Maya found Arjun by the old stone well, his hands braced against the edge, staring into the water below.
"Arjun," she said, approaching cautiously.
He didn't turn around. "You didn't have to come after me."
Maya swallowed hard. "Yes, I did."
A bitter chuckle escaped him. "Why? To explain how you and Aditya are suddenly so… close?" He finally turned, his gaze sharp. "Or did you already forget about everything before him?"
Maya stiffened. "It's not that simple."
Arjun let out a frustrated breath. "It is simple, Maya. You made your choice."
She hesitated. "I never meant to hurt you."
"Then maybe," he said, his voice tight, "you shouldn't have led me to believe there was something between us."
Maya's stomach twisted. She never thought of it that way, but… had she? Had she given him a reason to believe they could be more?
Before she could answer, Arjun stepped back. "We have six days left, Maya. Let's just focus on that."
And with that, he walked away, leaving Maya standing there, heart aching.
