the next skeleton in the shop.
---
The Mythical Skeleton - Death Knight
In the farthest corner, partially obscured by shadows, Crow's sharp eyes once again caught sight of something that called to him. There, sitting in another cage, was a second skeleton. This one had a more menacing presence.
Unlike the first, this skeleton's bones were stronger—they seemed made of a darker material, and the skeleton's form appeared slightly more regal. The skull had a crown-like structure, its eye sockets glowed faintly with the same dark aura.
With his Eye of Insight, Crow saw that it had Mythical potential.
"Another one?" Crow whispered, stepping closer, intrigued.
This second skeleton was not as fragile as the first. It was an undead knight, a Death Knight of sorts, but again, with no skills of its own—only raw, untapped potential. Like the first skeleton, it was weak at the moment, but Crow could sense the potential for something far more terrifying once its abilities were unlocked.
Crow reached out and placed his hand on the cage, his mind connecting with the skeleton's latent power.
---
[You have successfully tamed a Skeleton (Mythical Potential).]
[The Skeleton's ability has awakened: Death Knight's Call.]
Abilities:
Death Knight's Call: Summons an army of low-level undead, though the summons are weaker than normal.
Undying Loyalty: The Death Knight will never betray its master, and its loyalty will increase as its power grows.
Soul Drain (Passive): Drains life force from enemies in close proximity, replenishing the Death Knight's strength.
---
Crow smiled as the Death Knight's Call ability was activated. This would make for an incredible ally once the skeleton had evolved.
---
Crow's New Summons
With both skeletons now tamed, Crow felt a rush of excitement. These new undead could serve as loyal minions, and their abilities would help him expand his army of undead. Crow understood the importance of growing them, nurturing their potential, and harnessing their abilities to further increase his power.
